  • This exactly! The sleeve felt more natural to me. There are pros and cons to each of them. But the lifelong restriction I have with the sleeve and lack of long term medical restrictions (by pass patients can never have certain meds and things like stomach scopes for testing) along with what's above are why I decided to go…
  • That was part of the conversation I had with the husband prior to signing up for WLS. I point blank told him that if he couldn't or wouldn't stop sabotaging me, I wouldn't do the surgery because I would fail. He understood and stopped. Four years later and he's still very supportive and does not sabotage or enable. I know…
  • I've been in counseling on and off through the years. Some counselors I liked, some I didn't. Those I didn't like also didn't last long. Your mental health is important, too important to waste your time with someone you don't connect with. My advice? Go back to your surgeon's office and ask for a referral to a counselor…
  • Shoes! That's been my biggest issue. I have bone spurs in both heals so have been wearing Dansko and Birkenstocks for years. Expensive shoes for sure and with the weight loss they all got too wide. I'm still a size 10 or 11 depending on style, but my feet are now skinny. Most of the Birks and all of the Danskos do not…

  • Interesting grim_traveler. I've been stuck for almost a year now, so maybe I'm done losing. If so, it will be interesting to see if this becomes true for me! Hmmmm.
  • [/quote]I think this may have something to do with the fact that almost no one seems to be ever happy with themselves. Everyone thinks that losing weight will make them like themselves, that they will be happy as soon as they get to a certain size or weight. But when they get close, they are still not happy (because maybe…
  • You are doing great! I was just a bit heavier at start, 386. Use every bit of the "honeymoon" period to lose as much as you can. It gets harder the farther out from surgery you get. Harder, but not impossible.
  • My goal this week is to get the scale moving again. I broke my journey down into smaller goals. The last goal I hit was getting to 225, I hit that about a year ago. I'm still working on getting to 200. I got as far as 222, then bounced up and am still bouncing between 225 and 230. So I'm still pursuing the same goal, get…
  • I tried selling my too big clothing at a garage sale, twice, was not successful. I still donated most of it. It's a good tax write off. As for replacing as we go down, resale shops have become my friend. Clearance racks work and once I got small enough to shop at places like WalMart, that helped too. Because I have to…

  • Good job seeing the issue before it becomes a problem!
  • Really good points. As you know, I'm still working to "get there". I want to get to a point where I am done losing, am comfortable being done losing, and be able to maintain where I'm at. I don't want to spend the rest of my life trying to "get there".
  • My shoulders were always smaller and now that I'm down 164, the collar bones are very prominent. My stomach is flatter, but the overhang is still there. The upper arms look like under inflated balloons and my thighs are much smaller, but still holding a lot of excess skin and flab. They actually undulate when I walk. Even…
  • Yes, mine did. It came back down as I was able to eat more vegtables and I also cut back on red meat. Although red meat has higher protein counts, the cholesterol is higher too.
  • Awesome work to all! Still struggling to get into Onderland myself so I applaud those of you who have done so!!
  • One of my favorite NSVs! I had mine about 4 months out of surgery on the flight home from Alaska. Final plane and was the first time I didn't need an extender. The husband always quietly asked a flight attendant as he knew I was embarrassed. I was so proud to be able to give it back and tell her I didn't need it after all.…
  • Janet, if I remember correctly, we did the full set at 6 months and then a year. Annually since then.

  • Funny! When I was in high school back in the 70's I used to buy men's jeans and cords because that was the only way to get them long enough. Women's pants didn't and still don't have an inseam option. It was either that or "The Tall Girl's Shop" (yes, that was a real store back then) and then everything was too long. I…
  • I have to do full labs once a year for my bariatric yearly check up. Nice thing is they share these with my PCP so I don't have to repeat them for him at my yearly physical.

  • Yes it is! Isn't it amazing what we can do again once we get the extra weight off! That's a great NSV my friend!!

  • I took pretty much anything high protein and ran it through a food processor with some broth. One of my favorites that didn't need to go through the foood processor was noodless lasagna. 1/2 cup Ricotta cheese mixed with one egg, use 1/2 as the base, a little spagetti sauce and mozzerella cheese and then repeat. Bake 30…
  • Great information! Thanks for sharing with us. My doctor's plan for maintenance is to up calories untill you stop losing. Well that's helpful (not) as I've already stopped without even trying to! Anyway, I appreciate your sharing this information and the podcast address. You inspire me to continue to work at this until I…
  • Hi. Exactly what Garber6th said. Losing the 20 some pounds presurgery isn't as hard as I thought it was going to be, but was only a small part of the process. But also like she said, I would do it all again in a heartbeat! WLS was the best thing I have ever done for myself.
  • That's great!!!
  • Because the on-line "friend" seemed way more important, or at least interesting!
  • I have a treadmill and hate it! I can walk in the elevated, enclosed walkway downtown or outside for hours at a variety of paces and inclines, but for some reason the treadmill is really hard for me to walk on and I think it's because it doesn't get totally flat, so I'm always at a slight incline. So my reccomendation…
  • I am 4 years out and have no issues eating out. As someone else here said, we really can eat what we want, it's really about what we choose to eat. If we are going to a "chain" restaurant, I look at the nutritional menu on line and make my choice before I get there. I actually write it down so I don't even have to look at…
  • So sorry for your loss! I agree with everything already said here, so I won't repeat. You've already proven you can hang tough when things are bad. Good job! You will do great.
  • And this is part of why I told family, friends and most of my co-workers before surgery. People see that rapid weight loss and either think really sick or weight loss surgery. No point in being coy about it. Diet and exercise alone just don't have the same rapid results. I also find that telling everyone about my surgery…
  • Me too! Truth is with the right bra you can hide the fact that they just aren't as "full" as they used to be and for me, being late 50's, they were going to do that weight loss or not. But you can't totally hide the excess empty skin on the upper arms. For me, I can't hide it much on the thighs either as they "undulate"…
  • Normal thoughts and feelings. Hang in there and let us all know how it went when you can.
