  • I agree that walking is great exercise. I walk my dogs every day (rain or shine) for an hour and get a great calorie burn. That said, I'm also a huge believer in strength training, especially for women. If you want to lose weight, yep, it can be done by walking and watching what you eat. Add strength training 3 days/week…
  • I eat well over 35 grams/day because I've been horribly irregular most of my life. Just make sure you get PLENTY of water during the day as well...

  • I lost 19 lbs. in my first round...truly, it's ALL about the nutrition.
  • It combines two at home fitness programs...ChaLean Extreme (which is basically a strength training program with 2 days of cardio) and Turbo Fire, a cardio/HiiT program. Chalene Johnson, who created both, created a 20 week schedule combining workouts from both programs...I'm pretty excited as I like to change things up…
  • I find that 40% carbs, 35% proteins and 25% fats is a good breakdown for me. If I try to up the protein more and lower the carbs, I find have horrible cravings and tend to bonk in workouts from time to time.
  • This may not be what you're looking for, but I think the key is how you grip your dumbbells. I would wear gloves (which make holding the weights easier), and try to hold the weight loosely. When I do overhead should presses, I even try to just keep the weight balanced in my hand with my fingers open to keep the tension out…
  • My general rule of thumb is if it's above my neck (i.e. sinus congestion, scratchy throat), I still workout, though I may not push as hard as normal. If it's below my neck (i.e. chest congestion), I rest and allow my body the time it needs to recover from illness.
  • I do believe what you're describing is a diaphragm spasm. Hurts REALLY badly, doesn't it? One thing that I've found that helps is called a diaphragm release: 1. Make your left hand into a fist. Cover the left fist with your right hand. 2. Place both hands (in the covered fist) directly under the notch in your sternum. 3.…
  • You can only purchase Shakeology in the U.S. and Canada right now...sorry. That said, I LOVE IT! I drink it daily as either a morning or afternoon snack and have noticed: 1. Increased energy without caffeine (and I notice a definite drop in energy in the days I don't drink it) 2. Improved digestive health! This may be TMI,…
  • I'll 2nd what BR said above...use the chair. I used resistance bands during my first round of Lean 1/3 of the way through my 2nd round of Doubles, but REALLY wanted to be able to do an unassisted pull-up. Use the least amount of pressure on your foot on the way up so you're working those back muscles, but then do a…
  • To figure out your caloric deficit, you first need to determine your caloric needs. To start, determine your RMR (resting metabolic rate) which is weight X 10. So, if you weight 143 lbs, your RMR would be 1,430 calories your body needs to survive. These numbers are general, so could be tweaked a smidge. Then, you need to…
  • I've done the Hiit15, Hiit 20, Fire 55 EZ (NOT easy), Fire 30 and Fire 45 (new to class) workouts so far. I burn, on average, about: 175 calories with Hiit 15 185 calories with Hiit 20 (I find the 20 easier than the 15) 690 calories with Fire 55 EZ 425 with Fire 30 615 with Fire 45 (using the new to class option) That…
  • I think you explained it yourself when you said your "Cheap watch calorie tracker thing." It sounds as though you don't trust your tracking watch...and if you did walk at a serious pace for 3 miles, your calorie burn should've been higher than your watch showed. I walk my dogs brisky for 20 minutes each...I have 3 dogs. I…
  • I haven't used the product you're asking about, but I think the key with ANY 'drink' that supposedly promotes weight loss is that you have to work calories in versus calories out. If you just 'drink' the drink with no thoughts regarding the other foods you put into your body, you're probably not going to get the results…
  • I read a study somewhere (just need to find it) that said that while cycling your metabolism surges a bit. Many women burn an additional 200-300 calories per day...this could easily explain the ravenous feelings...
  • My experience isn't from Dannon yogurt but another product I drink called Shakeology. Same effect (which, by the way is JOYOUS for those of us who suffered from irregularity for years and years). That said, you might appreciate a blog post I wrote last month called "#2 is #1!!!" http://personalsweatequity.blogspot.com
  • It looks as though you've already made a decision, but I wanted to add that ChaLean Extreme is a FANTASTIC program. I love how the strength training workouts change from month to month, and the cardio workouts are really good. Everything in the cardio workouts are modifiable, so those modifications are always a possibility…
  • For home fitness work (strength training, cardio, etc.) I wear Saucony Grid Virtue's...it's Saucony's 'trainer.' For walking and the tiny bit of jogging I do, I wear Asics. I'm rather wide in the toe box, so Saucony and Asics fit me best. I LOVE the Grid Virtue shoes. They're incredibly light, offer fantastic lateral…
  • lift weights 3 days/week. You've got to build muscle to burn fat.

  • Just curious...did you create your own hybrid schedule with P90X or are you lightly following the CLX/TF that she included in the fitness guide? I'm just curious...wondering how you determined which exercises to put where...curious minds, you know? I'm starting the 20 weeks next Saturday (I think the 10th??) and want to…
  • Turbo Fire!!! OMG...it ROCKS! It combines Fire workouts (longer, kickboxing type workouts with high intensity HiiT fire drills) and shorter HiiT workouts. Plus, Chalene Johnson ROCKS. Message me if you want additional info. I have a preview video I could send you.
  • Why not make your own? That way you know EVERY ingredient that's in them, and you can 'customize' them to your caloric needs. Message me if you want a good, 'basic' recipe.
  • And whatever you do....DO NOT SKIP YOGA! Seriously, 90% of P90X users always want to replace yoga with another workout. DON'T do it! Yoga is hard. Period. At least make yourself do the first 45 minutes. It's the hard part, but it's the part that is going to create strength in all of those 'connective' muscles that you…
  • ChaLean Extreme...3 days/week of strength training, 2 days of cardio (though one of the cardio days is an interval workout...cardio and light weights for muscle endurance). LOVE IT! I've also done P90X (3 rounds), but I find the strength training moves in ChaLean Extreme to be more designed with women's problem areas in…
  • LOVE, LOVE, LOVE ChaLean Extreme! It is easily modifiable, and you truly do need to lift weights to lose weight. I run an after school 'fitness group' for my fellow teachers and use the two cardio workouts regularly. Even our most unathletic exercisers can modify the moves and still get a great workout.
  • I'll be honest...drinking the gallon jug of the Colase (the prep drink) was the worst part of the Colonoscopy. The exam 'exam' was a walk in the park. I tried all kinds of 'formats' for getting the drink down...big glass, held my nose, chug a lug....then I switched to shot glasses...I only managed to get 2/3 of it down…
  • Gabby Reece (pro volleyball player, fitness model, etc.) has a lot of really good instructional photo montages on her fitness website www.thehoneyline.com
  • I did a round of Insanity in January and February of this year. I always workout in my office space (probably a 6x9 foot space) on carpet and I had zero problems on the carpeted floors. There's a lot of side to side drills, but no pivoting type drills that could tweak the knees if your shoes don't pivot well on carpet. I'd…
  • I LOVE PB2. The chocolate PB2 is really good, too. Plus, at 45 calories/serving, and 6 grams of fat, it's win-win!! I used to have to ban peanut butter from my house. It's not as 'rich' as regular peanut butter, but if you're a PB junkie, this will certainly help.
  • I found the 30-day shred workouts to be rather boring after the first week. That's one of the nice things about P90X...daily variety. That said, the time commitment for P90X is huge. Have you ever considered ChaLean Extreme? I've done 3 rounds of P90X myself, and am currently on my last week of ChaLean Extreme and I found…
