  • Maybe you need to make sure you are on a hard surface just like real scales?
  • My advice is don't go too psycho, do things you can maintain forever, don't majorly overhaul your life with unsustainable changes. Start at half to one pound a week, do exercise you can fit in with your life, when you can - even 1-2 times a week - one walk, one resistance exercise DVD. Hopefully you'll find you can find it…
  • Maybe you should plan your daggy exercise DVDs when he's not around like zumba or hip hop?
  • It puts the post in their "my topics" page so easy to find later :)
  • Hey there, If you want to win the challenge cut to a low salt diet the week before the weigh in. (follow the salt guide on MFP - don't go too low or you'll end up with seizures and cerebral oedema in ICU and maybe dying) you will lose a lot of water if you started out on a high salt diet. All you'll lose is water weight…
  • I try not to go "binge" drinking more than once a month and don't really bother with the one or two with dinner. I try and drink vodka (club) soda with a piece of lime or low carb beer. Keep counting it, don't lose track - you have to be honest with yourself there can be HEAPS of calories in your drinks. I make up for it…

  • It has less sugar if you get the right brand which helps with your MFP sugar totals but not really sure that would make any difference to anyone's weight loss. Also it has phyto estrogens which (haven't reviewed the evidence) should decrease your risk of heart disease (don't know how much you need or if it works for women…
  • Heh I'm not going to participate but I'm going to stand at the sidelines and watch!
  • Welcome! Good on you, you are saving your own life you know!
  • I tell everyone but think I'm overzealous about how awesome MFP is but I don't think many will use it. (I also hope I don't fail weight loss AGAIN and have people judge me for failing). I'd love it though if work got healthier and there were healthy snacks lying around everywhere instead of cakes and chips!
  • Hey from Brissy!
  • Heh yes I jump to call it useless - maybe what I mean is "not applicable to me and my situation right now". Mind you I hope to see that as my weight reduces slowly my instinctive behavior will also change from what is described in the 'obese/overweight' studies to the 'normal weight' type behaviors so it's good to learn…
  • I used tony ferguson (? australian brand) and celebrity slim for a while to kick start my weight loss but didn't stick to it properly once I started on MFP I just ate all the calories at the end of the day anyway - still lost the weight mind you. I find the soups (except tomato) and shakes both really tasty and I love the…
  • Eeek I promised myself I wouldn't post back on this topic but I think found where some of the "myth" comes from. [presuming random web page is accurately quoting the study!] http://www.possibility.com/wiki/index.php?title=EffectsOfSemiStarvation This is like a summary of the 1950s Minnesota experiments and results which I…
  • I tried to read the 3rd article but it makes my brain hurt. This is my summary: "We studied 2 day long low calorie diets but we did it in normal weight people who never diet so they wouldn't consciously avoid overeating after the calorie restriction ended. All we noticed was they eat more carbohydrates (but not calories)…
  • Aahh, back to some intellectual discussion. remind me never to go back to that "other" topic again, beginner mistake I guess! I shouldn't have used "inflammatory" language. Hah Pun based on further reading. I get the point about the previous article, I guess it doesn't matter if it's chicken or egg, if you have tummy fat,…
  • Actually I have heard about this study and it may well debunk the "starvation is bad" approach to the whole thing - someone mentioned it to me at work when I was spewing the starvation is bad stuff. How are you going keeping with the calorie restriction? I just don't think I could do it. Even if you do get to live longer…
  • Hell no! Just teasing love! It's free and it's a free world, so do as you like.
  • I think you are just "using" the site for it's calorie counting, and not embracing the true philosophy :p "I'm down with MFP yeah you know me" (picture white girl trying to look cool)
  • ;) I do but it gets a bit lonely up here sometime, I wonder why... (PS ultimately I do believe in do what works for you, but skipping meals is something I've never been able to do so MFP is working a treat for me!)
  • You know what, real MFP'ers (the ones who eat their exercise calories) Let them starve, let them weight cycle, let them burn muscle, let them release endogenous catecholamines and risk heart attacks. We should not care if they are silly enough to glean dietary meaning from 3 studies in tiny numbers of healthy weight male…
  • My 2c (no expert) The sugar goals here are very restrictive. Mine are all used up in milk and fruit. Some cereals are very high in sugar so you could try a lower sugar cereal. My rule if it's tasty enough to want to eat any time of day or night it's got too much sugar (think crunchy nut corn flakes, coco pops, fruit…
  • I love it! USE IT INSTEAD OF SOUR CREAM IN SOUPS AND ON MEXICAN!!!!!!!!! AND MIX IT WITH VANILLA PROTEIN POWDER TO MAKE CREAM FOR A TASTY DESSERT OR TO GO WITH FRUIT OR PUDDING!
  • I used to sleep through lunch so I never ate it. I like the other suggestion of looking at the clock and eating small meals every 6 hours (and maybe snacks every 3) while you're awake. By the way I feel I should add I was never really trying to lose weight when I was working night shift that's just the pattern I fell into,…
  • Hey there, Do you get to nap at all? What time are your breaks? I used to eat dinner before I went to work at say 6pm (my night shifts usually started around 8pm ) Then depending on how busy the night was maybe a sandwich or toast at around 11pm-midnight. Then 'breakfast' when I got home - 9am - without the caffeine!…
  • I like 'em confident. It can be just quietly assured of themselves or that look in their eyes that they know that you've just felt that attraction to them. *melt*
  • Hi, This is really lazy of me I'm not going to cook it, but I feel I should share it. It's the tastiest eggplant I've ever eaten - I tried it when traveling there.. I don't know if this is the exact dish but it comes up when you google "Georgian eggplant dish" - how many can there be?? I don't think it's too healthy if you…
  • Bump - for later reading, can't read it all in one hit! Phew! I'm really looking forward to the bit titled "a fat cell is more than just a bag of fat" LOL! But as to article one it's all very interesting but what does it mean? All the steroid hormones are fat soluble so what do lower plasma levels actually mean - is the…
  • Eat in the morning/evening when it's coolest, go somewhere air conditioned to eat - shopping centre, restaurant, eat a bar or protein shake at the gym after the work out, graze during the day rather than eat a full meal, and drink plenty of water or drink your calories - juice, milk shakes or even ice cream!!
