I'm a late bloomer to running too...started when I was 37 (6 years ago). Since then I've run 5 /8 /10/ 16km races, 10 mille races and a half marathon. Welcome to MFP. Feel free to add me if you'd like.

Congrats on running the Chicago Marathon. You must be syked.

Just say to yourself: "I run therefore I am a runner". Because you are. Speed and endurance will come, but as long as you're out there, you are a runner. Keep at it and enjoy!

Bump for later referral.

For my last long race before my Half I ran 10 miles. Training schedule suggested 12 but thought best not to push it a week before the race.

Another vote for Hal!

Good Luck on your half! I completed my first HM about 3 weeks ago and all the words of wisdom spoken by the posters before me are true. Rest and hydration are important. Start out slow. Don't try anything new on race day...it could spell disaster. I find carb loading a day or two ahead is always good but nothing new. Most…

I get downright ansty during taper week. Feel like I should run and run and run some more to prepare for the Half or Full. But in retrospect, I am so glad that I followed my training plan, especially in the last (taper) week....it let me run a great Half. So do your taper, follow your training....there's a good reason…

Thanks guys. I really appreciate the info. I live in eastern Canada and the winters can be unpredictable. So I am going to take it as it comes, see how it goes. I will invest in the ice grippers and some good winter socks. I have it in the back of my mind to do a hypo half in Jan 2013 but like I said, i have never run…

I used Hal Higdon for my Half a couple of weeks ago. Best prep I found. And like others have said, you got to run 3-4 times a week building each time. Good Luck!

I'm new to the MYAC. Who and how do I report my data? And I'm in for 50 miles.

You can do it. A year is plenty of time. Just take Brian's advice and run.
