  • I have lost more weight with Weight Watchers than on MFP but it's all about having a good group leader and a group that you click with. Some leaders are good, others don't really get it. I would try your local slimming groups but if you don't click, don't be afraid to try something else or just use MFP.
  • Hello, I like to cook from scratch and will post recipes regularly. I am an omnivore with no particular allergies but cook regularly for gluten and dairy intolerant and vegetarian friends. If you need to balance cooking delicious food for loved ones and keeping the pounds off, please add me so we can share recipe hacks ,…
  • Hi, I'm 54 and about to restart my diet after serious illness. I am taking things step by step and my first goal is to establish a baseline.
  • My afternoon snacks are typically, small banana, three small dates, a few cherry tomatoes topped off with water and coffee
  • I don't know which flavour low carb you're doing but if you're going to be comfortable, I think that you should try and keep it low GI . I'd try to have some protein at every meal - even if it's just a small slice of ham wrapped round a baby sweetcorn and not worry too much about your fruit and veg carbs . Have your fruit…
  • I have my laptop and mini scales in the kitchen and log the ingredients as I go . For most veggies, it doesn't matter if you guess portion size so I just concentrate on getting high calorie ingredients like olive oil right.
  • What about using your egg yolks to make carbonara sauce or zabaglione ? http://www.eattherightstuff.com/blog/2011/2/6/tagliatelle-carbonara.html http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/gratinofblackberries_92432 (with zabalione topping) I think you could use almost any berries if you can't get blackberries which have a very…
  • A bowl of strawberries is delicious and the sugar traces might help stabilise you without throwing too many calories at the problem.. Otherwise, you could make up a big bowl of mixed salad dressed with lemon juice and black pepper and throw in some prawns or chopped ham for flavour. Soup-and -banana is a good lunch standby…
  • OP, I would try to avoid fruit juices and fruit drinks which can easily push you over your sugar level and don't contain dietary fibre. Stay off the dried fruit, too -plenty of fibre but very high in sugar. Two fruit portions a day is generally considered to be a good goal but most diets contain a free calorie allowance…
  • I'm sorry your co-workers are being so negative. Can you take your shakes outside and avoid their negative comments ? Or what about some stealth dieting? I had a branded chicken and sweetcorn soup and a small banana for my lunch which was 280 calories but not so obviously diet food. (The weather is so dreadful that I've…
  • I find MFP works well if I'm cooking from scratch and can check the most important weights and if I log everything as I go. If I'm away from home and have to estimate everything, or can't log in because I'm too busy and am struggling to remember what I had the day before, it's not so good.
  • If you're tired, then you're not sleeping properly . If you're not sleeping properly, then you will find it harder to lose weight.and exercise. And lack of exercise and daylight can make it harder to sleep properly. When you catch up with your mobile phone messages between presentations, could you take a brisk walk outside…
  • It takes a while for your skin to tighten up after dieting . Until that happens, you might look as good as you will in a month or two.
  • The younger you are and the more gradual your weight loss is, the more likely it is that your skin will recover. It also depends on your genes. I don't know anyone who's lost over 5 stone but my two friends who have lost that much say that their skin was back to normal within 6 months. As I've got older, I have noticed…
  • OP, you've mentioned that you've got a mobility disorder. How easy is it for you to shop for food and prepare meals ? Would you be able to get to the shops often enough to have fresh fruit snacks instead of sweets ? This would give you more calories to spend on fresh fish and chicken to get your protein up.
  • Hi, I'm 50 and 5'7". I'm currently 17 st 3 lbs and size 22 /38H on top, size 16 below. Before I was ill and put on so much weight , I was a 16 (32G) on top and 12 below and 12 stone which I was happy with . I do want to get back there but need to diet gently, set micro goals and increase my activity level slowly as I'm…
  • Sounds fabulous
  • Am sorry that you're having a tough time with dieting. Someone will probably shoot me for this but weight loss may not be your number one priority. If you are feeling emotionally low, , make sure you budget some time to do pleasant things with nice people . Improving your mood will give you more oomph to tackle the diet…
  • Feel free to add me as a friend and look at my diary and I'll add you back.
  • I think you'd get a different answer from every vegetarian, vegan or pescatorian. Some people don't like the taste, some people think it's greener ,kinder to animals, have religious issues or are just plain broke. Other people are worried about chemicals and additives in intensively farmed meat and can't afford or get…
  • Hi Jen, Ask the pub to serve the dressing on the side so you can see how much you're adding . Some places really drown their salads. The only other big calorie item is the goat's cheese -you can estimate the portion by eye. Have a great evening.
