Try allrecipes.com and skinnytaste.com. You couldn't go wrong with a Betty Crocker cookbook for learning basics. I got married when I was 27 and could hardly boil water (really!!), now I love to cook and bake. And you're right, it is a lot healthier...

I was on a high protein diet years ago and it did work. But I'm convinced the only way to lose weight and be healthy is to eat a balanced diet. So I'd forget the gimmicks and just learn to eat right!

had a home day care for 25 years and plan on opening one again. Love kids! Advice: 1) Put on some music or sing and march with the kids. It's fun and great exercise. The ones that are to little to march, will love the action. Take turns carrying the little ones and you'll burn even more calories! I sang "When Johnny Comes…

I would trust my doctor and he doesn't seem worried about it. You do burn more fat when you're working at your lower optimum heart rate so don't overdo and don't stress about it.

I feel the same way, Nikki. My legs are a lot smaller, just wish I would have taken measurements. But today I did notice what I think is the beginning of a waist! lol My dear aunt told me 40 years ago that I had "farmer arms" and unfortunately, I still do. I'm going to start doing some arm exercises and try to tone them up…

Grind the cornflakes in a blender or food processor. Add, garlic powder, black pepper, basil and oregano. I use boneless breast cut into strips. Dip in egg white (or water if you're vegan). Roll in cornflake mixture and bake 20 minutes.

Are you exercising? If so, you should be eating a large portion of your exercise calories.
-
Just bought an HRM - Polar ft4. They don't all calculate the calories so beware!

skinnytaste.com is my favorite recipe site. Doesn't give you menus but does give nutritional info and all the recipes I've tried have been great.

Make sure you eat 1200 calories and drink lots of water. You should also take your measurements because scales can be so fickle. Look into eating your exercise calories-it's so important!
-
Have you ever tried figuring the calories? I think moderation is staying at least close to maintenance calories for the day.

I suffered with Plantar Fascitis for ages. Finally went to the doctor and he told me to take two Aleve twice a day for 7 days. He said that was prescription strength. It stopped the inflammation and thus the pain. It would be worth a try as long as the Aleve doesn't bother your stomach.

Just google smoothie web - lots of recipes. Try a few than get creative, can't go wrong with fruit, yogurt, milk, flaxseed for extra fiber. Enjoy!

Since you can't go outside to exercise, get a few dvds to use in the house. Some libraries carry them, or try Netflix or just buy a couple. Once you start getting exercise calories, you'll be able to eat more and stay motivated!

You need to be comfortable if you intend to stick with the program. Are you eating your exercise calories? If you are eating at least half of them and are still hungry, I'd change it to 1 to 1 1/2 a week. Can't remember exactly how long you've been with MFP. You should probably stick with what they recommend for 2 or 3…

Oh, yeah. All the time!

Read the blog "How to Lose Weight Without Losing Your Mind". It's just what you need today. And keep venting and remember the scale is a very fickle thing!

Maybe you should ask Sarah Palin! Thanks for your post! I was having a crappy day and you made me laugh!!!

Betty Crocker Cookbook. So great for beginners! (Almost tells you how to boil water LOL) And also gives calories.

I mainly look at calories and just use common sense as far as food choices go. Everything in moderation makes the most sense. Not too many sweets, not too much sodium and of course lots of vegetables and fruits!

I just wouldn't add salt or at least cut it down by half. Rinse the beans very well and stir 1 or 2 tbs. of flour or cornstarch into the tomato sauce. I really think it would thicken up on it's own of you cooked it longer.

Homemade is usually healthier, but when there is a time crunch, I reach for a Smart One or a Lean Cuisine. Just remember, everything in moderation!

If your holiday season was like mine, it's easy to understand. We ate out a lot - restaurants or other peoples' houses. I tried to estimate the calories but I know I was never right on. Tried to fit in exercise, but not as much as I should have! Good news - tomorrow is not only a new day but a new year. Best wishes for a…

I'm having 1 1/2 eggs with a little cheddar on a slice of Sara Lee 45 cal. toast and some mandarin oranges. (Should be about 290 calories).

Welcome to MFP! I think you're in the right place! There is so much information available and you can spend as much or as little time as you want on the site. I've been a member for almost 3 months and have lost 15 pounds - not a lot but slow and steady. Friend me if you'd like. Best wishes!

I can see a difference and more important, I'm sure you can feel the difference! May you have a very successful 2011 - I'll look for an update next year!!!

I tried the Slim Fast a few years ago. I was always hungry and really don't think they're that healthy. I'd go with real foods. You can make a great fruit smoothie for breakfast with about 225 calories and I'm sure that would be a lot better for you.
