  • I do JUDDD and I like it. I lost 20 pounds last summer and fall and then moved to eating at a general deficit over the holidays. Even though I was eating at my TDEE-20%, I was gaining. I kept reducing my calories but I was still gaining (or maintaining) even right above my BMR, so I've now come back over to JUDDD after…
  • Enell, Enell, Enell! Save up the money and buy one, you will not regret it! My girls go nowhere in that thing and the hook and eye closures make sure that nothing is stretching out. I recently shrank out of my first one and my hubby bought me the next size down for Christmas.
  • I lost my first 20 pounds doing IF and only recently transitioned to a general calorie counting diet. I liked IF and it was a good fit for me during the time I used it. I never felt deprived, which was really important to me in the first few months. I was a bit more tired on my low cal days (I used the JUDDDD method, so…
  • The typical rule, as I've discovered it, is that 2 oz of dry pasta equals a cup. Usually, on the boxes I buy, 2 oz dry is listed as a serving size so that's generally what I go with.
  • If I've had time to plan for it in my daily calorie allotment, I get a small popcorn (no butter) and a diet coke. If not, I usually go get a little pack of sour patch kids and sneak them in and then buy a diet coke at the theater.
  • I tend to be of the opinion that the first 6 weeks after birth you shouldn't worry about what you eat. You have a new baby to adjust to, your body is trying to recover from a major change, your hormones are whack, you are burning crazy calories ramping up milk production, you are sleep deprived, etc etc etc. The first 6…
  • Isn't the pooch just skin? Mine is filled out with fat right now, but it is obvious that unless there is significant skin tightening as I lose weight (which I don't think will happen as my only c/s was with my first baby, who is now almost 8) it'll still be there, just deflated. Once I hit my goal, I'm pretty sure I'll…
  • I started with C25K but eventually switched to using Run Keeper (app) for my outdoor runs. It gives you your pace and distance and I just try to up what I do each time I go out/weekly/whatever I've decided for that day/week. I'm running more on the treadmill now since it is cold and I up my time running each week. So,…
  • An Amy's Indian Samosa Wrap. I was in a hurry and had to grab something easy from the freezer on the way out the door.
  • I picked the only gym in town with a kids' room for this very reason. If I had to wait to go until my schedule sync'd with my husband's, I'd never get there. The DVDs and such are good suggestions, but I know, FOR ME, they wouldn't work. Part of the reason I went to the gym early in this journey is because I was paying for…
  • Totally normal. Your weight fluxes during the day due to water retention and the stuff you eat that's in your stomach. In the morning, especially after you use the bathroom first thing, your tummy and bladder are totally empty.
  • Calculate your BMR and TDEE. I am able to eat about 1550 cals a day and still lose at a good pace. I exercise 4 times a week and typically don't eat my calories back, although if I'm particularly hungry I will eat some of them back.
  • That article basically said "Not true (for some women)! Not true (for some women)!" I'm not in health care but I did nurse all my kids for at least a year and I did need the extra calories and lots of fluids or my milk supply tanked. That doesn't mean yours will, but it is a lot easier to kill a milk supply than to bring…
  • My "hip hop and pop power workout" station played so many ballads that I had to abandon it. And I love Florence & the Machine, but she's not all that great to run to! Naturally, I almost never hear her on the Adult Hits station when I'm cleaning the house and she'd be more appreciated.
  • I have a multipurpose steamer; it'll do rice and veggies. I steam tons of veggies. In fact, I steamed some baby carrots last week and ate almost all of them myself! They were really yummy. I've also steamed green beans, broccoli, asparagus, and cauliflower. So, for us, it was totally worth it.
  • I know the general rule is 500 extra calories a day, but I'm not sure that there is a setting for nursing moms on MFP.
  • I taught high school for years at an inner city school and my answer is NO. You never know when A) the teacher might snap or B) when one of the students might get hold of the gun (student of any age). It is just a bad idea.
  • Check out this site for a calculator: http://www.johnsonupdaydowndaydiet.com/html/how-to-do-the-diet.html That is the plan I use. I alternate with 500 and 2000 calories and exercise as normal. I don't eat my exercise calories back. I think yesterday, after my workout on a down day, my net calories were something like 15.…
  • I would just order them both (if you can afford it) and then return the one that doesn't fit as well. I wear and Enell and SWEAR by it. I bought it when I was nursing my youngest and it was worth every penny.
  • I do that (I use the JUDDDD method). I like it and am losing at a nice steady pace, typically 1-1.5 pounds/week. The biggest thing, for me, is that I don't feel deprived at all. That was the nail in the coffin with me for WW, and ultimately why I failed with that.
  • Many women can't breastfeed their children after a reduction, so keep that in mind. Some women can partially nurse, but if you think nursing your babies is something that'll be important to you in the future, just wait until you're all done with kids. I tossed the idea of a reduction around when I was in my late teens, but…
  • The town I live in doesn't have any gym facilites with child care, so that limits me to working out only 3-4 days a week. One of those days is usually road running after the kids have gone to bed, but the others are cardio (treadmill) and weights at the gym.
  • Enell, hands down. Nothing has ever given me the ability to run (and not hurt) like that sports bra. It is as ugly as sin, but it does the job.
  • 95% of the time I feel absolutely fine. I spread those calories out through the day, so there is always a little something keeping me going. I DO struggle on days that I'm set to exercise. If I go in the morning after a high cal day, it is no big deal. But I tend to go in the afternoons and my endurance isn't great. I run…
  • I also do JUDDD and I like it a lot. It has kept me from feeling deprived, which was the nail in the coffin for me and WW. The doctor that "created" JUDDD has a website with a calculator and that's where I got my numbers. I eat 500 cals on down days and 2000 on up days. Those are portioned out eating whatever I want,…
  • I do something similar, but more patterned, if that makes sense. I calorie cycle, so I eat 2200 one day and 500 the next (give or take 100 calories either way), back and forth and back and forth. I think the official name is the Johnson Alternate Day Diet (the doctor has a website with a little calculator thing on it).…
  • The "guilt" thing really resonated with me. But you just have to move through it. I calorie cycle (one day eat 2200 calories, next day 500, back and forth) and on my "up" days I feel terribly guilty. I mean, all these foods with fat in them are supposed to be eliminated to lose weight, right? (Or at least that's the…
  • I'm a vegetarian. Well, pescatarian technically as I eat fish on ocassion. I love the taste of meat and my husband and kids eat it, but I ethically couldn't continue. I buy them organic/free range/ethical when I can and slip in lots of veg meals without them being too aware of it. :)
  • They get sugary cereal sometimes. We actually don't eat cereal for breakfast all that often. When I do buy it, we usually have plain cheerios or plain kix. My husband has a soft spot for cinnamon toast crunch, but I only buy it if he specifically asks.
