  • I went through menopause at the age of 41 and weighed 212 pounds at the time at 5'5". When I retired from the post office 4 years ago at the age of *almost* 55 and quit smoking, my weight went up to 238. I started working out 4 days a week -- 2 days cardio and strength training and 2 days water aerobics. I began focusing…
  • I'm 5'5" Starting weight/measurements: 238 lbs. 48 42 48 Current weight/measurements: 135 lbs. 37 1/2 30 38 Wish I could get that waist measurement down, but a lot of it is loose skin. I'd probably be 27 - 28 inches if it weren't for the "sag".

  • I've been alternating days of cardio/weight training with a warm water aerobics class and it really helps with the soreness. I go to the warm water aerobics class on M, W, F and do my cardio and weight training on T and Th. Working out in the warm water really helps to alleviate the sore muscles associated with the weight…
  • I normally have a light breakfast that's 50/50 protein and carbs before working out and then do the same thing afterwards. Then, I'm good until lunch. I'll also take a protein drink with me to the gym occasionally to drink for the extra protein and to stay hydrated while working out. Those help in rebuilding the muscle…
  • Sounds like the 2200 - 2400 from Livestrong includes your food calories AND your workout calories to maintain your weight. Similarly, I also work out for an hour 5 days a week and have found it takes 2400 - 2500 calories a day to maintain my goal weight of 138 -- even on the days that I don't do a structured workout. It…
  • I've never heard that it helps with weight loss, either. However, I take it because the medicine I'm on for my Lupus makes me VERY sun sensitive. Taking Vitamin D and calcium together will help with absorption in your body and both are needed to build strong bones. If you're peri-menopausal like me, you need all the help…
  • If they look that bad, they didn't follow the program which is geared to PROTEIN in the early stages after surgery, nor did they take their vitamin supplements as directed. People I know that have had the surgery look nothing like that because they followed the program to a "T" and look just as healthy as anyone else…
  • I lost a little over 100 pounds between December 2009 and November, 2010 and have been maintaining it for almost 2 years now. Feel free to add me if you'd like.
  • I count any drink that doesn't have caffeine as water intake -- crystal light, juices, caffeine-free diet soda, decaf tea, etc. Caffeine has a diuretic effect and can actually make you LOSE water.
  • I'm in Evansville. Where are you?
  • 58 here.
  • I'm 58 and maintaining a weight loss of over 100 pounds. I've kept it off almost 2 years now.
  • I take a Chike protein drink to the gym with me to drink during my workouts. It's something I've always done since I started my weight loss journey back in Dec. 2009, so I can't say whether I notice any difference or not. But I just feel better about it than taking a plain bottle of water or Crystal Light to hydrate with.
  • All these posts gave me a chuckle and made me somewhat glad that I don't go to a "regular" gym. I'm 58 years old and have COPD and had a silent heart attack in 2006. So my cardiologist and pulmonologist have me in a cardiac/pulmonary medically supervised exercise program two days a week. When I started it 3 years ago, I…
