Start with small/low weight and slowly build up. I've been lifting for 4+ years now and I fell in love with it too. But growing and developing muscle is a slow process. Don't be discouraged if you don't see quick results like you do with cardio. Will send you a FR.

Feel free to add me. I am new to EM2WL but have been a MFP member for over 3 years.

Dotto to what everyone else said. Don't wait for him. You keep your schedule and he can join you when he can.

Sounds like you got it down pat. And you have the most important ingredient: the passion for running. Good luck!!

Both cardio and strength training are important. The combination of both give you the results you want. I do strength training twice a week (weights and body residence) and cardio the other 4-5 days. I am a runner and I found that since I seriously started strength training a year ago, my body had become smaller, tighter…

I work out in the AM, have been for the last 4 years and love it. I don't find that i am tired by lunch, but by 9pm its time for bed as I get up at 4:30am to get my workout in, walk my black Labrador and get ready for work @ 9am. Morning workouts are not for everyone, you have to do what works for you.

Hi Jordan. Welcome to MFP. Its a great place full of supportive, motivational and enouraging people. So glad you made the decision to join us. I've done 5 Halfs, numerous 10 mile races and various other distance races. Running is such a natural high. Makes one feel awesome especially when you accomplish a goal you've set…

Exactly, so when my mind says stop my mantra is usually "I got this, just a little bit more, I can do this".
-
Great job. Congrats.

For future reference.

Dec 30/13 Had surplus of 6 miles yesterday as I reached my 300 miles goal and then some. Today I ran 6.25 miles, so 6.25 miles + 6 miles (surplus from yesterday) = 12.25 miles for a total of 312.25 miles for December 2013 so far. Yeah!!
-
Dec 29th/13 Yeah!! I did it!! I needed 18 miles to complete my self-imposed 300 mile challenge for the month of Dec 2013 and this AM I rode my bike for 39km (or 24 miles). The feeling of accomplishment and knowing that I did it are great. Mmmm...now what? Repeat in January?!?
-
Dec 28th -- 5 mile run + 3 mile walk = 8 miles 26 miles - 8 miles = 18 miles to go. Almost there. Yeah!! 3 days left to get 18 miles in....do-able I think.
-
Dec 27th -- 23 miles (bike ride) + 3 miles (walk) = 26 miles 52 miles - 26 miles = 26 miles to go.
-
Dec 26/13 --- 3 miles walk + 9 miles run = 12 miles 64 miles - 12 miles = 52 miles left to go
-
Dec 24/13 5 mile run + 3 mile walk = 8 miles 72 miles - 8 miles = 64 miles
-
Dec 23/13 -- 5 mile run + 3 mile walk = 8 miles 80 miles - 8 miles = 72 miles to go.
-
Dec 22/13 --- 25 miles bike ride + 3 mile walk = 28 miles 108 miles - 28 miles = 80 miles left to go
-
Dec 21/13 = 11 mile run + 3 mile walk = 14 miles 122 miles - 14 miles = 108 miles remaining
-
Dec 20th/13 -- 125 miles left - 3 mile walk = 122 miles to go.
-
Dec 19/113 = 17 miles bike ride + 3 mile walk = 20 miles 145 miles - 20 miles = 125 miles to go.
