  • BodyPump is a great way to do some resistance training. You can select the weight YOU want to do. It can take a few classes to figure out where you need to be. The instructor should be more than happy to help you get set up! Sorry about the delayed response, have you gone to try it already? In my opinion, any of the Les…
  • CX is awesome. Tough but not high intensity. If you're looking for something to really get your heartrate up & work up a sweat, try a Body Attack, Body Combat or Grit class (if they're available at your gym).
  • If it's Les Mills BodyFlow, it's a mix of Tai Chi, Yoga & Pilates, so no, you will not burn a lot of calories. It is great for mobility/flexibility however, which can be a nice complement to cardio/weights workouts.
  • Ditto to the bold. I workout after work (around 5:30pm) and eat 45-60 minutes before. I usually have ground turkey & rice, or a protein bar if I haven't been good about prepping my food lol.
  • Like others have said, the best exercise is the one you enjoy & will stick with! I love BodyAttack & BodyCombat classes for cardio. I also walk my dog.
  • I've had my Charge HR for over 2 years & I love it. I like seeing the graphs & trends, and it's fun to be in challenges with friends. I know it's not 100% accurate, but it does keep me aware of how much I'm moving (or not moving lol).
  • Exactly! I wear tight fitting capris & tank tops when I workout. It has nothing to do with wanting other people to look at me. Form fitting clothes stay put better and are less distracting when I'm exercising. I personally am not comfortable wearing just a sports bra, but I don't care if others do. I don't see a problem…
  • I deadlift & squat in socks. I don't know if the gym would encourage this, but I just slip my shoes off for the lift and have them on for the rest of my workout. No one has said anything. With shoes on, I can't get my feet placed quite right. (I have running shoes, haven't tried lifting shoes.)
  • 5'2", 32 year old female, approx. 143 lbs (heavier than I'd like but it is what it is for now). Maintaining on somewhere between 2300-2500 calories a day. I did heavy weight lifting for about a year, but my focus shifted about 6 months ago. I teach a high intensity group fitness class so between teaching, practicing & my…
  • If you're sick I think the most important thing is to focus on resting and getting healthy. There will be time after to get back on track. No point in stressing yourself out and making yourself feel worse. Get well soon!
  • Yes, I really do love working out. It took a few years of quitting and restarting to get to this point though. And that doesn't mean I love it every day. Some days the thought of going to the gym sounds like torture, so you know what? I don't go those days haha. Cardio machines bore me, and while I enjoy some weight…
  • Same here. I was very inactive as a teen, and into my early 20's. I didn't get serious about exercise until I was 25/26.
  • It's definitely a personal choice. While I like the idea of working out first thing in the morning, I don't have the energy to have a really good workout. At this point in my life, exercising right after work (about 5:00pm) is what works best for me. I have a few hours between the gym & bedtime so I have no issues…
  • Yes! I've never liked egg yolks. I'll eat whole eggs scrambled or fried (yolk broken), but anything where the yolk is separate is yucky to me.
  • I second the Quest bars (I don't get what the fuss is about), Kombucha (if I wanted that taste left in my throat, I'd just vomit), and Vega One protein powder. I also can't stand tomatoes. I've never liked them. I've tried them a couple times over the years just to see, but nope, they still make me gag.
  • My skin is very sensitive, and I get very red & sweaty when I workout hard. If I don't wipe the sweat off during my workout, my skin burns. If I rub my face too hard with a towel during or after, it also makes my skin burn & hurt. Next time try patting your face dry and see it that stops it from burning.
  • I second Insanity! If you're in the US you can check out Les Mills On Demand. You can do a bunch of their workout "classes" at home. It's available in a few other countries but I can't remember which ones. (I do know it's not available in Canada :disappointed: )
  • I've heard that BodyCombat is losing a lot of the martial arts moves, but I haven't tried a class recently. I'm disappointed, as the kicking & punching is what I love about Combat.
  • I was just asking friends about this the other day. Immediately after an intense cardio workout I'm hot & sweaty (obviously), but about 20 minutes later I get chills, and a cold sweat on my back. It lasts for a couple hours after. After reading the above comments, I could see it being from dehydration. (I'm teaching the…
  • Hmm, how do I pick just one coworker? Dear Annoying Coworker: - Please stop leaving your food in the toaster oven for it to burn (daily). It stinks, and we all know you didn't mean to burn it, despite what you say. You forgot it, admit it. - Washing your hair more than once a week would be great, it also stinks. - Do you…
  • Aww, I used to have a cat named Houdini!
  • My dog Freya gets me out the door for walks. She loves the snow so she helps keep me motivated for walks even through the winter. I tried running with her a few times but she wasn't into it and would lag behind. So now we stick with walking, and she gets to run off leash in the dog park.
  • Honestly? 5-6 years. I joined a gym when I was 20, would go regularly for a few months then quit for a few months. I did the on/off thing for several years until I found a trainer & training style I liked about 5 years ago. Now I workout at least 3x a week (with the occasional week off). ETA: Something that helped was when…
  • I love lifting. I hate cardio until I've started. Then I feel fantastic. I try to do different classes for my cardio as I find them more fun than running or biking.
  • OHP is definitely my worst.
  • This is me too. I'm not quite at parallel but am working on it. I also have a bad knee that doesn't like to be bent much past parallel so I will probably never do ATG as I wouldn't be able to get back up! I'm not too worried about it though. I will just do as much as I can.
  • There are a couple people like this at my gym too. I don't know why they need to slam the barbell down like they're trying to break something. The people who grunt really loudly on every single rep bother me too.
  • Core. It reminds me that there are, in fact, muscles hidden there
  • I've had people yell things at me while I'm out. I usually just roll my eyes and carry on with what I'm doing. If they just keep on going they were probably just being immature and aren't actually dangerous so you should keep doing what you're doing.
  • Also, for those that mentioned dodge ball - it was the. worst. We usually played that if you were hit you'd sit down until the person that hit you was hit, then you could get back up. All the "cool", athletic kids would hog the balls and only throw them at their buddies. Then I (very un-athletic) would end up being one of…
