  • I agree about beating yourself up. Every meal is a new chance to restart. One things - I'd suggest not having all those goodies around to start with. After all, it sounds like your FIL shouldn't be tempted by having them around either, right? Good luck.
  • I am a diabetic, too. I started this journey for real on July 4. So far, I'm down 32 lbs. I have another 32 to lose to get to my goal, which is a BMI in the healthy range. I've been in the obese range for at least 15 years. Feel free to add me. I also post my food diaries in hopes of helping others. Perhaps that will be of…

  • SOOO AWESOME!!! I'm excited for you. I know the feeling. I love to shop at Dress Barn (Isn't that an awful name for a women's clothing store..lol). One side of that store is all Plus sizes, the other regular sizes up to size 16. I was thrilled the weekend to find that most of the plus size stuff was too big for me and I…

  • I'm watching carbs and calories, and trying to do so healthfully. That is, I don't just stay under the numbers eating anything that keeps me in range. I'm trying hard to put a big emphasis on veggie and lean proteins. I've lost about 13 lbs out of 64. Love simple, low carb, low cal recipes and always looking to share. I…
  • We had cauliflower crust pizza tonight topped with sauteed mushrooms, onions and yellow bell peppers, plus baby spinach leaves, sliced tomatoes and mini pepperoni. Dee - li - cious! Hubby loved it. There are lots of cauliflower pizza crust recipes out there. I used this one and would make it again for sure:…
  • We've all been there. Just log it in and plan for next time you visit Mom. Ask her to help you and not have cookies and whatnot out and available. Ask her to put out a pretty bowl of fruit instead. Or make sure you've eaten before you go so that you're not hungry. I agree with the others - "just keep swimming"...
  • Hi honey, listen I'm a diabetic and I feel your pain, but those $%^ sweets are one of the ways we got this way. For me, what's working (I'm 4 weeks in and have lots 11 lbs) is to have something sweet, but not empty sweets. So, here are a couple of ideas. My go to breakfast (but could also be a snack): Any flavor you like…
  • Hi Mark! Congratulations on your fresh start and great first week. I'm on week 4 now and have lost 11 lbs. so far. I feel better, my clothes a bit looser, and though I still have about 50 lbs to go, I'm feeling more motivated than ever. Amazing what a little success can do! Feel free to add me as a friend and I will try to…
  • Oh my young lady! I am so proud of you! You are so very strong.
  • FAN TAS TIC!!!!
  • Hi Natalie, I live in Cary. I walk and swim mostly, but am open to other options. I have about 50 more lbs to lose. Let me know if you want to get together. Vicki
  • Well done! So happy for you and inspired by you.
  • Hi, I've lost about 8 lbs so far and also have another 50 to lose. Feel free to add me. I like to search out easy and good low carb recipes to help in this process.
  • Make sure your room has a mini fridge and a microwave. You might have to pay a little extra for it, but it really helps. Keep some lite Greek yogurt and berries in the fridge for a quick breakfast. Saves $ too. Hey, can anyone tell me how post a new topic? The Help screen says to click on New Top under Community, but there…
  • Wow! I'd love to have you as a friend on this site, as I'm 57 and looking for inspiration!
  • We are all kindred spirits and have felt the same way. Make a list of all of the good reasons to stick with this. Then make a list of the reasons to quit. At the bottom of each, write how you will feel if you make it through week 1, week 2, etc. Then keep a diary with a short entry each day. It sounds to me like your…
  • I'm all about old school, so almost anything by Michael Jackson gets me movin'! Good luck.
  • In just 7 months? That's fantastic. You look beautiful and that's in workout stuff! Congrats!!!
  • I like variety, but most work days I have a Dannon Fit and Fresh 80 cal Greek yogurt w/ 1 c berries, 2 T chopped walnuts or pecans, and dash of cinnamon. If I get hungry before lunch, I love a couple of celery stalks with Laughing Cow light cheese in a savory flavor or half and apple w/ Laughing Cow light cinnamon flavor.
  • One step at a time - that's the way! From a fellow survivor - 9.5 years. Thanks be to God. Keep the faith.
  • Hi Karen, Vicki here. You can do it, Karen! Love your enthusiasm. I'm "relaunching" and I've used this site a few years ago to lose almost 40 lbs. Found 32 of them again over a 3 year period, so I'm back at it and this time I want to make this a lifestyle change.
  • Depression can do some strange things to your head and does a terrible number on your "self talk". I think if I were you, I'd definitely seem someone you can talk to for awhile. As for food, here is one thing that has helped me back away from the sugar: Walmart has this great little Hamilton Beach drink blender. I think it…
  • vegetables! Make yourself a yummy stir fry. Just skip adding meat if you are topped out on protein. Go for the filling nature of the veggies. Drink water with it. Here is one of my fav recipes: Slice a tomato or two in thick slices, put the slices on a foil lined baking sheet. Put them under the broiler until they just…
  • One last week - my co-worker came in and said "Here's the person everyone is talking about" I thought I'd done something wrong and then she said "Everyone is saying how great you look and you've inspired a couple of folks to get moving, too." Today - I put on a bathing suit I haven't been able to wear for a few years and…
  • I'm 55 and was told in early May that I had "crossed the line" on my A1C and am a diabetic. But I'm not giving in to that without a fight. I've tried and lost weight many times, but this is war! Nearly everyone on my family older than I am (including my older brother and sister) have diabetes, as did my Mom and Grandma.…
