  • With my first, I dilated to a 1 for 2 weeks and went to a 2 1/4 and had bloody show. My water broke that night but I wasn't dilated any further. They did an epidural and pitosin. My second I got to a 3 before my water broke at 3:45 in the morning. My doula came up and diud everything she could to get me to start having…
  • Hi! My name is Shantra. I have an almost 3 year old girl named Alena and a four month old boy named Radley. My hope is to get back down to 145lbs, so I have 30 to lose yet. Weighing myself with one or both breasts full of milk is a tricky business aand sometimes I think the weight of milk increases with the age of…
  • Hello ladies, I am currently at 24 weeks with my 2nd. I am really struggling and need support, my friends aren't very active on here. I take my measurements weekly, because that is a beacon compared to my weight. I joined this site about 9 months after I had my first. While breastfeeding, I lost 12 more lbs and gained it…
  • I scald a half gallon of whole milk until it is 185 degrees F. then I let my milk cool in a cold water bath to 125 degrees F and then add about 1 cup of starter yogurt (my sister has recommended freezing some starter yogurt, I've not tried it from the frozen ones yet) to the whole thing and pour into pint jars. I usually…
  • I, personally, make my own yogurt. It turns out more delicate but, I can choose what I want in it and usually a nice spoonful of honey added to a cup of homemade yogurt with some fruit tastes just grand to me.
  • I just use the Yoga ones. The Element series is my favorite.
  • A fitbit is simiar to a pedometer, except it's more accurate and even counts how many flights of stairs you've climbed. You can check it out under the "tools" section of MFP. Also the website is www.fitbit.com.
  • That is exactly what I do. I put my average activity level to the lowest, so that any exercise is extra and not counted in. Thus I should eat those back. I've also found it motivating for me to exercise. The fit bit helps to determine what I burn on a typical no extra exercise day... or my lazy days as I call them. ;)
  • Mine was first, I got married and my lifestyle changed as I tried to fit in with his. And the second, was having a baby.
  • I don't think the sugar intake narrows it down. I think if you're getting your sugar from natural substances as opposed to high fructose corn syrup or granulated sugar, than I am sure you're good. As for protein: protein is what helps build and repair muscle (as does potassium) So if you work out a lot and use muscles you…
  • Also, I think you should ignore the people telling you to get a new profession... you are 6 months from having a baby, nobody should expect you to NOT be stressed! You chose the profession because you wanted to do that, right? Plus it's the end of the school year, your classroom kids are tired and impatient for summer to…

  • A few weeks ago I got really disgusted with my weight, again. So I vented on facebook and a friend sent me this article as a way to cheer me up http://blog.metaboliceffect.com/2012/02/15/hormonal-body-fat-signatures/ Due to the fact that I'm nursing, I can say that I probably have some hormonal imbalance, but the cool…

  • Low carbs is not bad, the lack of ANY carbs is bad. Carbohydrates are a macronutrient, the very first source of energy your body turns to when it needs to use energy. When you have a really active life, carbs are a necessity, but as some people have said, there are good carbs and bad carbs. My dad is always telling me to…

  • That's so sad! Little Debbie is amazing, but not for all time... although I did have ice cream for lunch today... But on a serious note, as far as the eating of 300-500 calories for breastfeeding mothers, I figure I do it without realizing it. When I nurse I'm actually more thirsty than hungry every time. Even during my…
  • Thank You!!! That's actually the type of encouragement I need!
  • Well, I'm 26 years old, and more active than before I got pregnant. I breastfeed, I fidget, and I still lost nothing. I ate healthy and everything. In the end, my attitude may be more the problem as I refuse to end up as my mom, overweight and unhappy. While it's not "impossible" to lose the pregnancy weight, I sure wish I…
  • Hi, I'm Shantra and I wear a 42DD. I had my little girl about 10 months ago and am still breastfeeding, but my breasts correspond to my weight loss, not by much, but still. So I wonder if, when I'm done breastfeeding in a couple months, my weight will go down easier due to lack of milk production. I am very glad there is a…

  • Hi, my name is Shantra, and I'm 26years old. My little girl is 10 months old and nursing 3 to 4 times a day. After giving birth I lost 10lbs. I exercised regularly 6 months after her birth and lost another 10lbs. After that no matter what I did, I couldn't lose weight. I changed diet - nothing. I changed exercises -…
  • I've heard a lot of mothers say that, but my doctor said people just use nursing as an excuse to eat more. You just need to replace what you are burning through nursing. Also, some women (like me, for example, and a few of my friends), do not lose weight naturally while nursing. Sometimes it takes until you are done…
  • Oh good, I'm not the only one then. My little girl is about 10 months old and will be weaned at 12 months. I read somewhere that nursing 1 oz =20 calories roughly (everyone is different in this area, of course, us ladies can't just make it simple). I figured she'd get 6 oz out in 20 minutes and did the math and added…
