Fabulous job, teammate!

I've found that it's a huge help never to let yourself get too hungry. If you eat 5 or 6 small meals - 1 small meal at least every 3 hours - you shouldn't get so hungry that you'll be overwhelmingly tempted. The food choices you make at each meal also can hurt or help you. I find that eating so that I don't get sugar highs…

Three things have helped me: 1) I read an article in The Atlantic that gave me the confidence that, despite all of my past failures, it could be done and taught me that sites like MFP are crucial; (2) I started paying attention to the glycemic load of the food I was eating. That meant to cut out processed white flours and…

Excellent post! Thanks for sharing.

I grew up fishing in northern Minnesota and northwest Ontario - pike and walleye. I can't truly relax unless I'm in the northwoods, though I confess I've gotten to the point that to me the fishing is just a side benefit of being in the wilderness.

You're very welcome! And, yes, I too avoided even close friends. I skipped a high school reunion a few years back, despite the fact that one of my very best friends flew across the country to be there and I was only 15 miles away. I attended this year's reunion in October!

I understand exactly what you are feeling. I've been overweight my entire adult life - my high was 335 lbs in approx. 1998, and have been bouncing between 285 and 300+ ever since. I was 306 lbs on May 14. I read an article about a week later in The Atlantic magazine that convinced me that, despite all of my past failures…

Simply spectacular job! I'm thrilled for and inspired by you!

I didn't see anyone suggest shirataki noodles. They make a fabulous stir-fry with your favorite stir-fry veggies and your favorite lean protein (I use chicken breasts) and are 0 calories (yes, you read that right) for a regular 7 oz package and only 40 calories if they have a little bit of tofu added to the noodles. Chelle…

emeals is the one I was looking for! Thanks much! I'll also try ziplist.com and any others that get mentioned. My two daughters need to lose weight, too, and my wife is very busy herself with work and grad school. I've been eating healthy, but we haven't been doing nearly as good a job as we should to ensure that the whole…

I truly had tears in my eyes as I read your story and your profile. I'm extremely happy for you! Congratulations! You've not only been extraordinarily successful at losing weight, but you seem to be genuinely beautiful person on the inside as well. Thanks for the great inspiration.

This is great advice! I'm Type 2 as well and was too depressed to really work at managing my blood sugars until I started this journey in May. My blood sugars are now looking good and stable and I hope to be off all meds soon. Very good advice pretty much throughout this thread. I definitely agree with the suggestions to…

Just joined. Thanks for the invite. (I've been trying to get accepted to a team on another site for a 49-day Holiday Challenge that begins Thanksgiving Eve, with no takers or invites. It's surprising how personal I've taken it! I'm going to have to toughen up, I guess.)

I think you may need to check the batteries in your sarcasm detection meter.

You're right. Crowd mob mentality is quite interesting.

I think I understand the OP's point. I think very few people can eat completely clean, but I don't think that she meant to yell at anyone who ever indulges in something. Whatever the OP meant, I will say that I worry about some of my MFP friends that carefully monitor their daily calories but whose diets consist almost…

Absolutely fantastic! You should be very proud. Keep going!

I lost 51 lbs. from May 14 to August 14. I've slowed down my weight loss pace since then, but am now down a total of 67 lbs. I'm planning to join a body transformation challenge on the Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle site that runs for 49 days from Thanksgiving Eve into early January (past New Years Day).

Congratulations! You've done a fantastic job!

You've done a fantastic job and your story is very inspiring. I did a great job over the summer but I'm finding my resolve slipping a bit. Your story is very inspirational and I intend to use it to make sure I stay firmly on track. Much thanks!

I'm definitely guilty of wanting to lose weight too fast and rush the process. And I understand completely the feeling of eating more than I should and then being tempted to use that "failure" as an excuse to quit completely. A huge help to me on this journey so far came from comments by other folks on this site and some…

:flowerforyou: I'm impressed with and encouraged by anyone who is working hard to lose weight. I understand how embarrassing it is to be overweight and be self conscious about it and am glad for anyone who is able to start improving their health and body. But as horribly self-conscious as I've been about my weight, I…

Here's a link to a popular version of 5x5, which I assume is the kind of thing you're reading about. It has a lot of information about proper technique, how to add weight to workouts, and what to do when you can't successfully lift any more weight. http://stronglifts.com/stronglifts-5x5-beginner-strength-training-program/…

To incrementally add weight you need barbells. They have 2 1/2 lb weights, 5 lb, 10 lb. 25 lb, and 45 lbs, added to a 45 lb olympic bar. You can use one 2 1/2 lb weight on each end to go up 5 lbs. For example, you might start with the 45 lb bar. The next time you would lift 50 lbs - the bar + one 2 1/2 lb weight on each…

I agree that natural sugar in fruits is not a problem, particularly if you eat it with protein. I generally try to eat a small piece of lean chicken breast with an apple or nectarine or other fruit, or a nonfat plain greek yogurt with blueberries or raspberries. The protein helps lower the glycemic load from the fruit, and…

Fantastic job! Congrats!

Great post!

Exactly right. I was extremely inactive for years and could not get myself motivated to exercise, despite telling myself often that I'd get started "soon." But when I committed to changing my lifestyle permanently in late May, I started walking briskly, then soon adding other forms of exercise. Now I love to exercise and…

Fantastic job! And very inspiring!

Eat some lean protein with the fruit - chicken breast, oatmeal, nonfat plain greek yogurt, etc., and you shouldn't get the sugar burst/crash. I also eat every 3 hours so I'm never too hungry.
