  • Wow great job! Keep up the good work!
  • To consume alcohol with the lowest calorie consumption is just to drink it straight or on the rocks. I'm a big fan of whiskey on the rocks, preferably Irish whiskey. Even though it's the lowest in calories, it still adds up pretty quick if you drink a lot. One ounce has ~70 calories, but who stops at one ounce? I'll drink…
  • Wow, thanks everyone! Just stepped away for a little bit and came back to a whole page of flattering feedback. It means a lot to me! Your feedback and all of your great work help keep me motivated too! I haven't yet, but I need to... The waist on my pants especially are all too loose, and my belt doesn't even fit anymore…
  • Thanks a lot! :) I appreciate it.
  • No, it's not. One can be "skinny" but still have a lot of extra fat.
  • A few years ago, I became fat for the first time in my life. Not just a bit overweight, but actually an unpleasant looking fat. So I started eating 'healthier' (avoiding processed foods) and doing a lot of cardio. I lost a lot of weight, and was left with a skinny fat frame. Sure, I looked skinny with my shirt on, but I…
  • Not sure if serious?
  • I haven't read all of the comments, but I clicked on this thread expecting to find people discussing restaurants that don't provide any nutritional info about their meals and cook excessively large proportions in tons of butter so you don't realize how much you're consuming. I'd be a little more sympathetic to the OP then.…
  • I still drink, usually just on the weekends, but there's no doubt that cutting my alcohol consumption has been a big part of the success of my diet, and my excessive alcohol consumption contributed to me getting fatter last year . There's really no alcohol that will save you from putting weight on if you drink enough. I…
  • To bulk, just eat a couple hundred calories above maintenance and get at least 1 gram per lb of body mass, you probably need more if you're an active runner. Then get at least .4-.5 grams of fat per lb of body mass. The rest of the diet you can fill in however you want -- with whatever combination of protein, fat, carbs…
  • I just bought one for the first time a few weeks ago and I absolutely love it. I make meals in it every few days and it usually lasts me for 3-4 days (usually eat one meal out of it per day) and it's delicious and healthy. I don't have any strict recipes because I just like to make up my own concoctions, but my favorite…
  • Really, it's probably better to aim for set numbers rather than percentages, but unfortunately MFP doesn't give us the option for that. But I set my ratio at 35% protein, 35% carbs, 30% fat, and it gives me around the set numbers I want.
  • Not to nitpick, but you said "eat as much fruit as possible." So I think that's where he came up with the idea that you said "eat a ton of fruit." Either way, I don't think anyone needs to avoid fruit as long as they stay under their calorie goal and get enough protein and fat.
  • Tastes good, but for a protein drink, it has way too many carbs and fat. I prefer my protein shakes to be as close as possible to nothing but protein.
  • No, there is no such thing as a "masculinity crisis."
  • This one is my favorite and probably the most accurate overall (at least for me personally), but I think you will need to tweak any site's recommendations to fit you best: http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator.htm
  • Ben & Jerry's ice cream.
  • No need to be a smart *kitten*. I'm simply wondering what the differences between chicken breasts are because I wanted to know how I should record the chicken in my food diary, and there are differences between chicken breasts if you look through the database, so I just wanted to double check. If you don't care to…
  • I don't care about this, I'm merely wondering what the nutritional value of the chicken is. (Also, I believe it is illegal in the U.S. to give growth hormones to chickens, so the 'organic' chicken packaging is just nonsense since no chickens are given growth hormones. But that's for another thread, anyway.)
  • No, how do I tell the difference? Looks all the same to me.
  • It doesn't say anything about rib meat. Simply says "Boneless Chicken Breasts: Product of USA." And that's about it. I assume that means it doesn't have rib meat?
  • Currently taking: Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey Protein Optimum Nutrition Creatine Monohydrate (powder, not pills) Controlled Labs Purple Wraath BCAAs Controlled Labs Orange Triad multivitamins I also drink coffee habitually and I take some generic fish oil pills when I feel necessary. A lot of people will say…
  • This. It's a DEADlift. The weight is supposed to come to a complete dead stop between each rep. You don't want to tap and go each rep. You're basically cheating then.
  • Food scale, blender, and crock pot are so far my investments, and they've all been well worth it. I'd like to get a heart rate monitor, but I'm not sure if I really need it. I'm doing fine without it.
  • It was just a rumor though. Phelps himself denied that he was ever on this diet: http://content.usatoday.com/communities/gameon/post/2012/05/michael-phelps-12000-calorie-diet-just-a-myth/1#.UCawok1lRFs
  • A small amount of olive oil is good for you, not a half of cup of it. Just because something is "good for you" does not mean it's good for you to consume an excessive amount of it. Anyway, to the OP, just get over it and do better next time. I don't think oil "evaporates" like that though.
  • I've had to cut back on my drinking quite a bit when I started losing weight. I admittedly drank way too much before anyway, but it's really easy to consume too many calories drinking and not notice it. I still drink some on the weekends, you'd be surprised how much of a difference cutting out calories from alcohol can…
  • Protein shakes are a good source of protein if you need more. Do you need them? Only if you have trouble reaching whatever your protein goals are. Do they make things easier? Sure, I find them to be a pretty convenient way to reach my fairly protein goals.
  • ^^^ Wow... There's some great scientific reasoning in this post...
