I use honey or maple syrup to sweeten my hot drinks. I find that artificial sweetners have a strange aftertaste.

It actually depends on frame size as well. A larger framed 5ft 3 person can get away with being 140 without looking overweight.....same as a muscular person. BMI charts don't apply to everyone, as they don't take into account: frame size, Ethnicity or muscle mass.

Yes this ^^^. I'd rather not go to the Pub (or wherever) at all, just to be sat there nursing a diet coke while watching other people getting "mashed up". No fun at all. Lol Get socialising in other ways,....maybe join a local Football/Netball team or something. (There are always ads in local papers wanting people). Maybe…

Yes, exactly. Lol This is one of the reasons i wouldn't want to lose too much weight or a lot more body fat. It's good to find a nice balance.
-
@rabbitjb Well this study (from the link below) showed that weight training can reduce visceral fat from certain areas of the body. More info here: http://www.precisionnutrition.com/visceral-fat-location
-
I'm thinking that it means due to our visceral fat increasing anyway, it is more apparent that older people will have more body fat. Maybe "acceptable" is the wrong word to use.
-
Funny you should post this, as i was thinking the very same thing the other day. I was speaking to one of my MFP Friends (who is 20 years younger than me) and we were comparing our Body Fat percentages. I done a bit of Googling and found this link: http://www.builtlean.com/2012/09/24/body-fat-percentage-men-women/…

Not sure how tall you are, but 157lbs sounds like a pretty low enough weight for a Male IMO. It's possible you could lose more weight, look skinny but still have the belly fat. I would start maintaining and do some weight lifting (a body Recomp). These threads will be more helpful:…

Same here! I don't really eat Nuts anymore because of this,...would rather eat something else more filling for the same cals. Peanut Butter on Toast is pretty filling for a quick snack.
-
How important is Nutrition? I now lift and have upped my Protein....but i do eat quite a lot of Processed Foods. Will this hinder any progress?
-
Thanks for the links. Some good food ideas and exercise regimes there. B)
-
Yes, this does make sense. It''ll be hard for me (as i love Cardio), but i know i'm going to have to cut down on it (and continue to lift) if i want to get stronger and build more muscle.
-
I see what you're saying....and i think i remember commenting on a post that you and arditarose posted your photo's on and said you both looked good. Sometimes it's not about getting to a low weight.... i used to think this too. ("Oh maybe i should lose another 10 lbs then i'll see my Abs"). No. I'd only end up looking…

I actually don't weigh every single thing i eat. For example, slices of packaged Bread that says "81 calories per slice"...i'm not bothering to weigh that. But most things i do weigh..... especially things like Meats, Rice, Pasta & Cereals.
-
Well, i'm only an inch taller than the OP (@ 5.4" and 128 lbs) and if i was at the lower end of the BMI chart i'd look Skeletal! The BMI chart is not a good indicator to what a healthy weight should be, as it doesn't account for frame size, muscle mass or ethnicity (which is a big factor). A BMI of 20 might look OK on…
-
That's very reasonable! You're at a healthy weight anyway, so losing will be more slower. It took me almost 3 months to lose 5lbs. I wouldn't advise you to eat less than 1200 cals though and remember, you can eat back at least 1/2 your exercise calories.
-
This^^^. And why does it have your "ideal weight" (as a 5ft 9 Male) starting at 9st 1???
-
Yesss! :)
-
I must admit, alcohol is the thing i found more easier to have less of. Now Pizza, Burgers or Chips (Fries), that's a different story. Lol I do have a few drinks when out socialising or when me and the other half go for a meal at a Restaurant.....but this is maybe a once or twice a month thing. As others have said, maybe…

Take measurements and occasionally take photo's too (in the same underwear or workout gear)....then you can compare them after a few weeks. Keep up the good work!
-
I'm on the path. At a decent weight, but need to build more muscle/lose fat (so Recomping, while lifting weights).
-
Yes, i suggest doing this ^^^, but with weights.
-
Yep, hate to admit it......but i was one of them. :/
-
Your Waist & Hips may be the last place you lose weight. With me, it's my Thighs & Bum. But you are losing weight and your clothes are looser, so well done!
-
$130 for a Protein shake??? They'd have to pay ME to drink it! Lol
-
Maybe you need to add more Carbs. I know when i tried to restrict my Carbs, i just ended up being hungry and tired.
-
If you don't mind me asking, what's your Stats?
-
Nope, never that. I do sometimes choose things to eat because they're easy to cook though! ;)
-
Every 2 weeks...Friday or Saturday morning. I'm maintaining , so feel i don't need to weigh myself too often.
-
I add Sweet Chilli Sauce to my Stir Fry's. I like the sweet/savoury combo.
