  • This. I tend to mindlessly drink if it's convenient. Also sometimes I don't realize I was thirsty until I take a sip and I'm like, oh that's so much better let me drink more! And with the not bothering to get up for a drink, whenever I do get up if my bottle or cup's more than half empty, I try to remember to refill it so…
  • Hi all, I'm a PhD student in Education (Research, Evaluation, Statistics, and Assessment) with a cognate in Adult Education, and I just finished my comprehensive exams last semester! I've had a lot of "life" happen since I started my program (my mom died, I got married, and my dad had two strokes so I moved home to take…
  • Are you wanting measurements for the actual numbers, or are you just wanting to see a difference as you lose? If you're just wanting to see the difference as you lose weight, you can use a ribbon or something like that (as long as it doesn't stretch), put it around your waist and whatever other parts you want to measure,…
  • Why would I eat ONE container of cottage cheese when I could have THREE oranges? All cottage cheese is is clotted milk basically, and you can't bite cottage cheese, plus it has "curds" which rhymes with "turds" and that's just gross, now isn't it? No really, that's what your logic sounds like.
  • This thread, and this workout in particular, are fantastic! I finally found a gym I was comfortable in and did a free trial, but the hours they're open ended up being way too inconsistent for the drive (about twenty minutes away) and the cost, so I've been trying to find something well-rounded I can do at home without a…
  • At my school, if you apply for and receive a graduate assistantship, you get a stipend, a tuition scholarship, and out-of-state fees are waived.
  • This. Also, I go for sherbet.
  • The special gluten-free stuff is so expensive and I don't really care for the taste . . . I definitely concur with going with naturally gluten free! One of my favorite sandwich-alternative lunches is rolling a couple of slices of turkey or ham or what-have-you around a cheese stick and eating it with a side of baked…
  • I have a Fitbit Flex. I chose it over the others available at the time because I don't have to remember to put it on and take it off all the time since it goes on my wrist and I can wear it in the shower. Sometimes I wear dresses that don't have a convenient place to clip a Zip or what have you, and I'm horribly forgetful.…
  • I just spent like a whole bunch of minutes watching this gif over and over again. You win the internets. All of them.
  • The MFP calorie goal works for me when I stick with it, but I'm bad about calculating my dinner up to the last calorie and then getting hungry for a snack later. So, I lowered my goal by a bit over 200 calories so that even if I meet my calories by dinner time, it's not horrible if I have a small snack later.
  • My ultimate goal is around 180 . . . I'm also 5'11", but I don't think I've weighed 180 pounds since before junior high. I'll be happy once I'm 240 or below; that's what's been on my driver's license since I first got them but I don't think it's ever been honest. I started out around 405, and I'm currently at 378 . . .…
  • I have a Fitbit Flex and it seems pretty accurate to me . . . if anything, it undercounts (I don't think so though) but I'd rather err on the side of caution anyway. I decided on it because I don't have to remember to put it on every day so I'm less likely to lose it.
  • I totally understand not being strong enough to go for the real thing yet! Which is why I don't make the real thing at home . . . if it's in the house, I will eat it all and then feel awful for it and end up eating more junk food to drown my sorrows. A lot of my cooking is kind of a compromise, too . . . For example, I…
  • I'm from Poplarville and go to USM in Hattiesburg! :flowerforyou:
  • In regards to your routine and working from home statement . . . I quickly learned I do not have the self-discipline to effectively work from home and rented a research carrel in the library. It's less than $100 a year, and if I schedule my time there just like a class, it's much more effective for me.
  • Old Navy or Just My Size both get rave reviews from me . . . Old Navy sizes tend to be a tad big and a tad long, and Just My Size isn't very consistent with their sizing (I have a pair of size 24 JMS that fits perfectly and a pair of size 26 that's tight), but once you find the right-fitting pair of either brand (and…
  • I use ground turkey to make tacos a lot. With the taco seasoning, the ground turkey is remarkably similar to ground beef in flavor and texture, more satisfying when I want traditional tacos than using chicken. Turkey sausage, Butterball in particular, is good for breakfast meat cravings. Ummm . . . Sara Lee 45 calorie…
  • I'm about to take my comprehensive exams toward my PhD in Educational Studies and Research (Research, Evaluation, Statistics, and Assessment); I'm in Mississippi :)
  • Other than his cereal that is eaten as often as a snack as for breakfast (Cinnamon Toast Crunch) and ice cream, my husband gets his snacks from the gas station as he wants them. I have a huge weakness for ice cream, so I keep fat free sherbet or Skinny Cow ice cream bars or sandwiches so I stay out of his ice cream. And…
  • When I overdo it on traditional southern food (I live in Mississippi, it happens more often than I'd like to admit), I drink water with lemon juice for a few days . . . besides fat and carbs, southern food tends to be heavy on the salt, too, and the lemon juice has mild diuretic properties to help with retaining fluid from…
  • I agree with this . . . I find I get a muffin top if I try to convince myself I've gone down a size when I'm not quite there. Bumping it up a size is much more comfortable and looks much better, too.
  • In addition to remembering that you are on a very strict 600-800 calorie a day diet, also keep in mind that, at that point and after, you have to make each and every one of those calories count. I've known people who have great results, but I've also known those who have serious malnutrition health issues because they…
  • I'm taller than you (5'10") but also wear size 12 or 13 shoes and have a large frame . . . I had the wrist measurement thing done at an overpriced weight loss center place in high school and confirmed . . . Anyway, you looking very proportionate and are rocking your broad shoulders. And as someone else said, even if you…
  • To be someone who said on another board this morning that he's not into the social aspect of MyFitnessPal and therefore looking for another calorie tracking site, you surely are going out of your way to comment on message boards and leave mean comments for other members. You claim other members have low intelligence yet…
  • I've never owned an Ikea mattress, but a quick Google search of reviews seems to indicate that the foam mattresses are awful but the regular mattresses aren't so bad. A few people say they got a pillow topper to go on top of it early on but the mattress and pillow topper combination has worked for like ten years. However,…
  • I think that, if approached well, it could actually be a good thing to have five-year-olds conscious of what they choose to eat . . . It can be an excellent opportunity to create dialogue about healthy food choices. For example, if they perceive a healthy food as unhealthy, that can be a great topic for conversation. As…
  • I absolutely cannot sit with my back to the entrance in a restaurant. I sort Skittles, Starburst, M&M's, Reese's Pieces, etc by color and eat one color at a time. With Skittles, I always eat purple first (grape is my second favorite flavor), then yellow (lemon is my least favorite), orange, green, and red last . . .…
  • What an *kitten*! If he constantly puts you down like that, I wouldn't give two ****s what he's like the rest of the time. Find someone who loves you for YOU!! I was well over 400 pounds when I met my husband, and when I decided I wanted to lose weight and become healthier, he told me he didn't really care how big or small…
  • Well yes, if they put it on TV, it must be true! Also if it's on the internet, it can't be a lie.
