My doctor used the words "prediabetic" and I am only in my fifties. It's in my family but I didn't think I'd hit it until my 60s or 70s. So I'm avoiding the dreaded diagnosis.

You can do this.

I'm replying.

I've yo-yoed a lot. But at 53 I was told I was prediabetic. That shook me to my core. Now I know this is for life. 24 pounds later my numbers are all in the normal range. But I can't stop. This is for the rest of my years.
-
You can if you THINK you can.

I used to yoyo. No more. Got a scary health diagnosis so now I know this is for life. I'll still have an occasional treat. But only rarely and only a little. It's a "I want to live for many more years" thing.

I turned 54 yesterday and have been in the throes of menopause for at least 4 years. I am working the lose the last 6-8 pounds after having lost 23. If I can hit 30 it would be nice round number. :) This time it's for life - I am determined. What was different for me from past weight loss efforts is I'm not just focused on…

Reynoldsburg, Ohio here - married to a Buckeye and the mom of a Buckeye! Go Bucks! Except for college basketball....having come from Connecticut it's "Go Huskies".

Thank you - that is helpful.

Not there, but getting a "prediabetes" diagnosis has kicked me in the pants and motivated me to do better. My goals is to put off type 2 until my 60s or 70s. About to turn 54 this week. Friend me if you want!

Welcome, best wishes and happy new year. You can do this!
-
I've heard it said the slower you lose it the less likely it is to come back. I always target a pound a week.

I love my Jawbone UP. It works better, for me, than the Fitbit I had bought previously. I don't need a heart rate monitor, but I like how it tracks my steps and sleep.

I started my most recent efforts in September after concluding that my health and my age require this be for the rest of my days. For some reason, with this as a motivator (and an impending diagnosis I am trying to fend off) I have been successful so far. You can do this, but it must come from within. It's in you - tap it…

I can only speak for myself, but I find it easy to you and a great way to hold myself accountable. Not perfect, but definitely useful.

Hello and welcome. I'm from Ohio, but originally grew up in New England. Most of my workouts are weights and/or walking. I'm a few years older than you but am glad to provide moral support.

You have me in tears. I lost my big brother who was on the transplant list (as an adult) but didn't get it in time. I am a huge supporter of transplants and wish you strength and success in your endeavor so you may have many years with your little one as he grows.

"Earth Mother with an attitude". I love it. Can I use that one too? I consider myself a bada$$ old broad. Born in '61. Working on my last 11 pounds. Trying to do it in a healthy way - like you described. Cutting down on sugar, fewer carbs (but cannot totally eliminate them) and more veggies and fruit. Seems to be working.…

The cold never bothered me anyway.......LOL! I have been called an ice queen. Nyuk nyuk.

I was going to the gym early, showering, and then going to work. Didn't like their shower facilities. Now I go into work earlier, and stop at the gym on the way home 4 nights per week. I can then shower at home when I'm done. I work out at home on the weekend days, but occasionally go to the gym if I feel like it. I found…

53 and staring down 54 in a short period of time. Have always had trouble with my weight and now my health has got to be priority. Empty nester who wants to be healthy so I can enjoy retirement, when it comes, with my husband.

I just sent you message.

Had a Fitbit but returned it because it wouldn't charge. Now using Jawbone Up and like it. No perfect, but for me better than just a pedometer. I also like the app for Jawbone better than Fitbit.

I am 12 away, so in the same boat. I know doing it slowly is better, but I'm pretty impatient. :)

What I'm doing differently is that I am not eating such that I'm not hungry. I have had to cut my food intake the the point of my being hungry a lot and being ok with it. Being hungry means it's working. If I eat until satisfied...even if it's all "healthy" foods it's too much for me. I'll either stagnate or gain. Can't do…

53 and I'm working on my last 12 pounds and then will be maintaining. Can I join?

I'm more like 2 hours away in Columbus. Is that too far?

I am not quite in the same situation, but can empathasize. I was vegetarian for 20 years and raised my daughter so. She is now vegan. Although I no longer limit myself, I have been there. My name is Steff. Hello!

Sent a friend request.

My daughter is vegan (and one of my biggest supporters and encouragers) and every year I buy her a Tofurkey.
