Here is a trick I do (mental) that helps me the nights before marathon days long runs (when I have to get up at 4 am) I sleep in my running clothes! I like to move as little as possible in the morning until I wake up and it helps if I am already dressed :)

True, don't try anything new on race day but do experiment during your weekly runs. I just ran my 6th marathon in Jan. and I have settled on oatmeal as a great pre-run food. Lots of my running buddies also do some form of oats and/ or whole wheat toast/ banana. I do the powerbar nut naturals on "shorter" runs (6-10 miles)…

I'm a sweater- I am literally sopping wet after my runs in the summer. I can't even do 20 min. without breaking a sweat. Mostly it's a pain having to always wash my hair after I workout.... BTW I am a marathon runner and in pretty good shape, however, I think it's just gentics.

I am running my 5th coming up in Jan. in Houston, I joined Houston Fit ( with USA Fit- a national marathon trianing program) back in 2004 and loved it so much, I became an assistant coach. I always tell people that ANYONE can run a marathon- it is just a matter of setting your mind to it, training right and smart (find a…

BTW- I used to do this as well but that 0 calorie spray really has 25 calories per tsp! It's a marketing ploy- they can get away with claiming 0 calories because of the "serving size" which is something silly like 3 sprays ( I would use like 100....) I still use it but now I just log those calories.

the best ones to fill you up AND stave off cravings are- almonds and walnuts (dry roast) pumpkin seeds soy nuts string cheese low fat cottage cheese or yogurt apple or berries (get the frozen kind- yum!) plain instant oatmeal carrots or any combination of the above. Hope that helps! I hate the mid-day munchies and these…

I had a surprise pregnancy at 38 while I was coaching/ training to run a marathon. I continued eating/ working out pretty much the same as I did before I was pregnant (stopped running at 6 months but kept up cardio on the elliptical and in classes.) I still watched what I ate and exercised 45-65 min. 5 or 6 times a week. I…

sigh....I have tried the Stevia but it has such a weird (bitter?) aftertaste. I'll have to try the agave nectar- I just hate adding those extra calories! Thanks for the thread, though. It is very informative!

HELP!!! I am a huge believer in clean eating (organics, no trans fats or hydrogenated foods, etc.) and I eat a TON of fruits, veggies, nuts and lean proteins like egg whites) My problem is there is NO WAY I could get off of my Diet Coke or my splenda in my oatmeal and plain yogurt! I just have such a hard picturing life…

You should read the "You on A Diet" book by the You Docs......it explains A LOT about our bodies, how they were meant to operate, the foods we are meant to eat, etc....a VERY interesting and informative read.

get them to make you egg whites/ egg beaters....or sub them in a veggie omlette (hold the cheese and meats) . Also grits with NO butter. Oatmeal is also a good option.
