I once heard a running coach say "The key to running 5km in 30 mins not how often you run 5km, but for how long you run at a 30min 5km pace"

This site is specifically aimed at those with little time on their hands and no equipment. There are workouts for folks with no fitness right through to some really tough, intense workouts that would push the very fittest. http://www.oldschooltraining.com/ We do them in our office at lunch time.

I have not started lifting yet but when I asked about it on MFP I was given a link to Stronglifts 5x5. I found a lot of the materiel on his site to be very useful, especially the videos on proper form.

Reduce carbs? Drink more water?

There is too much going on inside your head. Meditation will help you clear your head and then you can decide from there what gets put back in. You want these thoughts out of your head? Meditate.

How many miles of blood vessels does a regular body have at regular weight? What volume of blood goes into those seven miles of blood vessels? Thanks,

This guy has a site, Facebook page and posts on YouTube, these workouts require little to no equipment and all take about 20 mins - if you are fit enough to last that long - they are super intense: http://www.youtube.com/user/oldschoolsimon http://www.oldschooltraining.co.uk/…

I focus more on my weekly target rather than daily target. It has been working so far. I have felt better about the approach since watching the BBC documentary "Eat, Fast and Live Longer" http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-19112549 (and I think you can watch it on YouTube.) The maker of the documentary became so convinced of…

This article is quite an in depth answer to your question but I found it very useful in helping me understand the amount of energy that was stored in the body and when and how the body needs nutrition. http://www.hammernutrition.com/hnt/1279/ Also, when the head of the Team GB Cycling team was asked on Radio Four what his…

I put milk and butter into my eggs to scramble them, maybe MFP does too. If you don't add anything to the raw egg, just log it as a raw egg.

The BBC show suggested the benefits included a reduced risk of age related diseases and also suggested that the sensation of feeling hungry triggered the brain to repair itself - again reducing the risk of age related deterioration in brain function. BBC Horizon: "Eat, Fast and Live Longer"

I find that "Swimming laps, freestyle, light/moderate effort" gives a reasonable estimate if the time I enter here is the time spent actually swimming the laps, ie if I do not count any time spent resting between laps. And by reasonable I mean close to the estimate on my Swimovate Poolmate
-
There is some evidence that a high protein intake can lead to an increased risk of age related diseases. An article I read suggested that for fully grown adults on maintenance protein should be 10%. I have seen someone else on here, on a weightlifting thread, comment that one needs to make a choice between building bulk…

When I enter my swimming as "Swimming laps, freestyle, moderate effort" the estimate agrees with the estimate on my swimpro watch. Have you entered your weight correctly?

^^^^ right there Also, will power, like most skills, will improve with practice. One good technique is to promise yourself some treat as soon as you have achieved some minor goal. Then keep pushing the promise of that treat out past the next minor goal. I know it sounds like it won't work since you know the trick you are…

"Gotten" grates to my UK ears but apparently is not always wrong. But "got" is often sloppy. http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Is_gotten_correct_grammar
-
"This is the last and final call..." Can it be the last call without being the final call? "They have got some great deals at..." How does the "got" add to the sentence? What changes if it is dropped? "French Champagne." Champagne is in France. There is no other type of Champagne.
-
What's wrong with that? I see a lot more mistakes where it should be at the start of a new sentence but isn't. "I like food so I eat it." Incorrect "I like food. So, I eat it." Correct.

In famine or poverty stricken countries they are not losing 5lbs a week on their 2500 calorie deficits either.

oops. Sorry. I had no idea. What do people in the US call the type of "tee hee" laughing one does when trying not to laugh out loud? surely not tittering?

^^^^agreed But I did work with a guy, senior to me, who got upset when I pointed out he didn't want to suggest our customers compliment their existing portfolio but rather would like to complement it. He argued so vocally, to the point it became a bad situation. I didn't want our firm's name on top of such a mistake but he…

I always assumed this came from people saying things like "Sorry, you are confusing me with someone who cares" etc and then would say "Sorry, do you really think I could care less?" which eventually became "I could care less." But just me guessing.

Whenever anyone tells me they are going to give 110% / 200% / 1,000% I simply state that won't be enough if they are up against someone willing to give 120% / 300% / 2,000%. It usually makes them think about it.

BBC Horizon did a show on this recently. It was very interesting and looked at fasts from eating only 50 calories per day for four days a month through to fasting every other day. In the end the guy who made the film went with eating only 500 to 60) calories in one meal two days a week. He didn't always have those two days…

If you are going to be that pedantic you can't say muscle replaces fat as muscle is attached to bones whereas fat is not. Of course if you speak like a normal human both phrases are perfectly understood.

I think you are right to simply keep evaluating. I first thought the target for me was too low (ie under 165, I am 5' 9") as the last time I was that weight was high school and I was then trying to gain weight for playing rugby. However, now I am 179 and I see that I still have a lot of fat still to lose. Also, when I was…
