  • Not from a weight loss perspective, but arguably from a fat loss perspective.
  • It's intermittent fasting, not intermediate. ;-) Anyway, along with a proper diet and proper exercise, it's worked great for me for cutting fat loss, but I doubt it's the only thing that needs to be fixed about your regimen. Sounds like too much cardio to me. I'd consider doing some good weight training with it as well.
  • I weigh myself every morning. I wake up, go to the bathroom, and weigh myself (completely naked), and then enter it in on my Libra for Android app. If you have an Android phone, it's a great app for tracking your weight and seeing your weight trends. I don't listen to people who say you shouldn't weigh yourself every day,…
  • You can fast in the evening if you prefer. I think most people find it easier to fast in the mornings, but I don't think the timing of when you choose to fast makes a big difference. I sometimes workout fasted, sometimes don't. I think it's good to stay active in the fasted state (when you're not sleeping), but if an empty…
  • I usually go to bed on a relatively full stomach, begin my fast an hour or so before I fall asleep, then continue it through my sleep and in through the morning, so I skip breakfast. The toughest part of Lean Gains for me is right away in the morning I'm often hungry, but I'll drink a couple cups of coffee and usually sip…
  • Thanks for all the feedback everyone. This thread is a few weeks old and somehow gained new traction over the last few days and I've gotten some great responses. I appreciate them all. Someone asked my plans going forward: I'm doing a slow bulk to gain muscle while gaining as little fat as possible. I'm about 5'8, and in…
  • Is this a joke? I can't tell if you're serious or not. That's some of the worst possible advice. Those are some of the least effective exercises there are and you'll want to do heavy weights.
  • Mine is loosely based on Starting Strength, but with some variations for my own preference and because I believe I can handle more volume. I have seen great progress from it however, so I think I'm doing something right. I usually do two warm up sets before each compound exercise. If I complete my sets without losing my…
  • Ha ha thanks, yes... That's the same me. I know what you mean though, I look like two different people. I don't recognize myself really in either pic, probably still think of myself as someone more in the middle of the two.
  • Thanks for your great feedback everyone! It gives me great motivation to keep it up. For those who've asked, here's what I've done: - I follow a Lean Gains eating schedule, intermittent fasting for 12-16 hours a day. Normally Lean Gains calls for 16 hours, but I live a very active lifestyle so sometimes that becomes…
  • If you can increase the weight, of course you should. There's never really any good reason not to try to increase the weight over an extended period of time if you are capable of doing it and completing your sets.
  • I go plain and then just add my own fruit and granola to it. The flavored stuff doesn't have as much protein. I think they take out some protein to get more fruit flavor in it without adding a ton of calories to it. So I say just add your own stuff to it.
  • You're not ignoring any muscles by choosing to do one over the other. They both use the same exact muscles. You use your biceps a little more than your lats with chin-ups and vice versa for pull-ups, but you're still using the same muscles. Just do whichever one you prefer.
  • This... OP: Granted I'm not a girl, but I missed the part where you explained why you needed to know and it was any of your business?
  • No need to break your workout into body groups or workout more than 3 times a week. I lift 3 times a week and follow a full body routine, using nothing but barbells. Most people don't need to do body part splits. Here's a great, basic full body routine using free weights for you that explains the exercises for you…
  • If you need to "sneak out" just to walk to work, you need to dump him. You're a 49 year old woman! Take some control over your life. This post really just made me sad that you even have to bring it up here instead of just taking the action yourself to do it. If you don't want to dump him yet, at least stand up for…
  • The difference between 45/30/25 and 40/30/30 is pretty damn minor and likely won't make a difference. But eating at 1200 is pretty absurd for an adult male.
  • Lost about 20lbs. I've never heard that summer is when people gain the most weight though; winter would make much more sense between the holidays and the cold weather keeping people in doors.
  • Any truth to this? Doesn't sound right to me. It would be nice if there were different words for dietary fat and body fat because the way it is now, people hear the word fat and automatically assume it's bad.
  • I don't see the big deal since everyone sees it, but it still annoys the piss out of me every time I see it.
  • I sometimes wonder this too. It may sound naive, but what would the point of eating at maintenance be if you can't expect any positive changes unless you're completely content with where you are (and who is, honestly?)? I can't imagine a scenario where I would not want to eat at a surplus or deficit.
  • Who cares? Say something smart *kitten* back to them. They're just teasing you. Why take it so personal? God people are so overly dramatic on these forums.
  • I currently work 3am-9am 5 days a week and it's a physically demanding job. I could easily just lay around and be lazy the rest of the day after work, but I still manage to workout and cook my meals. If you really want to get in shape, you'd also find the same discipline and stop making excuses.
  • I go out to eat roughly once a week. When I'm eating out, it's damn near impossible to track my calories because I don't know what's in what I'm eating or what type of proportions they're using, and my best estimate could still easily be several hundred calories off. So on these days, when I eat out, it's my "cheat day"…
  • This made me lol.
  • I love leftovers. That's that many less meals I have to cook.
  • I tend to get pretty pissed off at all the *kitten* at the gym. Maybe it has something to do with exercise, but it has more to do with them being *kitten*.
  • Whose plans are you following exactly? Could you have been any more vague with your question?
  • I don't track water. I drink when I'm thirsty. Everything I drink is either water or contains water. I manage to stay plenty hydrated without needing to track my water, even though I drink a ton of coffee. I'm also not sure that there's any scientific evidence that proves you actually need 8 cups of water a day.
  • Just had to ask about this...? Your body doesn't know or care what day of the week it is. Fast whatever days are best for your schedule. Anyway, I don't know anything about the 5:2 fast, but I follow Lean Gains (fast 16 hours, eat 8 hours), and from the different intermittent fasting plans I've seen it seems the most…
