  • My profile pics say it all! That's "Odin" up there now, and before it was our sweetie pie "Hoochie". I love them both and honestly don't think I would have made the progress I've made with my weight loss without Odin. He's a GREAT walking partner and makes it a lot harder to slack off. If I don't get my walk, living with…
  • Count me in. Started MFP last month at 302 or so. I was 320 back in April, but I know that wasn't my heaviest. I haven't really set a goal weight yet, just hope to consistently continue to slim down. This is the first time I've really tried to do anything to address my weight issues and so far the progress has been steady.…

  • It's funny. I read this thread not 5 minutes after I'd read the one here: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/681528-unfriended-for-being-too-fat. I don't have many MP friends, but I didn't pay much attention to their tickers before deciding whether to send/accept a friend request. I guess for me, what's more important…
  • We have a 17 year old and the mall unsupervised was a no-no. In part because of the "unsupervised" part, but also because it's a mall and she ain't go no job to buy anything, so what's the point? The bookstore or a library or something like I would have been much more likely to say "yes" to. But, she's also the kind of kid…
  • That's a great way to look at - break down the larger task into more manageable smaller tasks.
  • We've got 1 and half pit mixes. Odin is a pit/chocolate lab mix and he's with us full time. Hoochie is a red-nose pit and she splits time with us and my Mom, hence the half. Love them both and have found them to be excellent walking partners, especially Odin. On the days when we don't get in a few miles of walking, his…

  • She is definitely on board! She has been eating healthy all her life, so she has no real use for a site like MFP. As a matter of fact, had I simply followed her advice 10 years ago (or at any point along the way), I wouldn't be in this mess. I'm super hard headed though, unfortunately. The good news is that as I've begun…
  • 1 - 1.5lbs per week is pretty good and most importantly, the consistency will pay off. I have been losing about 3 lbs per week. That may sound like a lot, but that's mostly because I've got so much to lose! I've also come to realize that weight loss doesn't tell the whole story. If you're not already, start taking…
  • Definitely start periodically taking measurements and not just focusing on the scale. That is especially true if workouts are a part of your regimen, since the muscle you will be building will weigh more than the fat you will be losing. I started at 320lbs back in April, and without telling anyone around me (except my doc…
  • How did the kale chips turn out? The more I hear about kale, the more I'm thinking I need to give it a more prominent role in our menu repertoire.
  • Odin and I try to get in between 3 and 5 miles of walking every day. Not only is he a great walking partner, but there's a noticeable difference in his behavior/obedience on the days we don't walk. That's definitely added incentive to make sure I get out there with him daily!

  • Thanks for starting this group! Red noses always make me smile, especially after a long, hard day at work or walking the trails. One of the reasons I decided "now" was the time was when I looked at our Hoochie and saw the problems aging and weight gain were beginning to cause her. She started her diet shortly before I did,…

  • Hi folks - Joined MFP a couple of weeks ago after I decided to get serious about dropping weight. I turned 39 this month and hoping to spend the next year gradually shedding so that by my 40th I'll be a changed man. As of today I'm at 293, but started my journey at 320 back in April. So far, I've been really lucky. I don't…
