LOL. I totally get that. We actually had a party when we (hubby and I) hit the "overweight" mark. People who didn't get it, thought us odd, but it is an enormous milestone. Congratulations!

After answer this question a few times, I added a blog post that might help you out: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/TrainerRobin/view/beating-your-plateau-some-tips-for-success-99882 Good luck to you!! :drinker:

Don't give up on the fresh fruits and veggies. You'll get the hang of it and it'll be just as easy. Here are some tips: 1) Try the site caloriegallery.com. Here, you can measure in grams or ounces and although they don't have every food on there, they are solid on fresh fruits and veggie and their numbers are more accurate…

And that app's competition also rocks -- it's called Cardio Trainer and I love, love, love it. Tracks calories for me super close to my $400 GPS HRM. And I like that I can pick the accent and gender of the "coach" ... I chose an Australian man. LOL It's free and is amazing Android app. Sorry -- not for the iphone. Yet.

LOL. Yup. One piece of advice -- ease into any increase in fiber. What you experienced happens to most of us if we're transitioning from a low fiber diet to one that's high in fiber, in a short period of time. Keep it up ... it'll get better and you'll suffer no ill effects. :) For another high fiber (and high protein…

It always amazes me when folks are so opposed to tracking calories. When we want our vehicles to last a long time, we don't just toss any amount of oil into them. We pay attention to how much oil we add during an oil change, and limit it to the "prescribed" amount. When we want to stay fiscally sound, we track our deposits…

I'm like you -- my runs are soooooo much better if I've eaten a little something. Usually a half of a Nature's Grain (high protein, high fiber, low carb) bagel with a schmere of PB2 on it, and a cup of coffee. With that fuel in my tank, my runs are dramatically better than they are on "empty." The trick is paying attention…

Y'all just made my day. Really. I'm so impressed that you all knew that the old "don't eat at night" wive's tale has been thoroughly disproven. Way to go. I love an educated group of people. Y'all rock!

One friend, who is tiny, criticized it a lot until I told her that I didn't HAVE to track my food -- I could just go back to estimating things like I was doing when I gained about a hundred pounds. I straight out addressed it with her --telling her that with my thyroid disorder, I just don't have a margin of error anymore…

The digital food scale is your friend. For more on why I ditched the cups and embrace the digital kitchen scale, read my blog post on this subject: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/TrainerRobin/view/measuring-versus-weighing-your-food-63132

I get where she's coming from. She's wanting you to develop healthy habits that'll become your lifestyle and going at it that hard can be counterproductive in terms of body composition (losing too much lean muscle mass) and in terms of something that's hard to maintain for life. You'll (generally) want to aim to lose a…

You so didn't fail. Just count the chips and move on ... now. Not tomorrow, not next Monday. That's it. We're not super strong. We just have perspective and keep moving forward. :) You'll be fine. :)

You nailed it. It's very hard to find information from the various manufacturers,or for that matter, even a good comparison of the different HRMs on the market. If you ever find that, let me know! :)

1. See your doctor to rule out any problems. 2. Get fitted at a top-notch running shoe store (many now use treadmill video taping techniques). This can make a world of difference. 3. Consult a running coach (they'll have a list of them at a good running shoe store) to get help with your form. It can make a huge difference,…

Just buy a good, simple cookbook with inspiring pictures AND nutritional data at the end of each recipe. If you can read, you can cook. Just be sure to read the entire recipe first, then go back and start your new meal. You can cook beautiful, healthful foods that will impress your hubby ... and everyone else! Go for it,…

Exactly. But notice what he said: HRMs will NOT accurately tell you what you burned all day long. They are intended for cardio workouts only (e.g., 70% of your MHR or higher). Also, even if your HR is within this range, if you're doing non-cardio work (e.g., lifting weights ... with few exceptions), the calorie burn number…

Sorry that this is going to make me sound like the lawyer I am, but the real answer is "it depends." It depends upon the heart rate monitor you are using. In this competitive field (especially when you add in the GPS HRMs coming onto the market), different manufacturers/monitors are using different methods of calculating…

Chocolate cake with white frosting (you know the kind ... from the local bakery, with a pile of colored flowers piled on top). So bad for me, but if that stuff was calorie free .... LOL

Oh, don't misunderstand. This isn't one of those things that I'm concerned with on a practical basis. It's just one of those issues that I've never found good research on and would love to! :) And I know that most folks on here won't have anything other than personal opinions on the issue, but there are so really…

Welcome to my world! :) LOL Yes, there is a HUGE difference between outdoors and the treadmill. The biggest being that on our treadmills, the motor is propelling the belt and all we have to do is keep up. Have you ever tried a treadmill without the motor? LOL Crazy how it's so much more work. And when we're outside, we…

This may be true. But the frustrating thing is that there are so many things, within the fitness/weight loss world, where fact contradicts common sense. Thus my search for something to substantiate what seems to be logical. I'm kind of a geek that way. I like answers that are based on research and sound analysis! :)

Either of them will do. The best will be whatever you will actually use most often. Personally, I make do (at home) with a yoga mat, a set of dumbbells (5, 8, 10, 12 and 20), a balance ball, a weighted exercise ball, and a chin up bar. If you have that little "tool kit" and you google "body weight" workouts or exercises,…

I have tried them, in both of their shapes, and used the recipes on the packages which I thought were good (well, okay but a good deal for the calories). The fettucini alfredo was okay -- my sister thought it was "ucky." LOL Hubby didn't really like it either. My daughter thought it was okay. The pasta has a bit of a…

I see a lot of processed foods. And while I acknowledge that a calorie is a calorie, I suspect that you might do much better if you clean your diet up. If you're up for an "experiment" to test this theory, consider trying ONE week of clean eating. Something like this. And then let me know how it goes and if it makes a…

This one is easy! Ask him. :) He'll know. We're trained to know these things -- and you pay us for it. Just ask and he should be able to give you a pretty darned close number. :drinker:

I love my chocolate shakes that FILL my blender (yep, all of that in ONE serving!). My "daily" favorite is: 1 box of EAS chocolate shake 1.5 servings of PB2 1 T of Hershey's special DARK cocoa powder 1/2 cup of nonfat milk Sweetener to taste ice to thicken in the blender YUMMY. Nutritious. About 220 calories. Filling.…

Almost always true. The only exception I've found is with older client's. I've found, through measuring their body fat over time, some of them shrink from the dreaded loss of muscle tissue. That's just one more reason that I always encourage folks to find a way to accurately measure their body fat percentage and make that…

Agree completely. I buy the Ranch dressing mix in the big shaker at Sam's Club and make it with Greek Yogurt (any fat free, plain variety) and then thin it with fat free milk till it's the dressing consistency I like. Makes it so much more nutritious!

You've got it. Sorry about the lack of clarity. I thought that after I clicked post reply that I didn't make that clear. But you figured it out. I will tell you that I spent an entire day one Saturday trying to figure it all out though. And I found so many spots (even on Google calendar's own site and on Microsoft's…

It took me a little while to figure it out but I got it so that it syncs automatically. I just set my outlook to sync automatically with my google calendar (what the Droid uses) so the instant that I enter something into Outlook, it shows up in my phone's calendar (Google) and vice versa. That was a critical issue for me…
