ouch. have you tried cherry juice? I'm on 'cherryactive' for my gout, and it does seem to be working - it's cheaper than 'proper' pills too! Dont know what brands are available in the US but could be worth a try?

almost completely equal right the way round the curve here, except musical which is about 1/2 the rest! (no surprise there, to anyone who's seen me dance or sing :) )

take my bike to the alps and ride **up** the damn things. Then do it again the next day.
-
amazing progress. you've lost so much round your middle!! keep going!

sounds like my wife who came to support me when I was doing a triathlon and bought her folding bike to dodge across the course to cheer me on in 2 different points. A bit of her route was on the main tri course and she overtook 2 people on TT bikes... *they* didnt think it was funny, she's still laughing now :D

as above, you're not allowed to ride in a group for the actual race, but group riding is a fantastic way to get better, you'll go further, faster, quicker than training alone if you can find a local friendly cycle club. As to riding in a group, this is quite a good guide:…

I get a mention yet? Didnt think so.. :( (ugly but rich and with a sense of humour, that's gotta count for somthing, right? )

thanks everyone! I do drink a lot of water - probably about 4 litres / day, more if i'm exercising, I just dont log it. My only other [non alcoholic...] drink is black coffee, and my morning cherry juice.

This is why I keep packs of Nuun and Berocca in the office. Nuun for the electrolytes, berocca for the vits. When I've downed them, I head out and get a bacon roll. then tea, lots of tea.

thanks all! to respond to a couple of points: the cherry juice is to help prevent gout - I had a couple of attacks in the last 12 months and the doctor said either pills or cherry juice.. It's working too, with no issues since I started. It tastes disgusting so I'd rather be without it, but it's worth it to avoid the pain!…

another vote for 'go for it' :) (but get some double sided pedals like SPDs or speed play, the Look / Time single sided pedals are a pain. Anyone tells you that double sided are only for mountain bikes, punch them hard in the face ( <- that's a joke!!)

All sounds too complicated to me... if you're actually racing (like ironman or a crit) then go for gels + electrolyte, but otherwise get a bento box for the front of your bike and fill it with wrapped up 1/2 sandwiches, and eat something every hour. Put a couple of high sugar candies in there just incase you need a boost,…

first big concert was Princes Act 2, at wembley stadium in london 1993. I met a **filthy** young lady who was my gf for about six months. and my last big gig was the same little purple fella on his 21 nights in london in 2007, with my wife - not the same person as 1993! awesome. But I need to go to more gigs.

I wish i had more spare time... i'm a rubbish triathlete, a too-heavy long distance cyclist, very sweaty hill-walker and wild camper, terrible gardner and, when I have the time, [very] amateur photographer. I dream of one day quitting the 6am -> 7pm job and being able to get slightly better at all of them! photographys the…

blondes for me please!! Form an orderly queue over there> yep, I'm that shallow. ( in reality - it would never make that much difference, but this is the Internet!)

great blog from the OP, really nice. I've been taking pictures for about 30 years, from building and running my own darkroom at school through to spending my entire annual bonus on a leica... Drives my wife crazy! I'd love to have the balls to jack in my horrid office job and take it up full time, but I think I need a bit…

great thread - top work!! but we got a winner quite early on.. I dont want to sound at all 'stalky', but goddamit you're gorgeous!!!

there's a pilot in our cycling club who takes a ritchey breakaway frame everywhere with him! I tried it, it's damn stiff (almost too stiff) but quick and light. the moulton is a fantastic bike (I had one) but PITA to re-assemble the brompton isn't a great ride if you're anything more than skinny I have a yellow dahon…

the 800 is a great toy, have been very happy with mine. Top tip would be to turn off auto-routing otherwise it tries to take you on all sorts of stupid routes, and gets very confused when you're doing a loop type ride! (but I dont completely trust it, especially in the wet, the 705 I had before let me down in a big way - I…
