  • Eat. Real. Food. Concentrate on plant-based, as-few-ingredients-as-possible foods. When you feed your body all kinds of essential nutrients not found in processed foods, your body will thank you. Weight will be lost. You will feel amazing. It's most likely, however, that your gallbladder will need to come out regardless.…
  • Change the things you have to eat in your house. Get rid of all the junk. Replace with plant-based foods. Frozen grapes are an AWESOME snack because you cannot pound them like a lot of stuff and they're filling. Cherry tomatoes, bananas, oranges, etc. I HATE eating celery but chop it up and mix it in with a 1/2C of vanilla…
  • When I started my journey last May, I never EVER thought I'd be achieving and maintaining a weight of 115 pounds! 44 and Size 4! The secret? Mostly plant-based diet. There are science errors in it but the basis is sound: watch "Forks Over Knives" on Netflix. Start there.
  • Netflix Instant Play → "Forks Over Knives"; "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead'; "Food, Inc." Those vids changed my life. I've lost 30 pounds (I'm only 5'2") and it'll stay off forever. I'm 44 and a Size 4. Eating right *does* take more effort but once you get in the groove, it's easy. Doesn't mean I don't eat bacon, pizza, and…
  • Seconded. :)
  • This. Prudent plant-based diet. Look at my diary. I eat (and drink fruit-veggie blends) all day long. You're starving yourself. I was in exactly your same boat 5 months ago. Having switched to mostly fruits and vegetables, pounds are *still* falling off, I feel great, and am eating more than ever.
  • Contrary to popularly held beliefs, fruits, nuts, & veggies contain plenty of protein, more than enough, in fact. Have a look-sy at my diary. The proof is in the pudding ... er, uh ... fruits & vegetables! (I've lost 25 pounds since joining MFP thanks in most part to completely changing what I choose eat. I eat more food…
  • Fruits & veggies, fruits & veggies, fruits & veggies. Oh, and more fruits and veggies.
  • Add some nuts: almonds, walnuts, macadamia nuts, etc. (peanuts are not a nut but a legume)
  • The reason for counting pickles is the sodium. Try to balance that out by making sure you're getting plenty of potassium
  • You can watch it on Netflix or on the Fat, Sick ... Web site.
  • I agree! I'm pretty much in the same place you are, trying to get to 110. I definitely have thigh and belly fat that needs to go. My kicker is that I'm more than 20 years older than you. That hasn't made a difference. With clean eating and exercise, the pounds have just shed. Re: veggies: Juicing is your answer. Watch…
  • Your diet is actually pretty good … except for the fact that you're completely sabotaging yourself with things like those 960-calorie DQ chocolate blizzards and an entire bar of chocolate. The thing I see you're missing in your nutrition is dark leafy greens: spinach, kale, collard greens, etc. Great way to get those is…
  • Don't think "diet." Think nutrition. What does your body *need.* This video 'splains it. Fruits, veggies, nuts, etc. See my diary. I have completely turned my life around because I changed how I think about food. I CAN be done and now it's just easy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KLjgBLwH3Wc
  • If you're gonna binge, do so on things like frozen grapes, frozen blueberries, sugar snap peas, cherry tomatoes. Eat as many whole raw foods as you can. Salad with every dinner. You'll end up being less hungry because you'll eat more and there not have any reason to binge. Good luck.
  • Like peanut butter as a dip? Mix a little bit of it with your favorite low-cal vanilla yogurt, just enough to get your peanut butter craving taken care of. Works really well with celery.
  • I suggest thinking raw, mostly fruits and vegetables. I'm 43, 5'2", 120 lb (started at 150, MFP at 140). I've walked (←that dog) 6-7×/week and cycled 3× week for the past 4 months. Bought Size 4 skinny jeans today. I'm seeing the cellulite melt away every night. Been on diets before with very little success. The difference…
  • Actually, 'twas my seriously deficient potassium intake that started me on a journey to very successful healthier diet, and by "diet" I mean the foods that my body needs, not caloric restriction! Just have a look at my food diary for today! Fruits, fruits, veggies, veggies, veggies! And lean chicken. And a bit of yogurt.…
  • "Balance Sodium with Potassium for Good Health" http://www.naturalnews.com/024539_potassium_sodium_diet.html
  • You should also be mindful of your potassium intake, which almost EVERYONE needs to increase! Concentrate on plant-based whole foods (coincidentally, nonprocessed) and you'll take care of both.
  • Starting: 149 (140 when I joined MFP in May) Current: 119 Goal: 110 Former Size 8 jeans were too tight (major muffin top). Now they'd fall off my hips. Size 6 is just a smidge too big but I can't find any yet that I don't hate. Purchased Girls Size 14/16 shorts today. ☺
  • "clean" = whole foods, plant based. Not subjective. Science. :)
  • Yes, huge difference. When I started MFP and was on a "diet" I was starving. When I noticed on the app on my phone that I had very little potassium in my diet, I started reading labels more than trying to get better nutrition. That equated to more fruits and vegetables. Within a couple of weeks, I was hitting on all…
  • Frozen fruits: grapes, blueberries, watermelon.
  • Start with something that you can have with you and ready at all times. I have two of these Thermoses. I drink green tea and diluted iced tea all day long, plus the cold water I drink first thing in the morning. http://www.thermos.com/products/vacuum-insulated-purple-flower-hydration-bottle.aspx This thing keeps hot hot…
  • My current favorite snack is sugar snap peas and mini sweet bell peppers. Very low calorie, very nutritious, no guilt.
  • I now eat to live, not live to eat!
  • Picture please! My guy is a "biggie iggy," 19 pounds of solid muscle. Lots and lots and lots of walkies. Did I mention walkies?
  • ←←←← Sammy. :)
  • Baby steps. Starting out is a little daunting when you know something needs to change but you don't know where to start. Many great suggestions here. What put me in the right frame of mind was using the app on my phone to examine overall nutrition. When I saw that I was getting almost NO potassium, for instance, I asked…
