  • You do not want drastic changes. You want to go with something you can stick with. I maintain weight at 2,000 calories a day. I would say to aim for that for about 2 weeks. See how you feel and adjust it a little up or down based on that. I think you are right 3,000 a day seems drastic.
  • When I had my first three kids I was a waitress. I never had to worry about my weight and was back into my size 2 jeans within a month. I got a desk job and gained 100 pounds with my twins and just couldn't lose it. MFP has been great for me. It forces me to pay attention to what I am doing and what I am eating. I have to…
  • You cannot lose the fat but you can tone the muscle underneath it. Cardio exercises didn't seem to tone my muscles as much as the ab exercises did. I am willing to assume that the fact the Ab exercises do not burn as many calories as the Cardio ones may play a part in that.
  • I didn't realize how much I was eating until I started tracking my meals with MFP. It is going to seem like it is impossible to make it especially if you have a goal of 1200 Calories a day. If staying under your goal is too stressfull you can raise it a little ( to say lose .5lb a week) until you get the hang of logging…
  • I am 5'3". I started out at 190. I'm currently maintaining at 115-120.
  • Go with three days a week or don't list it at all and see how you feel.
  • You have lost weight. It wouldn't hurt to add 100-200 more calories each day. I try to get my MIL's recipies so I know what I have to work with.
  • I did a Google search for Pressure cooker recipies and found a lot. We have a small one we use for vegetables. The large one we have for canning came with recipies for meat as well. Twice a week I will cook a batch of chicken and store it for work (as long as the kids don't eat it first) Look up Once a month cooking or…
  • I would say you can add about 200 Calories a day and still lose weight. What is your goal?
  • That is definitely not a yes or no question. Who-what-when-where-why-how OK... What are your settings? Usually if you tell MFP you are sedentary and want to lose 2lb a week it gives you 1200 calories a day. The plan is for you to eat the 1200 plus your exercise calories and you end up with a deficit..... and lose weight.…
  • Only weigh yourself naked - right after you get up & pee - once a month two days after your period ends. No seriously, Same time, same clothes, same day each month. Don't weigh yourself after you exercise. Muscles retain water to heal themselves so you will actually "gain" a couple of pounds. Don't weigh yourself after…
  • Some things to think aboout.... When was your last period? I gain 5 pounds each month bloating. How much of it is water retention- or lack thereof? When did you start bulking? The same time you started MFP? It took me two months to find the perfect number to maintain. Like many people said..... increase your calories a…
  • I work the midnight shift and tend to be under quite a bit. I eat more on the weekends because I'm up all day. I was sick yesterday so I was 500 calories under so I just added them to today. ( Quick count Calories -500)
  • I do it on a regular basis especially when I know I have a party or something coming up that I'll want to "splurge" on. Just leave a note in your comments section of the log so you know how much you have to work with. I also log my meals for work when I pack my bag and anything I don't eat gets put in a container just in…
  • Your birthday only comes once a year. You have learned from your mistake which is a huge step in the right direction. I'm willing to bet you will be fine since you have already been planning on a few extra calories for the week. When I go out some place unexpectedly I will check MFP on my phone to see what things are…
  • I fluxuate between 115 and 120. sometimes more during my TOM. I don't worry about it unless it seems to be more than that for more than a week or two.
  • plan something sweet for each day when I buy my meals for the week then I don't have a problem with splurging. Special K Chocolate Cereal Fruit Dark Chocolate covered Pretzels mixed with dried fruit, sunflower seeds or nuts I keep sugar free candies to suck on like cough drops as needed. Flavored drinks. Soak fresh fruit…
  • It depends on what your Activity level is set at and how much you have to lose. If you told MFP you are "Active" or "Very Active" MFP figures you will burn 400 Calories a day or more. ( Then do not eat the Calories back) If you said "sedentary" MFP thinks you sit on your tush all day and doesn't even factor in cooking or…
  • A- Don't log it because it is easier and it gives you bonus Calories in case you underestimate your food one day. B- use Endmondo or Runkeeper to track how far you went in the ammount of time and log it as .5mph faster than you actually went. That ought to come close to the extra calorie burn. OR C- log it as Hiking.…
  • Welcome to MFP. I'm Jenny. I've been usinf MFP for about 1.5 years. Take a week to log what you normally eat before making any huge changes- especially if MFP only gave you 1200 Calories a day. I went through and made a list of the things that were most important for me to hit. I have always had low Iron so I have to focus…
  • That sounds an awful lot like ADHD. It runs in my family. I drive the others at work crazy constantly pacing at my machine. I can see the extea 200 caqlories the pedomoter shows, but 900?? WOW
  • END QUOTE How do you fit into this study? You have lost 47 pounds in three months. If you stop exercising and start eating like you did before you started MFP you would gain the weight back. Two plus two equals four. If you eat more calories than you burn you will gain weight. SOME people have physical conditions that make…
  • According to http://caloriecount.about.com/ A 150lb person would burn 88 calories reading while sitting. They would burn 122 reading while standing. This one says it is almost the same... http://www.health.harvard.edu/newsweek/Calories-burned-in-30-minutes-of-leisure-and-routine-activities.htm Popular belief is that it…
  • You keep saying the same thing and we keep saying the same other thing and even though I know you made this thread to get a rise out of us, I'm just going to say: We've read these forums. Some of us for many many years. If you think you can use any group of related posts to confirm or deny any of your claims, well good…
  • The person that keeps active. Ignorant people that are active can be lucky enough to burn off the calories they overeat, but the average person can still gain weight eating the "right" number of calories if they spend all day on the couch.
  • Isn't MFP based on the principal of making people change their behavior? Counting Calories requires a deliberate planned action. Daily practice makes it automatic after a while. Would that make MFP unethical?
  • It depends on what you are doing. Weightlifting exercises and Toning is suggested to have one rest day between exercises- so you would do arms one day and legs the next. The 30 day challenges work out 3 days and rest on the fourth. The run to walk challenges say to do it 3 or 4 days a week but no more than 2 days in a row.…
  • Some physical traits are inherited. Big bones and such. There are some diseases that are inherited that hinder peoples ability to metabolize fat. Thyroid problems and such. Heart issuea run in my family. Most of them were overweight and had other issues. They also liked fatty meat and drank a lot of cola.---- not attacking…
  • Is the 1300-1400 calories a day before or after exercise? You need to eat back all of your calories when eating so little. When I started out I was 195 pounds. I was eating an average of 1800 to 1900 calories a day AFTER exercise. I lost an average of 2lb a week.
  • I don't get the whole TDEE thing. I told MFP I was Sedentary. It gave me 1200 Calories a day. I weighed 190 pounds when I started. I averaged 2lb a week the first 40 pounds I lost or so. It slowed down then I increased the Calories for Thanksgiving and Christmas to around a pound a week. The experts do not recommend eating…
