  • Those who really care about you will share your desire to get and stay healthy. They're the only ones who matter.
  • I discovered a sweet potato dish that doesn't cause you to blow it. 2 lb sliced sweet potatoes 2 peeled, sliced apples 2 small shallots, chopped 1 tsp chopped ginger root 1/2 cup orange juice 1/2 cup apple cider 1 tsp curry powder salt and pepper to taste 1/2 cup chopped dates I mine I didn't have dates, so they weren't…
  • I really like my jawbone much better than the fitbit I had to return. I have had to do a soft restart a couple of times but that did the trick.
  • If I eat, even healthy options, so that I'm not hungry I either gain or stay at an unhealthy weight. I've exercised religiously for almost 20 years and change it up frequently so it's just the food that's doing it to me. Protein and veggies does not fill me up. Ever. I have come to the conclusion that if I am going to hit…
  • I work full time. I pack a lunch and breakfast. I eat breakfast when I get to work (during the week), lunch when I can fit it into my schedule, and the stop at gym on the way home. After leaving the gym I get home, have a light dinner, and start it all over the next day. I spent 50-60 minutes at the gym, alternating…
  • Weekends can be a challenge for me, too, but I try to eat less during the week to make up for the slight increase on Saturday and Sunday. Still hungry all the time, but liking the results. We'll see how my blood work comes back shortly after the new year.
  • I'm back too. On my way and intend to stay for maintenance. Nothing wrong with getting some support, right?

  • We can gripe to each other. I have found one snack that is low guilt and that really satisfies the "crunch" urge. Trader Joe's Inner Peas - dried and lightly salted pea pods and they taste great. I snack on them when I just can't stand the gnawing inside.
  • 53 and working on my last 12 but will need to keep at it for life. I expect I'll be here for a long time so the weight doesn't come back.
  • Checking in with some support. Don't let your big goals get so daunting that they overwhelm you. One day, one meal, one step at a time. I am on a similar journey which I have concluded will take me the rest of my life, because even when I hit my goal I have to be vigilant so it doesn't come back (yet again). You can do…
  • I confess that fruits, vegetables, proteins have never filled me up. I have had to cut back on white flour/rice/pasta. I eat small amounts of whole grains. This is the only way for me to get to a healthy weight and maintain it. I have just come to the conclusion that I have to be hungry for the rest of my life. I eat 1200…
  • Columbus, Ohio by way of Bristol, Connecticut.
  • You can do this. You have it in you. You have so much life ahead of you and you so can do this. One step. One day at a time. Slips can always be made up. I wish I'd have committed to changing my life in my twenties instead of my fifties. Don't feel the same way years from now.
  • I added you as a friend. I'm 53 and trying to fend off a diabetes diagnosis. So far down 16 pounds but striving for another 10-12. I will add Laelonnie1 as well!
  • I have been "back on the wagon" since September but came back here this week because it will help me keep it up. So far lost 16 and need to lose another 10-12. Holidays are approaching but I intend to stick to it. I need to for my overall health. The older you get the harder it is, so I've just had to commit that this is…
  • Best - expressive eyes. Worst - no jaw. LOL
  • "You can if you think you can." - not sure where I first heard this years ago. "Do or not do. There is no 'try'" - Master Yoda "Stay hungry, my friends." - Cooking Channel - LOL!
  • I'm back after a while being away. My weight, once lost, crept back up after losing a family member. Every time someone close to me passes my weight goes back up. With my number not looking good I am now committed to maintaining a healthy BMI and number so my life will be extended. Exercise has never been an issue for me.…
  • I now weigh less than what my license says.
  • I don't think it's healthy to lose that much weight that quickly. IMHO At your height and weight, your BMI is well within the normal range. So yes, I think it's not worth putting your body through that kind of shock.
  • The more I stay on track with exercising, the more energy I have - but it takes getting so it's a habit. It takes a while, but you can get there. In a pinch, I run in place while watching tv. I bought a treadmill, which is worth the money if you use it. You can do this - I promise you!
  • I'll never be an 8, but I'm thrilled with the 12s I bought the other day. Don't think 10s are realistic for me, either. Have never been able to wear single digits in my adulthood. Even when I was many pounds thinner. I'm happy.
  • 3.5 hours of housework/cleaning and taking down all our Christmas decorations. Making roasted veggies, soup and chicken for dinner. House smells good.
  • With my body type - I'd be happy in a 12. Now wearing 14s and they're loose.
  • It can sure impact your overall mood and weight gain. I turn 50 next week. I've been feeling it now for the last year or so - and had a hysterectomy in October. They left an ovary but the hot flashes have been coming fast and furious - mostly in the evening. Hang in there. What has helped me is an increase in exercise.
  • My husband takes pre-cooked, grilled chicken breast and puts it on a whole wheat bun, and then zaps it in the microwave before leaving the house - and he eat it on his way to work.
  • I love how this site keeps me "honest" because I've vowed to post everything that I eat - no matter what. It has been a great help. You can do this! Do you have any exercise options? There are plenty you can do at home. A treadmill is good. You can do running in place, you can walk your neighborhood, you can lift light…
  • To maintain what I've lost and to work at the last 10 pounds. I know they're the hardest. But my birthday is a week from tomorrow and I won't being the losing in earnest until that's passed. I'll be turning 50 and there will be a party for me.
  • Treadmill 3 miles at 4 miles per hour - uphill (8% grade)
