That's always the first place I lose weight!

Thanks a very good suggestion. Whenever we eat out I set aside half of everything before I dig in and I only eat half (bringing the rest home). It really helps.

Excellent article. Thanks for sharing.

My original goal was to have all my health numbers in the "normal" range by age 50. I got my cholesterol, sugar, and blood pressure in line without losing a lot of weight. But my BMI was still in the "overweight" category. I'm now just barely into the "normal" BMI range, so technically, I've hit it, but I want some wiggle…

I am that way. Always have been, and resigned myself to always being that way. I've learned to just live with it. When I'm bored and depressed it's easier to give in to the hunger. I'm trying hard not to go there. Hang in there. You're not alone.

Go for it!

I felt the same way as you. To get me started, I didn't stop eating anything. I just cut my portions. I took less of each thing and before I knew it, I was losing some weight. Seeing a difference on the scale and in my clothes inspired me to start making better food choices, and the weight loss picked up. You can do this.…

Hi and welcome. Lots of cool people here.

Congratulations!

I had a hysterectomy which removed a five pound fibroid along with my uterus, so it was similar to a c-section. 21 stitches and a 10 inch incision. It's been five weeks so there's still swelling and I have numbness, too, so I'm glad to hear that's not unusual. I think the swelling will still shrink some, but I'm pretty…

I just thought of something that might be helpful. I've dieted and tried starving myself over the years. This time I'm still eating most of the things I like, but I've cut my portions (sometimes in half). If I go out to eat, I always bring half of everything home and have it for a second meal the next day. I serve what I…

Dark, leafy greens are also a good source of iron if you're not interested in upping your red meat consumption.

Hi! I'm fairly new, too, and this site is really helping keep me motivated - good luck and hang in there!

Almost five weeks ago I had a $17,000 hysterectomy. I cannot believe how tough the recover has been. And I was relatively fit going into it. I don't want to feel that helpless or that vulnerable again. I was so weak. I hated it. It has motivated me to try to never have to have any kind of surgery again.

Hello all. Not much to stay. Slow and steady wins the race, I guess.

Congrats on the weight loss. I've been ample above the waist, but when I lose pounds, that's where they come off first.

You can be beautiful at any size.

If you've been sedentary, you may be building some muscles in your legs. Muscle weighs more than fat, so you may be experiencing a net gain - but it's a good "gain" because the added muscle will help to rev up your metabolism. Good work and good luck.

I mix commercial cereals with my homemade granola which is very low fat (made with healthier fat options) and very low in sugar, but packed with fiber. It fills me up better. Sometimes I'll just have the granola by itself, but I prefer mixing with cheerios so I get a double oat punch.

Welcome and congratulations! Keep us informed on your progress and you daughter. Best Wishes.

I had major surgery on Oct 6 and can't work out - it's frustrating me to no end. I'm not gaining anything back yet, but am plateaued for a while. Don't give up - you can get back on track. Show me how it's done for when I can get back to working out in 2.5 weeks.

Hi - I started this year and began by cutting each meal's volume. I didn't give up the food, just the amount I was eating. Then, as I began to see progress it was easier to make healthier choices. You can do this. The other thing I've discovered is homemade soups. That's how I get my veggies. I'm not a fan of vegetables,…
