  • Good luck with your goal. Stay focused and you will hit it faster than you would have thought possible. I've done an 18 month calorie deficit in the past and burned over a hundred pounds off. I gained some back during my wife's pregnancy / newborn care and am back on the deficit. This time around I'm using intermittent…
  • I had an armband heart monitor (Scosche Rythym) I liked until I lost it. It connected to my android via bluetooth and monitored heartrate while exercising. Since that I've just used an app called RunKeeper. It's GPS based and tracks my speed and movement and does a good job with calorie estimates. If you run or walk…
  • This probably varies quite a bit person by person due to health, age, gender, etc. The health of someone "over 200 lbs in weight" would be quite different between me (6' 4" man) and my wife (5' 5" woman). I should be about 200-210, she should not be. I started running at 285lbs (which did make my ankles and knees sore) but…
  • I think if I strike out on a seat I'll end up looking for one of those. They make the bike quite long though, and I'm not sure she's physical up for holding on, balancing, and pedaling that long yet.
  • (to emsmom) By Wee Ride do you mean the one in the Amazon link I pasted? If so, how tall is your daughter?
  • I've heard that about Chipotle but never about QDoba. On the QDoba website there is a box to check that filters out non-vegetarian stuff. The pinto beans remain even after checking the box, so either they don't know what vegetarian means, or the bacon thing isn't true. Either way, I haven't got them in years. Gross!
  • RE: Qdoba, It looks like the less than 700 calorie requirement can be met pretty easily as long as I avoid Shredded Cheese, Sour Cream, Guacamole. Sweet! Whole wheat tortilla brown rice black beans (or pinto) Pico de galla Extra hot salsa lettuce grilled vegetables Calories: 665, Calories from Fat: 105, Protein: 26g,…
  • I think I've built a reasonable Pita Pit Pita that fits the bill: Wheat Pita Spicy Black Bean Hummus Cucumbers Green Peppers Lettuce Red Onions Tomatoes Alfalfa Sprouts Tzatziki Feta Cheese Unsweet Tea or Coke Zero 495 Calories, 25g Protein, 14g Fiber Option of Baked Lay's potato chips for another 130 cal. That's not bad…
  • What do you get at QDoba? I think the veggie burrito is like 1000 calories. Pita Pit is nearby... I forgot about that place. I like it but have trouble with enough protein. What do you get there? Thanks!
  • We get Pure Protein bars in bulk from Costco. They taste decent and are pretty high in protein/calorie ratio. Not too pricey in bulk too.
  • I'm not much into breakfast so this will sound boring to most people... On days where I don't plan to be very active I have: 4oz 1% milk 1/2 of a banana On semi active days I'll have: 8 oz 1% milk (half in the cereal, half in a glass) 31g of Special K Original A sliced banana A sliced strawberry On very active days I add…
  • I'd want.... A long sleeve, blue climalite shirt with the myfitnesspal logo either across the chest or smaller and to the side of the chest. Repeat of above, but short sleeve. Water bottle with logo. Sweat bands with logo. Baseball cap with logo. Pens/pencils/etc. Pretty much stuff to wear when out running, walking, going…
  • Where did you get it?
  • Eh... that's too much effort, and the money wouldn't be going to MFP. Oh well.
  • I think you kind of blew that one.... you need to use the digits (10) rather than spell out the word ten. The joke is... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary, and those who don't. This is only funny because 10 is binary for 2. Unless this is a 'woosh' moment for me and the pickup line is…
  • {meant to reply to other post}
  • I can't help with anything UK specific, but my wife and I have managed to build up quite an effective weight-lifting room in a rather small basement room. The room contains: Rubber horse stall mat from local farm store (much cheaper and more effective than sporting goods store foam tiles) - £25 Simple weight bench (doesn't…
  • We have a pretty tiny room in our basement, but this is what is working for us: Rubber flooring (actually horse stall mats from Tractor Supply). Tougher and cheaper than the interlocking tiles sold at the sporting goods store, and these don't slide around or come apart:…
  • http://www.building-muscle101.com/dumbbell-workout-routine.html I pretty much just google "building muscle 101 dumbbell workout" whenever I need to look at it again. I've made a spreadsheet I printout that tracks each exercises results per week. I printed a dozen sheets and keep them in a binder by my weight bench, which…
  • But that would be harder :) I'll bump up the reps and see how that goes. I know it's sure going to burn, but not as much as $120 for my next pair of dumbbells! Will this continually build muscle? (doing reps until near failure) Thanks for the replies
  • I guess that depends on how valuable having a class to go to for encouragement and accountability is for you. My wife has had great success with Weight Watchers because of the social aspect (driving somewhere and interacting with other people in the same situation) of it. For me, that would do nothing... I just need access…
  • I'm a non meat-eater who is 6'4" and active. I was always under on protein by far but didn't notice any problems until I started some strenth training. I settled on a combo of skim milk, almonds, and protein bars. It sounds like the milk and almonds won't work for you so you'll need to go with something else. I get "Pure…
  • I like to put it on any sandwich... and especially like it on a grilled veggie burger. Lately i've been putting it on a veggie burger with a slice of feta cheese, sprouts, red onion, and garden tomato. Yum! Oh yeah... I also like to cut up cheddar cheese, dip a kettle chip in the hummus, and stick the cheese on top. Yum…
  • I started a dumbbell program based on this: http://www.building-muscle101.com/dumbbell-workout-routine.html I made my own tracking page and have been working through it, MWF. I'm also sticking with basketball Wednesday and Sunday, and hope to run on Tuesday's and Thursdays. Saturday I'll do nothing (other than yardwork /…
  • Thanks for the reply! I just punched that in and it looks like about 750 more calories per day. That seems like a lot these days :) I found a sewing tape measure and will start using that too. I've found a dumbbell workout program to try. I'll give it and the new calorie count a try for a few months and see how it goes.…
  • Originally I posted Potato Chips and Coca Cola. After reading through this thread, I now have the following cravings: Skyline Chili (veggie chili version, half cheese) Tijuana Flats Veggie Burrito with a side of chips and cheese. Jockamo's Pizza - Greek Pizza or Cheese Louise, hold the bacon Alcapulco Joe's - Taco Salad,…
  • Coke and Potato chips. I will open and consume a whole bag or whole can of Pringles in the blink of an eye. I will also down 100+ oz of Coca Cola or Cherry Coke of the waitress keeps refilling my glass.
