yes, i run. my strongest running has always been when i've incorporated lifting 2-3 times a week. maybe i wasn't clear, but what i meant was that most people that begin lifting will see what is known as "newbie gains" immediately, however the steady increase in strength tends to taper off at about a year. i completely…

i'm a big fan of 5/3/1, and there are many ways to modify the program to 2-3 days a week, and being beneficial to your running. don't worry too much about messing up your running, as the benefits will be very apparent in the beginning. as you progress in a year or so, you might notice your lifts aren't getting stronger…

start bulking when you are as thin as you'd like, but weaker than you'd like to be. cut when you are as strong as you'd like but fatter than you'd like to be.

did we just become best friends?!?!?!

very very true. a body builder and a iron man triathlete will train very very differently. it's all about your goals and what you want to accomplish.
-
you love food and beer?? sounds like you'd make a great triathlete.

pro-tip: when making salads, everything must be as dry as possible, so that the dressing sticks to the salad.

if you are planning on chopping the asparagus for salads, i recommend chopping or halving them before cooking them. Boil the water in a pan and then add the asparagus for just two minutes if you want them al dente, and then drain and rinse them in cold water to stop the cooking process.

i find that to get my heartrate up on the bike, i need to be going at a pretty good pace. Running is a different story. Even an easy run i'm in a low zone 4, however it recovers quickly.

Leslie Fightmaster yoga is very good

go full sleeves.
-
i have the vortex full sleeves. where do you live, and what race are you doing? you might be better off getting a long sleeved due to water temperature. i'm all about getting full sleeved wetsuits. the sleeves give you more buoyancy, and if a race is wetsuit legal, why short change yourself?

for swimming, at least once a month you should be doing a practice mile, even in the pool, to get used to the distance you'll be swimming for you 70.3. so about 2000 yards straight. maybe not at first though. work your way up. but you should be getting in at least one long set every other swim workout of 500 yards. also,…

i make a tray of muffins... http://www.budgetbytes.com/2011/03/morning-glory-muffins/ i want to say that they're a little less than 300 calories a piece. i know it's a lot, but it's really filling.

maybe start by cycling and using the elliptical for a while. they're easier on the joints, while building up some endurance.

welcome! i did my first 70.3 last year. i don't know what kind of race you're planning on doing (hilly or flat) but the thing that my training lacked was an emphasis on runs after my long bike. really needed to get in a couple of miles after my long rides, and i didn't. good luck.

i have an older 910xt triathlon set up. but i don't wear it all the time because it wasn't meant for that. i usually just put it on as i'm headed for a workout. but occasionally i forget my device, or the opportunity to train will present itself at a random moment, and i won't have the watch (i do however, keep a gym bag…

thanks... i was hoping not to have to spend $200+

not really necessary. i know a lot of people that have done a number or races without any computers other than their cell phones.

getting DOMS from an extra hard workout is one thing, but getting it regularly means you are doing something wrong. stretching and foam rolling are probably going to solve most of your symptoms, but look at the cause. if you are going 110% for the entirety of your workout, it might seem like the best way to improve, but…

seems like pretty typical aid stations. my first and only 70.3 had a bike aid station that you passed four times. it was a two loop bike course, such as yours. i loved it, as i didn't need to carry quite as much liquids on the bike as i might normally because i could always get more. however, biking through an aid station…

now this is going to be a very very hilly run.
