I do both cardio and P90x on the same days, most of the time. I usually workout after work at 7:30am for about an hour. Sleep for a couple of hours and do the P90x (started two weeks ago). The nice part about this for me is, if I miss my morning workout, I don't have a cow cause I know I still have P90x. Be careful on your…

Sorry, thats 12 minutes at my current weight at about 215. I think it was 12 hours at 298 :) Doug

Yeah, that's me, about a 12 minute mile. Kinda makes me wonder what my VO2 number was at 298 ...like a -17? One thing's for sure, it was a real eye opener. Doug

I had my gall bladder and stones removed last year. It was suppose to be an outpatient surgery. They thought I only had 2 stones. Turns out I had enough to make a necklace, I had 23 stones removed. Needless to say, I had to stay overnight cause it took so freaking long. Doug

I had my meniscus repaired last December. Before I opted for surgery my ortho had me try a brace. The brace allowed me to workout, but all it was doing was masking the pain. As soon as I took it off I was back to dragging my foot across the room when I walked. The surgery itself is outpatient and not much pain afterwards.…

I tried, but unfortunately my size 14 foot doesn't fit into the straps. So I need to buy some cycling shoes now. Doug

I'm that way. I run 5.5 to 6.0 on the treadmill, which felt 'fast' to me. When I ran my first 5k and was timed about 6 minutes faster than my treadmill time, I'm think wth? Especially since it felt like I run slower outdoors. But I've ran other races since then and its always the same. Doug

Once a month. Its purely psychological for me. I feel alot better knowing if I lost 4 pounds for the month vs 1 pound for the week. Doug

Don't listen to the gaining muscle stuff. There's no way you would've gained 5 pounds of muscle in 7 days. Give yourself a couple of days and weigh yourself again. I always wait at least a day, gives my body time to adapt to everything I had just done. Also, try and weigh yourself in the same situation that you did your…

Try shifting down more and use the granny gears (the small chain ring). Depending on the grade of the hill I'll shift down to 1/4..1/3 if I have to. Also, make sure you're shifting at the right moment. If you shift to late, its going to be a little harder to get up the hill. Don't know what type of distances you're doing,…

When I joined Bally, my membership came with 4 free training sessions. That's all I needed for a kickstart. So if you look around, you might find something similiar. Try this link to find gyms in your area... http://www.globalfit.com/ They'll also list membership prices and the distance from your home (or work). That's how…

Also depends on what you're doing. For example if I'm on the elliptical, I'll burn about 300-400 in 30 minutes. If I'm doing Muay Thai, I can easily burn 500-600 calories in 30 minutes. So its really a combination of your weight, your activity level, time, etc. that can influence on how much you're burning. I also don't…

I'm with Jaime. I burn about 1000-1500 calories a day. There's no way I could eat all of those extra calories. Doug

This is another example of a worthless gadget, but on the other hand, I do enjoy watching the women's version of the advertisement :) Doug

Depends on the mileage. If its only 40 minutes, there's no need for a camelback. I'd say just one water bottle should be all you need. When I ride anything over 2 hours, I always bring one water bottle and another bottle with Gatorade. Helmet...always. HRM...that's always with me since I also use it as my main watch now.…

I had an incident where I was in the right lane, going about 20mph. Some guy, who wanted to turn right, thought he could beat me and got into the left lane and turned right in front of me. I flipped him off. He turned around, sped in front of me, stopped the car and got out. I guess he didn't realize how big I was until I…

The side sticthing was just in an article in Runners World magazine, the September issue. If you can find it, the remedy is on page 78. Basically, the cause is a breathing issue and your liver. What you're doing now (taking a break by walking) is good. The other recommendation is to exhale as your left foot hits the ground…

I say go to a doc, especially one an ortho who specializes in sport injuries. If your knees are that bad, do not move to the elliptical. When I had a torn meniscus, my ortho told me the elliptical was the worse machine to move to. His recommendation was the stationary bike. At first I didn't think that made sense, but…

Nice to see a cycling thread. I've been training with my team for Pedal to the Point in August. I try and do about 150 miles a week, which depends on whether I commute or not. I'm not to crazy about riding my bike at 10 o'clock at night, but still try at least one or two times a week. BTW, if anyone wants to donate for…

I wouldn't wear a poncho, due to the fact that water from the ground will get you wet from underneath. A rain jacket would be better. Also, if its warm, don't wear short sleeves, cause if you do, you'll perspire and your skin will stick to the jacket. I also wear waterproof pants. You should also have a headlight and…

How long is your lunch? If its at least an hour, that would be a good time to get some type of exercise in. Normally I run for 30 minutes and have a quick lunch after that. Doug

Not sure where it falls in the food chain, but I have the Mio Select. Can't remember the price I paid for it, but it was under $100 that I purchased from my local sports store. I've been using it for over a year and I love it. Besides the HRM and calorie counter, you can keep track of your calories you intake and recovery…

Thank God I don't listen to these people that say 'yes yes yes' or you HAVE to eat back your excercise calories. I burn roughly 1000-1500 calories a day. With my calorie intake at roughly 1800, there's no way I could eat back all of those calories that I've burned. I've been on this change for 13 months now. From the…

Someone gave me a Clif bar after a cycle ride. I'm hooked on those puppies. I pretty much cleared out my whole area buying all the Clif bars I could find. I fridge mine so by the time I get back from my ride, they're not all melted from being in the car. Doug

I've worked the midnite shift for 24 years. I work out as soon as I'm off, sleep for a couple of hours. Then I try to eat around 2pm. Then go back to bed. Eat again at work around midnite. I keep the same eat 2 times a day on my days off. I still eat around 1 or 2, but move my second meal back to around 8pm. Doug

Not paying extra bucks because its a bigger size. Doug

I'm taking back to back. First it's TKD. Then right after that its Muay Thai. We also have something called Cage Fitness that Matt Hughes from the UFC started that I take right after that. Needless to say, I'm pooped after 2 hours, but I love it. Doug

I'm cheap...I have a snap on belt that holds pouches for my camera lenses that goes around my waist. I just use that and put my water in the pouch where my lens would normally go. Doug

I'm a big fan of Chalean Johnson's workout dvd on beachbody. She mixes cardio and weights into her training. There's a dvd I think for each month. So you can always mix things up. Doug

I use a Mio Motiva. I used a Polar with the chest strap years ago, but I got sick and tired of putting that darn thing on. People are always praising how the chest version is better...phoeey. Either one will work just great. Plus, when somebody keels over and needs their pulse checked, where is it normally checked...the…
