My issues are not with vegetarians as I will try to accommodate them if I'm having dinner at my house for friends. My issue lies only with those that are hostile with me over my food choices. We should all be respectful of each others lifestyles. There was a time when I was having a discussion about opening up a dog rescue…

The scale can be a liar. Don't get frustrated. There can be a lot of reasons for it. The main cause is water retention. There are times that the scale doesn't move for 4 weeks, but then 4 or 5 pounds down the next week. If you started a new workout routine, it can stall weight loss, but not fat loss. Monthly pictures and…

This is entirely up to you & depends on your personality. I weigh myself everyday, but I like to see those fluctuations. I like figuring out that my muscles retain water to repair themselves & I weigh more. I like seeing that a high sodium day can affect the number on the scale. I don't get discouraged because I see a…

Like freelance said: EAT EAT EAT! If you are following MFP's recommendations for calories, then you want your net calories to equal 1500. If MFP says you have 1339 remaining calories, then you should eat them. Especially if you worked out that hard. You have to eat to fuel your workouts or you'll get burned out. Also, a…

Welcome! First thing is...don't over-think it. Eat at your calories while you are figuring everything else out along the way and then you can make adjustments. It really seems very complicated at first, but it gets simpler. Read through the forums & you will gain a wealth of knowledge. A great place to start are these…

I love that it's so easy to make restaurant choices because I can view the calories first. Be careful with homemade stuff in the database though. Everyone puts different ingredients in their food, so it's usually not accurate. I use the recipe function so that I can track everything that I put into my meals. You'd be…

BMI is an outdated method. It goes by height and weight but doesn't take into account the amount of muscle or body fat that you have. It's body fat that you want to lose, so I would only pay attention to the body fat percentage. Someone at the same height and weight as you with lots of muscle and very little body fat would…

Galaxy S3 all the way. I absolutely love my phone. After I got mine, my brother and mother switched to the S3 too. We are all very happy with them.

Definitely lift!! Lifting will build those muscles making your arms and back look much better while still reducing body fat from the front. Stay at a calorie deficit and get lots of protein. While you won't get big on a deficit, you will improve your strength and appearance.

Agreed. I don't log cleaning because I still did that while gaining weight, but if it's an unusual amount of cleaning I will. I mean like a SERIOUS spring cleaning where I spend most of the day doing it. However, the calories burned are way overestimated, so I would log it for a quarter or half of the time actually spent…

I think NOT eating bacon would be the reason for my demise.

Looks like you are on the right track, but in a lot of cases 1200 is actually too low. Hard to tell without more information like your height & weight. When I started, I went by MFP's number and I thought it was okay because I'd always heard to lose weight, 1200 is the way to go. I was starving and I wasn't properly…

I eat Lean Cuisine regularly for lunch. It's quick & easy which is perfect for someone lazy like me. I like to get as much sleep as possible in the morning, so I'd rather sleep for 5 more minutes than pack a lunch. Sodium is high in them, but I have no issues with that. I'm still usually way under my sodium at the end of…

I recently went through the same thing. Flu with vomiting and couldn't keep anything down. Uggghhh...worst feeling ever. Please give your body time to recover. Even though the vomiting has stopped, your body is still weak from lack of nutrition and trying to fight off the illness. I would wait until a few days of eating…

The #1 tip is to just wait and be patient. Keep doing what you're doing. 2 weeks isn't really a plateau since weight loss isn't linear. Any time I start a new lifting routine, I stay at the same weight for about 4 weeks and then BOOM...3 or 4 pounds down.
-
I would take another day to rest. I do strength training 3 times a week, sometimes 4. Building muscle doesn't happen while you are lifting, it happens during rest & recovery when the muscles are repairing themselves. Most of the time I'll take an active recovery day where I will take a walk, light jog or some other type of…

Haha! The scale is like that mean friend that will be supportive one day and then it turns its back on you and talks trash.

I weigh myself everyday, but I don't take much stock in the numbers. I can fluctuate between 1-3 pounds from day to day, but I pay more attention to the trends. I do it everyday because I like to see the changes in my body & it's made me learn important things like a very high sodium day will make me retain water & I weigh…

This one makes 4 burgers and is my favorite: 1 lb ground turkey 2 eggs 1 cup italian seasoned breadcrumbs (more if mixture still feels too wet) 1 tsp onion powder 1/2 tsp salt-free garlic & herb seasoning 1/2 tsp ground mustard 1 tsp salt 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper 1/2 tsp black pepper

It's not just my hands & feet that are affected. My entire body is FREEZING after a hard (cardio) workout. I've tried taking super hot showers immediately after the workout, layering clothing, sitting in front of a heater, but nothing seems to work for me. Usually lasts about 2-3 hours. It's almost like when I'm…

I'm a big fan of Jefit and also Skimble's Workout Trainer.

When logging your exercise, you can go under Cardiovascular and search for Strength Training. It will show calorie burn from there. However, MFP is known to overestimate calorie burn. If you are eating back your exercise calories, I wouldn't eat those calories back since it's not as big of an amount as a usual cardio burn.…

Don't give up!!! It's easy to get obsessed with that number on the scale, but in all honestly, it's better to lower your body fat percentage than to lose weight. I've noticed that when I start a new exercise program, I don't see weight loss for about 4 weeks. Especially with any program that's stressing your muscles. You…

If it was just the sniffles, I'd say go for it. However, if it's in your lungs, I wouldn't exercise. Take a break & rest up. Your body is trying to fight the illness, so let it do its thing.

I've never put any faith in the number, but I do love seeing it go down. It really does keep me motivated. When it said in 5 weeks I'd be in the 160's, I just laughed it off. Then after losing some weight & seeing that number go down to the 150's, I was super excited. When it started saying 140's, I did a happy dance. I…

As others have said, it's water weight. Also, the weight generally drops off quickly at first. Even more so with people that have a lot to lose. Many people have seen a 20 pound loss in the first month, but it does slow down. Don't get discouraged if that happens. The closer you get to your goal, the harder it is to lose.
-
I don't log my vitamins, yellow mustard, water or spices. I also don't log strength training, but I do log cardio because I eat back some of the calories. On occasion, I would forget to log olive oil or butter used in cooking, but I'm much better about that now.

OP, this is AWESOME! I just love hearing stories like this. Congratulations on both your willpower and the fact that you got to go to France. Lucky you! I'm also one that could eat a lot in one sitting. I could eat an entire large pizza. I'm really surprised that I didn't weigh more than I did! With the help of MFP, I've…

Like she said, you can't spot reduce. I hated my sad belly button, but I'm turning that frown upside down. I'm noticing a difference now and I'm about 20 pounds down. I'm mostly lifting with only a 1 hour cardio session once a week. It will take some time, but no worries, you'll get there.

^Same for me. My weight loss has slowed down a lot, but I'm not at all worried about it. While doing strictly cardio, I lost weight, but my clothes didn't fit any better. When I started lifting, my weight loss just about stalled, but the inches are coming off. I need a belt for my tightest pair of jeans now and I LOVE IT!…
