  • Try feeding 3 growing teens as healthy as you can!! Fresh fruit is always gone in my house before it goes bad, lol. I have to pick and choose what to purchase depending on seasonality and price. I'd love to have avocados and mangoes in the house all the time, but at a dollar for just one (!), I just can't do it. That bag…
  • I'm so glad you posted this thread. I'm looking for exactly the same thing for the same reasons! I'd never even heard of a heart rate monitor until a few months ago, and it's something I would really like to explore. So far it sounds like the Polar series is the one to get.
  • For the headache issue, is your breathing relatively regular during your cardio? I had headaches during cardio too, and the woman who heads up the class taught me controlled breathing. That seems to have fixed it! The squash can be found with the other winter vegetables. It will hold for a long time! It's much easier to…
  • I read something similar in regards to fat cells. Gosh, there is way too much information out there!! (good and bad!). It basically said that when an overweight person loses weight, the fat cells still have "memory", and when extra calories are introduced again, the cells grab onto and hold onto any excess they can. Not…
  • MFP totals are just a guideline. My protein totals go over even if I don't eat any actual "protein". It found in many foods. Also, try eating real foods, instead of the breakfast shakes and snack bars. Try real, filling foods. A raw veggie plate is very filling and low in calories!
  • It must be a man thing. I didn't get the slightest comment from mine during my weight loss... I practically had to drag it out of him. Now with the running, he wouldn't notice either, unless I pointed it out to him. I'm sure men and women see the world through completely different lenses!
  • I would say to stick with one calorie value, and keep using that one. Stay consistant. The different brands won't make that much of a differene... just a few calories one way or another.
  • Interesting study! My mother lost a significant amount of weight in the early 70's with the Weight Watchers program. Back then, the water theory wasn't established. There was no stipulation for drinking any amount of water. She and many others lost weight all the same. Crazy how far we've come! I just had a new…
  • According to the food database, one egg white is 17 calories, no fat. Just search egg whites, and you will find a number of options. I like to make my morning eggs with one whole egg, and two whites. Very filling!
  • The nutritionist broke my daily meals down as follows: Carbs 45-65% Protein 10-15% Fats 20-35% I'm also thinking the carbs are a bit high, and the protein is a bit low. I'm just not sure where to make changes :(
  • Sorry for being naive here! What is IIFYM ?? As for clean eating, I interpret it as being pretty much any food that is NOT processed. I feel so much better without fueling my body all the chemicals in processed foods :)
  • I love Matcha green tea! It's so good for you, and at least you aren't putting an unknown into your body :)
  • cleaneatingonline.com is an excellent site!
  • I had a consultation with a nutritionist, and at 1200 calories, she said I was starving myself! She recommended upping the calorie intake to about 1350-1400. HOWEVER, in doing so, she also strongly urged me to "eat clean", meaning no processed foods. While the weight is coming off slowly, I feel 100% better not fueling my…
  • Steel cut oats, cooked in milk, or almond milk. Add chopped apple towards the end of cooking, and a dash of cinnamon. Truly delicious!
  • My excuse used to be "I just hate to exercise". The solution is to keep trying different things until you find something you enjoy, and you will stick with it. I tried everything from gyms, to water aerobics, to the Curves system. I really hated it all. Then I was invited by a group of great gals to join a boxercise class.…
  • I caved, and tried out the green coffee tablets. Lots of brands to choose from, but the people at the health food store wouldn't recommend one over the other. I've been taking them one month... no change. Will not be spending money on that sort of thing again!
  • I'm relatively new here... I didn't even KNOW we could have friends on here! Ummm... how do I go about adding friends??
  • If you need something crunchy, try cutting up mini cucumbers into good bite sized pieces. Sprinkle with a tiny bit of salt if you like. Surprizingly filling, and sooo good for you!
