  • I tried that and it made things worse...
  • Well I said that I wasn't going to take sides and it started a huge heated argument. Now my dad is telling me that he will "never say he's proud of me again" and putting me down because he denies saying anything mean to her. And now he's saying I'm going to get shot, etc. out there on my own because I stood up and said I…
  • Yes, I am partially dependent on both of them. What makes it the most difficult is college because it's so expensive, but I have enough money to work that out for awhile. I've made it clear to her that I'm not playing the blame game and that I just want the fighting to stop because I love both of them.
  • Thanks for your advice. I've mentioned couples therapy and neither of them seem interested.
  • Do you do any resistance training? Any particular reason why you only jog? Your diet is most likely the reason why you aren't losing weight. Since you just started tracking this week, give it some time. I would also encourage you to add some form of resistance training into your exercise regimen. How often do you do…
  • I tried kiwi a few months ago and fell in love with it. I just peeled it, cut it in half, and ate it like that. I've been buying kiwi nonstop ever since.
  • This also. If you only do it for two weeks, and then start eating the same foods again, wouldn't you in essence be putting the same "bad foods" back into your diet that you just did a cleanse to get rid of? It's just not realistic or necessary.
  • Then eat less processed foods. However, there's no need to deprive your self of food you like or cut out any specific food groups to do it. Just stay within your goals and introduce whole foods into your diet. There's no reason you can't have wheat/sugar/dairy/alcohol as long as you stay within your macro and calorie goals.
  • I haven't done any "cleanse" because I personally believe they are a waste of time. Proper nutrition, water, and exercise will cleanse your system. I don't think there is any need for a "don't eat this or that for x amount of time" type of approach because it's not at all necessary. Or realistic. Just my opinion.
  • Moderation is key. :flowerforyou:
  • Hmm. Good question. I guess it depends on how much you use it. We have a treadmill and it hasn't caused our electric bill to rise much. We don't really use it that much anymore since we go to a gym now, but when we used it a lot, it didn't seem to cause much of an increase. ETA: What type of elliptical are you looking at…
  • You didn't gain 4 lbs of fat. Your weight can fluctuate 5 pounds in a day, due entirely to water retention. As everyone else stated, you're probably retaining water. Weigh yourself again in a week or so. I had to limit myself to one weigh in per week because the scale drives me crazy.
  • Eat a whopper with cheese. That's always the answer.
  • Well, yes, sodium causes water retention. It also increases blood pressure. If you keep track of your sodium intake you should have minimal issues with either, unless you're super sensitive to sodium. There are many foods labeled "healthier" (such as Lean Cuisines and other frozen meals) that contain MUCH higher levels of…
  • How about ice cream and whipped cream? :smokin: :drinker:
  • Does it hurt or feel tender or anything? I would definitely go see a doctor if so. Otherwise I'm really not sure what to tell you.
  • You can't spot reduce, so when you lose weight, it's going to come from all over your body rather than one specific area. Generally you will lose inches everywhere. Exercise is wonderful, but your diet is most important.
  • You won't build muscle in a calorie deficit. It's impossible. I am currently in Level 2 of 30DS and it's definitely a great workout, but intense. In order to lose weight, you need to be in a calorie deficit. You will lose weight in a deficit regardless of whether you work out or not. Exercise speeds up the weight loss…
  • They have towel services too and special deals on massages for members. I got a 20% discount because I'm a college student and that discount lasts until I'm 22. They sell HRM's there too, but I already have one and a yoga mat, so I think I'm pretty well prepared in advance. Now I just have to buy a speedo
  • I got a Polar FT4 and I love it. I got it for $60 off Amazon.
  • You should see your doctor before you begin anything.
  • The issue has nothing to do with you being blunt. The issue has to do with the fact that you're attempting to tell everyone what they should or shouldn't be eating. Most of us here have done our research and know the ins and outs. This is a place to encourage people and give them advice if they ask for it. Giving advice is…
  • Yet you admit that your cooking is your downfall...okay. While I do agree that whole foods are better than processed (which is common sense), I've never been told by any doctor or nutritionist to limit whole grains. In fact, I've heard from a little birdy that whole grains are good for ya! Also, there's nothing wrong with…
  • You look awesome! And your hourglass figure makes me jealous. :flowerforyou:
  • This is absolutely terrible advice. Eat if you're hungry, OP, but don't turn to sleeping aids to keep yourself from eating. That's not a cycle you want to get into. Eat dinner, work out again if you want to, and wipe the slate clean. Don't beat yourself up over it, tomorrow is a new day.
  • You can't gain muscle at a calorie deficit. It's impossible. You can't spot reduce. The only way you could gain muscle is if you were eating at a surplus. When you're losing weight, eat adequate protein and do resistance training (bodyweight exercises such as planks, mountain climbers, etc. are wonderful if you're…
  • Start lifting weights! Body weight exercises are wonderful for starting out as well. In order to really change your body composition, you will need to put on muscle mass. You can't gain muscle in a deficit. A deficit combined with exercise will shed fat and allow you to see muscle underneath, but will not create muscle.…
  • She doesn't want me to do it because she is afraid I will develop an eating disorder. I told her that everyone's different...some people like DVD's, some don't...but millions of people have done Insanity and do not have eating disorders...so she responds with, "well, ok. I give up. I'll let you know if I think you're…
  • Thank you. I guess that's the way I have to look at it. If she doesn't like it then tough...it's my health and my body.
