  • Check out marksdailyapple carb curve
  • Chicken drumsticks/legs, lamb chops, paleo muffins, kale chips, raw veggies, yams roasted or microwaved in coconut oil and spices.... So many delicious things
  • Much appreciated! I just had 2 huge lamb chops and a quarter of an acorn squash for dinner and my body is loving the extra fat and bit of paleo friendly carbs. I think the issue may be too few calories too. It's hard to shift from losing to just maintaining.
  • Have you read paleo diet for Athletes? I just pre-ordered it on IBooks. I'm curious about this too. I've been experimenting with eating carbs after a run for recovery and have noticed a difference but I am wondering about increasing carb intake before as well on days when I know I'll be out for longer than an hour. Let me…
  • I am pretty sure peanuts are off the list because they are a legume and contain phytates which promote inflammation. Potatoes are in the category of "grey zone". They are high on the GI index and can spike blood sugar. I have always enjoyed them when I do long runs and need a starch hit or am doing a carb re-feed. I would…
  • Why not ditch the bread and go Paleo :) Just sayin'
  • Congratulations on your new little bundle of joy and for BREASTFEEDING. I'm a Registered Midwife in Canada. I never recommend less than 1500 cals per day when breastfeeding. When you crash diet, either with diet or exercise or both your milk actually changes. The toxic load that you carry is released into your milk and…
  • How are you calculating your calories burned? HRM or with MFP calculations? MFP tends to overestimate by a HUGE amount. I'd get a HRM that you can swim with (45mins 3x wk is not hard training but is good baseline exercise, sorry but it's true). I'd eat back some of your exercise cals some days and try to get your net…
  • Genuine health makes a pretty good protein bar that's vegan but my two favourite are Vega Sport Chocolate Coconut and The Simply Bar (all flavours are amazing!). Good luck.
  • The fitbit is a great motivator to keep you moving through the day, especially if you're just starting out. I've noticed that the calorie burn on my HRM is significantly lower (sometimes 60-70%) than what MFP estimates so be careful eating back all your exercise calories if your goal is to loose weight.
  • I just got a Garmin 210. I also have a fit bit and was shocked to see how much I had been OVERESTIMATING my calorie burn. The fitbit is off by upwards of 60% at times. I'd recommend if you are trying to track calories in-out, get a HRM and adjust your diet accordingly. Hope this helps.
  • I had a similar experience in the fall. I gained 17lbs in 3 days (a lot on my 110lbs frame). I was so puffy I couldn't put my pants on over my knees. Give it time, drink lots of water, take a supplement of dandelion or nettle (natural and gentle diuretic) and wait about a week. It took me about 10 days to get back to…
  • I'm 5'4.5 and am anywhere between 110-112. When I get down to 110 it's usually when I'm running lots of miles. I do feel really lean and pretty great but sometimes find myself waking up hungry and eating at night. I haven't had a period in 5 years so I don't know if you'd want to use me as 'inspiration'. Not something I'm…
  • Ya, I did program it for lifelong athlete. I may swap it and see what the difference is. That being said, it may have to wait a week or so before I can work myself up to do that workout again!
  • I have a tendency to get really low and depressed when my carb levels get too low as well. I also have a hard time sleeping. I think there is a link between good carbs and serotonin levels.
  • Some people hold on to weight/inches in different areas. Give it some time. It will eventually get smaller.
  • I absolutely agree. Stevia is the way to go.
  • I'm somewhere between 90-140 with most days around 110. I run and do a lot of endurance cardio (I know...not primal or paleo but I love it!). I find if I eat less my muscles can't recover. I also eat mostly veggies with very little fruit.
  • Calories in vs calories out....that's the only way to get fat. If you're running lots you just need to take care of yourself, eat healthy food, rest and keep stress at a minimal. Cardio isn't bad and I've never seen a fat marathon or ultra-marathon runner in my life.
  • I agree. Where is the love, support and trust?
  • High five to you for all your efforts and bravery. I would agree with some of the other comments. I'd try decreasing your calories a bit (250-350/day) to bust through a plateau just until you see change and then up it again. For myself, weight training doesn't really do much to change my weight, long slow distance cardio…
  • I agree with most of the others. Eggs and a slice of whole grain toast or oatmeal with protein powder (or microwave egg whites into it...sounds gross but it makes VOLUMINOUS oatmeal.
  • I don't eat back my exercise calories much either. I have my baseline calorie goal set really low for my activity level and on days when I don't exercise I keep them in that range. On days when I am active I am much under that range so I figure I pretty much even out. I've been at the same weight for quite some time and…
  • 5' 4.5" 112 size 0-2 on the bottom xs on the top
  • Vega Sport hands down. Chocolate or Vanilla. So delicious and have supportive amino acids to help with digestion, absorption and assimilation.
  • I'm allergic to gluten, dairy, fish, seafood and fruit sugars (fructose) so it can be pretty hard to add things into my diet. I'm happy where I'm at. Don't need to lose, just maintain. I'll calculate my TDEE. Good suggestion. My BMI is 19. It used to be below 18 but somehow when I went off a medication last year I gained a…
  • Pregnancy can be such a tough time for women who struggle with body size, weight and image (basically all of us!). It's a strange time when our bodies become open to public opinion. Calorically, you only need about 300 extra calories a day when pregnant. Not much at all! The guidelines from WHO and both the Canadian…
  • I'd eat back half your calories or just eat to hunger. It may also help to increase veggie intake. I noticed you don't eat a lot of whole foods. If you cut out the wine and replace it with whole fresh food it will help you feel full and keep your energy up. Good luck!
  • I just got some online at miraclenoodles.com The shipment came within 48 hrs and they are amazing. They even have miracle rice!
  • Lamb is very healthy for you and in my opinion a healthier choice than beef. Just opt for leaner cuts such as leg and loin chops. Ground lamb makes great burgers however I usually mix it with some ground chicken or turkey breast to reduce the fat and calorie count. Rack of lamb is awesome too but should be enjoyed in…
