  • Hi! I am still here. I don't check in very often as there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of interest. I continue to distance bike, doing usually 20 miles a day. I logged over 6300 miles in 2020. I bike as much as the weather permits through-out the entire year. Looking to log another 6000 miles in 2021.
  • Ok. In my attempt to try to make this site 'more active', here I am again. How are you fellow Wisconsinites adapting to the corona virus. Except for discontinuing visits to our local health club, my lifestyle has stayed relatively stable.
  • P.S. I am an avid biker. Any Wisconsin fitness folks can ask to 'friend' me on the regular MFP site. I am on that daily. My bike mileage goal for 2020 is 4500 miles. I don't quite understand how this 'blog' works as far as communicating with other members. I am not tech-savvy. If anyone has tried to 'chat' with me & I have…
  • I joined this 'chat site' a few years ago. There never seems to be much action on it. I am a member of the myfitnesspal site & an avid biker year around. Yup, even in the winter. I will try to check in here more often.
  • If you plan to ride this bike in the worst weather & under the worst conditions, I recommend getting something used and re-vamping it to fit your needs. I have an old Schwinn, standard nubby treaded tires that I adapted with clip-in pedals & aerobars to use as my 'crappy weather bike. I live in Wisconsin where winter puts…
  • Could you rent one to try it out? Some bike shops let the customer do a test drive. I'd want to see how it feels before I'd invest. I do my trail rides with just an old Schwinn with nubby tires. I put clip-in pedals on it and aero bars. (Looks interesting.) I use it in the winter on (hopefully) roads cleared of the snow.…
  • P.S. I am very happy for your new bike purchase. I know if I couldn't ride, I d be VERY cranky. Enjoy!!
  • Maybe keep your bike in your house?
  • Hi from Shawano. Labor Day is a big & busy weekend here. Spent the nice day (Sunday) out on Shawano Lake. Sweet. Since early May, I lost 40 lbs. Working on maintaining the loss by bicycling. (I do a lot of distance riding.)
  • I plan to start an aggressive 9-week weight loss plan on February 21st. right after I get home from a tropical vacation. Tanned fat looks better, but fat is still fat.
  • I live in Wisconsin and bike all year (as long as the roads are clear of ice.) I found that if I wear an unlined wind-breaker over a fleece (polar-tek-wicking type) base, I can bike in cold temps under 20 degrees. If I feel the need, I'll add a t-shirt under the polar tek. Make the layers roomy. Give your body space for…
  • I have been asked that question. I don't understand its relevance to biking. Do people ask runners if they bike? Some people bike because they can't run for a variety of physical or medical reasons. Does the asker want to hear all the medical jargon as to why one cannot run? I can relate to your frustration with the…
  • So, it's after January 1st, 2017. Anybody out there still interested in a challenge? Any suggestions? Weight loss? Fitness achievement? Biking miles / running miles? Hello.... "Is anybody out there....."
  • We all have more than one incident. While in a sprint triathlon, I transitioned to the biking segment, jumped on my bike and started out, only to discover that during the pre-race safety check, the inspectors had messed with my chain, and it fell off. I put it back on manually and continued the biking. Of course, during…
  • While biking in the city, my husband, who was following me on his bike did not notice I stopped for a stop sign and rode into me. We both tipped over onto our right sides into the street. He was shouting he thought, "He broke his leg". I helped him to the curb thankfully discovering he had not. While this was going on,…
  • Any form of exercise will not be "all things to all people." We differ individually. Some people will never be affected no matter how much they bike: others will be subject to osteoporosis merely by their genetic background. I would suggest supplementing bicycling with cross-training activities that challenge what biking…
  • I got back to biking after recovering from back surgery in early 2016. I was thrilled to log over 2800 miles for the year, which is close to my average. My goal for 2017 is to log 3500 miles. The weather has to cooperate. Right now, it's 8 below zero. No biking for me today.
  • My goal for September is to bike 500 miles. There's a biking event on the 24th I am registered for so I am training up for it. I hit 448 last month. Shouldn't be a problem.
  • Hiya jewel, Yeah a little too far for me, too. I'll be a permanent Shawano resident soon. But DO walk anyway, with or without a partner. It's ok to start slow. Do the best you can as you recover---And do it all for you. I'll watch for you on the site if you need a "cheerleader." I can emphasize with your situation. Go…
  • I've tried to initiate a little interest on occasion, but the responses are "lethargic"... I'm here if anybody is interested in health discussion, motivation, or just a Wisconsin friend.
  • Absolutely Dianna Ross and Lionel Richie (My generation)
  • Hi Passion, I share your "speechless" sentiments. I am usually the one who tries to initiate the chatter. My (brief) history is I had major back surgery a year ago. Through recovery and allowing my body time to heal, I gained weight. Now I am struggling to lose it. I commend you and congratulate you on your phenomenal…
  • Broccoli / cauliflower salad---the kind with bacon and shredded cheese in it. Most green vegetables are low-carb. Cottage cheese, nuts, egg salad, shrimp, tuna, any fish, using lettuce leaves as roll-ups. A variation would be to try to do "No sugar / No flour." A similar premise, but gives a person a little more variety in…
  • 7-layer salad or broccoli / cauliflower salad....the kind with bacon and shredded cheese in it.
  • Unsweetened Greek yogurt is a great source of protein, as well as non-fat cottage cheese. Tofu works, too.
  • I recently started "alternate day fasting" and on my low-calorie fast days, I found smoothies make great quick, easy low-cal meals. I also discovered unsweetened almond milk to use as an ingredient, along with unsweetened Greek yogurt. Almost any kind of fruit works. Grapes and pears are quite tasty. I've use carrots, raw…
  • I agree with "girl-stylin'" for the ride. I have a variety of 4 bikes I ride and helmets to match each one.
  • Hiya Meeple, nice to meet ya! What is PCOS? Hang tight and never give up! I also emphasize with your desire to get more fit. Double go Girl!!
  • Hello Jade, I emphasize with your getting your neck fixed. I had C5-C6 & C7 fused in 2006. I had so much less pain after the surgery. I wish you the best with it. Losing weight is always a great but challenging goal. Go girl!!
  • Ok, it's well into 2016. I am almost 2 weeks into my healthier (New Year's Resolution) lifestyle. I am trying alternate-day-fasting. It hasn't been too difficult. Anybody out in Wisconsin having some big, healthy fun?
