  • Aside from the fact that peanuts are legumes, they also are often mouldy or rancid and riddled with pesticides. Farmers rotate cotton (most highly irradiated crops in NA) with peanuts to maintain nitrogen in the soil. If you slip up and do eat peanuts please always choose Organic :) or just enjoy some almond, macadamia,…
  • Every morning before breakfast. Weighing everyday helps me see what kind of water weight I'm carrying and gives me some information about general inflammation in my body. If my muscles are working hard to recover after a workout they will hold on to water...I know then to take it easy that day.
  • Watch out logging and eating exercise calories. I bought a HRM a while ago and realized that MFP OVERESTIMATED my calorie burn by an average of 50%. This could stall weight loss in someone looking to lose. I'd get a HRM to track your calorie burn and just input those numbers manually.
  • Toxins are not okay....even in moderation.
  • Just a thought....TVP is total junk. It's manufactured, processed food. You'd be better eating whole unprocessed foods :)
  • I'd try to up your carbs with starchy veggies like squash. It always works for me. Kelp noodles usually get things going too :)
  • This one looks good too! I have a strong hatred of bananas, does it taste banana'y' ?
  • Oh, one more thing, a few glasses of red wine a week is still paleo/primal :)
  • I disagree with some of the others. If you are new to healthy paleo eating and want to lose weight I think it's important to log/track your calories. Many paleo foods are highly caloric, and although they create a optimal insulin response in our bodies that favour fat burning rather than carb burning, if eaten in excess…
  • Try cutting out all processed foods. Cut out the whey protein powders (it's junk), limit fruit to one serving a day, increase your consumption of green leafy vegetables (you can cook them too to get more in) and lean meats. This may help.
  • I also don't do cheat days. Personally speaking, I feel like it would be a "cheat myself day". Refined foods, grains, mass produced meat are toxic to our bodies and I feel like planning to put that into my body is a bad idea. If I do need to "cheat" on my macro ratios I'll stick with Primal/Paleo indulgences like homemade…
  • I've found that 50-80g carbs works best for me with about 30g max sugars which makes room for about 20-30g of fibre.
  • Almond flour is much milder in flavour and makes AMAZING baked goods but watch out if you're trying to lose weight, it is HIGHLY caloric and very high in omega-6.
  • Not to be picky, but quinoa isn't paleo :)
  • Sushi will promote fat storage. It's white rice (high glycemic) mixed with sugar and dipped in refined salt (soy sauce). Ok for an occasional indulgence but NOT an everyday healthy choice. It will spike your insulin like nobody's business. If you go out to a sushi restaurant enjoy some nice sashimi instead :)

  • Whenever I feel that way I make myself a big batch of coconut flour pancakes :) Beats toast any day.
  • Why not give up grains entirely and go paleo? It's saved my life :)
  • Remember, Paleo isn't a weight loss plan. People will just often lose weight because they have a healthier diet and reduced inflammation from eliminating grains :)
  • Two thoughts. Perhaps you are at a healthy set point. Everyone's set point is different (not fair, I know) but if you're body doesn't want to loose despite your SIGNIFICANT efforts, it may be trying to tell you something worth listening to. Just an opinion. The other thought is to decrease your fats a bit and increase your…
  • I really like Make it Paleo but honestly, the best recipes come from the web (Fast Paleo is great!).
  • I agree with the high intensity intervals. Do them every other day and alternate them with days of strength training. Make sure you are really working hard. Investing in a HR monitor can help ensure you are working hard enough. Another suggestion would be to not use the weight machines. They only train one muscle at a…
  • It's ok! Halloween, thanksgiving, christmas ect aren't everyday and it's the everyday choices that make the difference. Just get rid of any extra candy in your house and start a new day!
  • Count everything! Veggie and especially fruit calories, sugar and carbs add up fast. While they are good for you they are not "free food". There is really no free food and if it is....it isn't real food :)
  • It could also be an IT band issue which is rather common when you increase your milage. The problem actually stems on the lateral sides of your thighs. The best suggestion I have is using a foam roller to "roll" your IT bands after running. It hurts like heck but saved my life! If you google IT bands and foam roller you…
  • Hi Ladies, I'm a registered midwife in Canada and council women on nutrition in pregnancy all day :) Many women are shocked to learn that you only need about 300 extra calories per day in pregnancy. Many women exceed this as we are often taught that we are eating for two! If however you are very active, exercise more than…
  • That's wonderful news! Are you in Canada or the US? I work in Ontario (used to work in Alberta) and the waiting lists in both places are horrendous. Glad you got in.

  • I joined this group 'cause I'm a registered midwife and thought I could lend some support. It's not uncommon for your belly to bloat and pop up to 6wks earlier than it did with a first pregnancy. You're body has a miraculous memory and is just very excited to start to "show". Just embrace it. It's totally normal.

  • I'm always STARVING when I wake up :) If you're feeling hungry on Paleo just add in some more fat to your diet.
  • Don't trust MFP for calorie calculations. I have a HRM an it tells me that MFP overestimates, sometimes doubling the number. If you're trying to lose weight this could seriously derail your plans :)
  • I make cauliflower sushi all the time and love it. Lots of folks out there skip the cauliflower all together and use mashed avocado, meat and a crunchy veg in a nori wrap too. Cool find!
