I used to do Squats and DL's barefooted and cleans with nike frees. Now, I use OLY shoes for all three.

love the hook grip! 2.75 times body weight 4 times but I cant maintain it if I'm doing a high rep workout. I'll usually start out hook grip and switch to mixed if my thumbs feel like they're going to fall off ya i guess straps if you truly need it but i find straps and belts not a true measurement of what a person can lift

its the "squishiness" and instability of the shoe that makes a difference. I used to do squats and deadlifts barefooted till I bought OLY shoes, either way works

Avoid the top of the knee bruising by letting the bar ride your thigh down till mid thigh then pull knees back quickly and let the bar drop. Although, if you are one that does not reset after each rep then this may not apply
