No snow here! I live Charlotte, NC. It's sunny and in the low 50s. I don't miss the snow. Pretty bummd today because I have officially plateaued. As a result, I sulked and did some emotional eating today. Not good. I think I'm going to eat at maintenance for a while -- whatever that is. I'm going to TRY 1800 calories and…

Yet another thing in common. I have a 3.5 year old :) and a 10 year old stepson. I work out at the gym mostly. Got my long run in! It was pouring down rain til about noon today. I was all psyched to run, but the rain and cold made it hard to get motivated.

Holley you explained it very nicely. I basically TRIED to do what you explained. Also getting my elbows up was important -- so that they literally pointed straight out towards the mirrow. I'd like to come back to this move and work on it some more. I miss it. *sniff sniff*

Yay, 5th workout of Stage 7 in the bag. One more to go! I don't think I'm going to repeat the workouts (there are 6 and you can repeat for a total of 12). As much as I love the moves, I can't stand the high reps. My favorite color used to be purple when I was young. Now, honestly I don't think I have a favorite color. I…

cphaneuf16 - fellow tech writer - cool!! I love that you have a pastry degree too. That sounds like me over the years. I have strayed from tech writing a few times, but always come back to it. I headed down the path to get my MBA and a law degree, but never followed through. I've mostly done software documentation, but…

small word! great thread lcu!! emgel - I have a bunch of friends who practice law in the DC area. OK not a bunch. My best friend from CMU went to American U. Law School and her group of friends all stayed in the area and practice there. My friend used to work at the SEC and now does something with enforcing financial…

jcjs - Carowinds is in my backyard! Actually I used to be able to see it from my work desk (worked in SC); now I work in downtown Charlotte. Beeps - I'm still undecided about what's next. Mostly likely New Rules for Life...but that's not 100%. I'm going to take off from an official program until after my half marathon on…

This is a hard one and honestly, I'm not sure I ever got it right. It hurt my wrists. I read on one of these forums some advice that helped me better get the concept. When holding the bar in the squat position against your collarbone, hold the bar mostly in your fingertips; and when you come back to this position, it's…

To all the Stage 3-ers: more power to ya. I hated that stage!! The A workout was cool, but I did. not. like. the B workout. I'm kind of ready to finish New Rules. Stage 7 is hard and tedious with the zillions of reps. I lifted this morning (6am - woo!) and completed the 4th workout: 2 more to go and I'm DONE (unless I…

I'm so sorry for your loss. I agree with a PP about taking it one day at a time. You need time to grieve. Don't beat yourself up for not jumping into a new health regiment. Maybe just start by doing something very small each day. It might just be coming here for some motivation. It might be giving up a snack or…

Rach - keep doing what you're doing! I know it must be hard watching your friends drop weight like that. But slow and steady wins the race! I did not follow the New Rules calories. I kept mine at 1550 and ate back exercise calories. I lost weight steadily doing that. I'm still figuring out my TDEE. I don't want to believe…

I agree. It's so intense. I usually will run after my workout (on treadmill) and I just couldn't last week. I had no more energy. Good for you for hanging in for round 2!!

I see... Stage 7 calls for Romanian. Maybe I felt it for the first time because I finally upped my weights. That and 4 sets of 15 reps. TOM for me... not motivated to do anything today but eat comfort food and curl up with a good book. Didn't lift. Ate like crap. Oh well... I upped weights a little in Stage 2, but the…

Are straight deadlifts the same as Romanian deadlifts? I did those for the first time last week and talk about a glute/hamstring workout. My hamstrings are still hurting. The lovely scale is back up today, continuing my awesome plateau, but I know in my heart I had a good week: lifted 3 times AND got in an 8-mile long run.…

Love this thread. That is all. :)

I went for it and did my 3rd workout in the same week as 1 and 2! DOMS is much better. You're right. The worst part of the odd numbered workouts are the static lunge rear elevated exercises -- for me. They KILL ME. Everything else I love, but when I get to the last 7 or 8 reps on the last leg of that lunge (no matter what…

I'm 5'2", age 42, and currently 162. Up until about a month ago, I lost steadily at 1550 cals/day and eating my exercise calories back. I have been heavy lifting since Sept. I upped my calories about a month ago and weight loss stalled a bit (up and down)...so jury is still out. I love to eat and feel like I'm hungry a…

5'2", 162, and size 10 jeans. I have always been about one size smaller on the bottom vs. top. I also lift weights.

Cowgirl, LOL - you're right - only 2 sets of squats. But to me, anything lunge-like is working the same muscles. The rear-foot elevated lunge? 60 of those! each leg! I'm not kidding you that my hamstrings are CRAZY sore and very tight. I tried to do some stretching today, but I'm still finding it a bit difficult to walk. I…

NthnButMoonsh - Congrats on finishing! I guess I am alone here, but I'll throw it out there. I started Stage 7 two days ago and I'm so sore I can barely walk. 4 sets of 15. REALLY???? So today I am going to attempt the 2nd workout, but I can't imagine how it will go given that I can barely move. I was sweating and couldn't…

Sounds like a few of us are suffering from DOMS today. I am SERIOUSLY SORE. I can barely walk. Gee, could it be the 60 squats or the 60 deadlifts? Hm, I dunno. I'm really astounded at how I'm feeling. This is worse than Stage 6 and way worse than when I first started Stage 1. But it hurts so good! I'm excited for the…

26 in a row right now. Although I did 4 sets of 15 today at the gym. (yes the "real" kind)

I just compared the reviews of Supercharged to For Life and For Life got slightly better reviews. Beeps, which would you recommend out of the two? The one negative I read about Supercharged was that the workouts can be super long. I'm still not sure what I'll do after. Part of me wants to try something totally different.…

I am intrigued by those minimalist shoes, I will admit. But am not sure if I'm committed enough to running. Just when I thought I was possibly off the hook for the half marathon, my friend emailed me about doing something in May. Me and running is a love/hate thing. I did my first Stage 7 workout today! My arms and legs…

Hope everyone had a great weekend. I was tied up with being onsite at work last week, so didn't get to post much. I got in my final Stage 6 workouts and am ready to start Stage 7 TODAY. EEK!!! I'm a little scared. You can opt for 6 workouts or 12 if you repeat it. I might repeat, since I'm not sure what I want to do after.…

I finally tried on my next to last workout because I was too chicken before then. and the only time I kept above the bar was in the very beginning of the exercise when I was trying to steady myself. so maybe 5 seconds?
-
Yes, its 20 sec to lower yourself. I just finished my 6A workouts. I did 2 real chinups afterward!
-
Great job Cowgirl. I have always refused to call you chubby and now decidedly so. Pat yourself in the back for this amazing accomplishment!!

Maybe that's it. Because I do the SAME thing, BEEPS. I know for me, I will "rebel" from time to time not wanting to feel confined to a diet or I will "celebrate" when I've lost. I have a strange relationship with food that involves a lot of emotional eating. I eat when I'm happy, sad, anxious, etc. Had a tough day…

I think everyone has to do what feels right for him/her. I weigh once a week and it helps me stay on track and see (roughly) how my weight loss is progressing. I refuse to weigh myself every day because -- again this is me -- I would start obsessing over the number, even knowing that weight fluctuates daily. I already…
