  • Big thanks to everyone who recommended Bret Contreras. Apparently its called the glute-hamstring tie-in and bodybuilders like it and actively try to define both muscles whereas I think what myself and a lot of other women are after is a Jen Selter style booty that 'pops' out. Bret says to isolate butt exercises, like many…
  • Thanks everyone. Loads of butt knowledge for us to look into. X
  • I've kind of settled at 15kg on each end of the bar for some time now cos I can only do 3reps and don't have anyone with me to save me if I bail- psychological barrier. I do rowing and elliptical but could do more hill running for definite. Thanks for your ideas.
  • Off to Google those right away.I do the deadlifts where you start and finish with *kitten* pretty low, like a frog position so stiff legged could be the one to try tonight.
  • Exactly this. So annoying as pretty much all the jeans from fashionable brands for young people in shops in the UK at the moment are skinny jeans. I also daren't wear a skirt or shorts as my legs are also a chunky product of the pear shape so I'm inevitably left traipsing around shopping centres in a foul mood and settling…
  • I haven't taken a progress pic yet as its too soon. Maybe after a month or so. Have just measured and my waist has gained 2cm.
  • I'm your height and just a few lbs heavier and I started "lifting heavy" a fortnight ago. I just figured out through trial and error. This is what I'm doing at the moment (on a 20kg bar, dpon't know whetehr you include the bar or not when writing it down); Squat- 10kg each end for first set then up to 15kg each end…
  • 28.9% with scales 27% by doing the calculation One thing's for sure, 100% of that is located on my lower half :-p
  • Thanks for this. Really useful advice. I'm still about to set off on an evening run in a thunderstorm now though!
  • I'm pear shaped too (see profile pic). I can easily get flat abs with a couple of days of super healthy eating, quads are like rock from squatting and kettlebell but the saddlebags and just-under-the-butt fat will not shift! Being pear shaped has it's advantages though- many would love to have a flat stomach or toned…
  • 1/2 tin of tuna for me. Great pre or post workout too.
  • Heinz Soup (UK) Pea and Ham is 222cals for the who;le 400g tin. Very filling. It's not great on the sodium and sugars, as of most processed soups. But it is great for convenience if you lead a busy lifestyle. Home-made muesli, 1 cup of mix of oats and bran, add 1/2 chopped banana and a few sultanas or other dried fruit.…
  • Thanks for being so helpful! I've got my gym induction to be able to use the weight machines at my gym this week so it is definitely a route I want to go down. I've had several PM's from people concerned that I'm fine as I am and don't need to lose weight or fat, so thanks to you for understanding that even 'slim' people…
  • Height: 5ft 5in Weight: 133 lbs Age: 23 My stomach is flat but just a light layer of fat covering the muscle. Edit- just found a calculator, 27% body fat. I've just calculated my BMR at 1430 calories so I've upped my calorie target to 1600 as you suggested.
  • Thanks for replying, I'll give it a go. I was under the impression that cos I don't have a high starting weight it'd be harder to lose the lbs so I'd have to have quite a low calorie intake. False logic maybe.
