Good for you for 1) trying to ride even though you knew you might not be able and 2) for losing the weight so you could ride. This is a great success story!!

I agree with everyone who says to plan your day ahead of time. But I'll also add that it becomes easier over time. Once you've been doing this for awhile (I've been logging for 2 years now) you'll get a sense of how much you've eaten and how many calories you have left. But in the beginning you have to be super vigilant…

My brother was the same way. He saw a doctor, had a bunch of blood work done and they found the cause. Luckily it was easily fixable. Go to the doctor and figure this out.

Grow your own herbs and you'll know they're 100% organic. Good luck!

14 years ago I was told to lose weight because I had 4 of the 5 markers for diabetes. I was 32 at the time. I lost the weight BUT first I really had to think about it. I debated whether I should just keep eating the way I was and then go on medication when the time came or lose weight (in my mind losing weight was really…

^^^I  you.^^^ This man knows what he's talking about. Listen to him. Not the people who are afraid of sugar.

I disagree. Maybe for a very select few people it can lead to an ED. I log my calories daily but its my weekly caloric intake that I concentrate the most on. If I overeat one day, I balance it out by watching what I eat the next few days. That's not an ED. That's watching what I eat and not beating myself up over indulging.

Thank you!

This is a topic that has confused me for a long time. I just recently started weight training (as in the last four months). I need to lose more weight but I also want to build muscle. I keep hearing that I have to up my calories to build muscle but I don't want to do that because I still want to lose weight. Do I have to…

46 and in the best shape I've been in since my 20s. Lost 30 pounds and have discovered weight lifting. Absolutely you can do it. Don't use your age as a crutch. There are people on here that are much older than me and could kick my butt in the gym.

Listen to your body. I had a day like that the other day. I really thought about what it was my body was telling me. Do I want to eat because I'm bored? Because I'm emotional about something? Or am I truly hungry? Turns out I was truly hungry and so I ate what I wanted (choosing healthy foods). My body simply needed those…

-Take it slow. -Set your MFP goal to lose 1 pound/week. -Allow yourself to make mistakes. If you have a bad eating day, start over the next day. Don't give up just because of one bad day. Remember the weight didn't come on in a few months and its not going to come off in a few months. -This is not a diet. This is a…

This isn't about forgiveness. This is about giving him the tools he needs to succeed on his own. This is about teaching him that he has to live within rules--be it your home or the outside world. You can forgive him but you also have to teach him. I know this is easy for all of us to say because we're not emotionally…

These are all amazing. Bump for later inspiration.

It sounds like you have to give him boundaries and stick to them. Our kids have known from a very young age what the rules are in our house. You can live here as long as you are in school. After you graduate from high school you must either go to college, join the military or get a full time job to support yourself. You…

I've been at maintenance for about 4 months and I still log every day. It's become a habit now and I don't mind it. It literally takes a few minutes out of my day and I'm good to go.

I can't imagine what all of those apples will do to your stomach. It would tear mine up. Good luck to you.

Very interesting. Thanks for sharing. Bumping for later and in for the food addicts.
-
This is why I track my calories on a weekly basis as well as a daily. As long as I'm under for the week I keep maintaining. That allows me a day or two over calories as long as I balance it with a day or two under.

I tend to ignore programs like these and do my own research. Unfortunately, most of America sits on their couches and devours every single thing the media hands them and so the next big thing will be sugar because no one can think for themselves or research for themselves.

I still find myself falling into the "good food"/"bad food" mindset and I'm trying very hard to divert that thinking. I agree with you, OP.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE???? (Yes, I meant to scream that). Why do people think its necessary to spout every horrible thought that pops into their small brains? I am just sick reading these posts. The worst is when it comes from family members--those people who are supposed to be the most supportive. I come from a tall…

I work part-time but recently a manager quit so I'm working full-time until we can hire and train another. It's been very, very tough on my family. I've only ever worked part-time and my husband works evenings so its all me pretty much all the time when it comes to kids and their activities. Plus I have a side job. The…

This x100. I love reading the threads full of snark because I always learn something from the discussion and I can draw my own conclusions from pros and cons that always emerge from the posts. Some people on here are incredibly knowledgable about weight loss and weight lifting and I owe nearly everything to them for…

Stop worrying about a number on a little, tiny tag on your clothes. If they look good on you then that's the size you should wear. If you have a muffin top when you button your pants or they're sliding down your butt then that's the wrong size.

This is awesome and such an inspiration for someone like me who has started weightlifting. Unfortunately I can't squat due to severe arthritis in my hip (my legs simply won't go in that direction). But it makes me feel good that this story could be my story if I stick to what I can do. Thanks for sharing!

Sometimes I don't worry about it and sometimes I go online and look up their menu with nutritional information. If I know I'm going ahead of time and I know what I'm going to order I log it and then adjust my meals the rest of the day so I can still be under calories.

Shut up! This makes me feel so much better. Thank you for posting this. I've been having a bad "I feel fat" day and this post lifted my spirits. I weigh 165 and am 3 inches taller than you. BTW, You look awesome in this picture.

This is what I try to do every other day at the gym. A variation of 5X5--plus a few other things thrown in--I can't do squats due to severe arthritis (I don't work a lot on legs because I walk 3-5 miles a day for my job): Barbell Bench Press Bent Over Barbell Row Dumbbell Bicep Curl Dumbbell Side Lateral Raise Front…
