  • I’ll be there too. It’s my brother’s favorite race and I’m excited to finally get to do it with him.
  • Good luck with Snowman - that’s a seriously tough course. You must be much better at scrambles than my husband and I are. We stayed in Caernarfon 3 years ago and made our way to the top of Moel Siabad. I fully agreed with a hiker coming the other way, “There’s rather a lot of rocks up here.” The cafe at the bottom was a…
  • You too. Awesome swim, bike and run were good for my level of fitness. Couldn’t have asked for nicer weather.
  • I did the Waterfront Oly in Chattanooga this Sunday. Temps were good for the end of June. IM CHOO is either a scorcher or wet. We’ll see what we get. I have the Fall Creek Falls HIM mid-August, so I’m also building volume with a little speed work mixed in now.
  • I haven’t checked the forums in ages…I have 3 races this year. All deferrals. My first is actually a deferral from 2019 when I was having back issues. I spent last year doing lots of core work. Oly I’m Chattanooga on June 27, HIM in late August near Knoxville TN, and IM Chattanooga at the end of September.
  • Sounds like fun and busy. I’m signed up for IM Chattanooga and a couple of 5K OWS. These are my first swim-only races. At least there’s no biking or running afterwards👍

  • Sounds like my 2019. I’ve been doing rehab since June. Related back, hip and plantar fasciatis issues are all light years better. Have you read Stuart McGill’s “The Back Mechanic”? He’s done a couple of podcasts I can share too.
  • Good luck. I remember being really intimidated by the step up to a longer race. Oly's have become my favorite distance. They are long enough to make gathering all the gear worthwhile but you're done well before lunch. They are also short and fast enough that you never feel like you are just slogging through your day. Enjoy!
  • Height 5’ 7” CW 130 GW 125 August Goal 128 I was making progress last month and then we went on vacation- lots of hiking during the first part of the week then lots of eating with not-so-much activity at the end. I'm in the South - teachers started last Monday and students return to school this coming Monday. As long as I…
  • Height 5’ 7” CW 131 GW 125 July Goal 127 7/1 129 I've stepped up the number of veggies in my diet and have been getting lots of exercise. Slow progress...
  • Height 5’ 7” CW 131 GW 125 June Goal 128 6/27 129 I had my best race in several years on Saturday - profile pic is from my finish. My next race is at the end of July. Snacking in the late afternoon is my downfall. Now when the temptation hits, I take a quick look at the pic, remember how good it felt to be just a little…
  • Height 5’ 7” CW 131 GW 125 June Goal 128 June 16: 130 - Not sure if it's real progress or just water variation. 2 more weeks in the month...
  • I would also suggest that your goal for your first OWS swim should be to learn all you can from the experience rather than having a specific time goal. The lack of lanes and lane lines is different in the context of a race than in a practice swim with a friend or two. Also decide how much contact with other swimmers would…
  • I like J. Crew and Eddie Bauer. Depending on how formal your workplace is, travel clothing, especially skirts, are also great and wrinkle free. REI and Sahalie are favorites.
  • Height 5’ 7” CW 131 GW 125 June Goal 128 I hit my goal weight back in 2012-13 with the help of MFP. The weight is slowly returning and feels like big, warm blanket around my middle. :-(
  • No experience with the Fenix but I love my Garmin 735xt - the tri HRM strap is the first one I've had that's comfortable and stays put although I haven't tried it for pool swimming.
  • Big goals - happy training. IMMT is on my bucket list. I'm focusing on Olympic distance races - just a couple of local ones- and trail running. My first non-IM marathon is mid-Feb and maybe the Duncan Ridge 30 K in Nov. The marathon trails are pretty tame. The Duncan Ridge trails are steep and rocky although elevations are…
  • I just did St. Anthony's Oly. Doing another small Oly in June and a HIM in Sept as well as several 10K's and a half-marathon. Taking a break from IM and doing more speed work has been refreshing.
  • Wow, what a journey. Best wishes to you, be well, and good luck continuing on a positive path.
  • Yes, indoor exercise is boring. I'm a big fan of podcasts and my library has a great selection of audiobooks which really helps.
  • Rowing? Perhaps either on a machine or I have friends who live in Chattanooga and enjoy sea kayak ing on the Tennessee River. Have you ever tried wearing white cooling arm sleeves? They keep the sun off, cool if you get them wet, and if it's really hot, put ice in the top. Mine are made by Craft and they are great on hot…
  • Welcome back. I did IMLP last fall - awesome course. I need a break from full-IM so I'm signed up for 2 Oly's and a half this year. Doing IMLP again is on my bucket list though.
  • I'm 5'7'', 128 lbs (max 160 lbs) and maintaining on abt 1800 calories if I don't exercise. I'm a teacher, so my job involves quite a bit of time on my feet. Exercising 3-4 days per week buys another 3-600 calories those days. During heavy triathlon training, my calorie intake may double :-)
  • Welcome. Be warned - triathlon is addicting :)
  • In terms of toll on my body, the impact of running is far more stressful than swimming or biking both in training and racing. One of my training partners says that the purpose of all that swimming and biking is just to get you tired before the real race starts on the run. Maybe a river swim with part of it upstream or an…
  • Gatorskin tires are great if you are prone to flats and the reminder to carry a tube with a long valve for race tires is a good one. My brother had a new P3 and double flatted about 30 miles into an Ironman and lost almost 2 hr waiting for a valve extension and just made the bike cutoff. For hot, long rides, I carry a…
