  • I am losing motivation to lift today. Work is getting in the way. I should have gone early this morning, but missed my window. Not it will be nearly impossible to go to the gym without losing a 2-hour chunk of work time, which I can't afford. UGH. I'm ready for Stage 6 to be over. Just 3 more workouts. I love that they are…
  • That olympic bar weighs 45 pounds! yes definitely factor it in. :-)
  • I do because of what she said. Plus I love to eat.
  • I didn't like Stage 2 at first. It was so different. Then Stage 3 started and I REALLY didn't like it. Stage 4 was a repeat of Stage 2 and made me realize how much I actually liked Stage 2 exercises and had gotten better at them magically. Keep at it Stage 2-ers!
  • Hi all, just checking in real quick. I have been so out of the loop, mostly lurking. I managed to get to the gym a few times this week, finished two more stage 6 workouts, ran a little, and did some HIIT. Tried to stop the sugar/carb binge that I've been on since November. I'm slowing turning it around. I started New Rules…
  • I am really liking Stage 6, although the workouts are SUPER short: 20-25 minutes. Today I rocked negative chinups! The "10 sets of 2 rep lat pull downs" are crazy, but I did them with 130 lbs today. Booyeah! My scale was UP 3.5 lbs today. WHAT?! Seriously? I have to chalk this up to water retention. I will admit, I *might*…
  • I can't remember my starting weights. I do know I waaaay unerestimated my deadlift. I started with just the Oly bar. I could have probably added 30 lbs to that. I think many of us tend to start too low. I did regular pushups because it's the one thing I can do. I can just do a lot more of them now. I'm naturally stronger…
  • Good morning all, Not much going on here except realizing I *may* have just eaten half of my calories for the day all before 10am. Oops. I will have to do some exercise today. I wanted to do a long run, but it randomly snowed yesterday (I live in Charlotte, NC) and it's too cold (for me). Excuses? Probably... I'm contining…
  • I can't seem to catch up with this thread either. Life got in the way this week, I had a day of emotional eating/no logging, and now I'm back on track. Completed another A workout of Stage 6 yesterday and I have DOMS all over again (pretty bad - like worse than Stage 1). Going to run on the treadmill today for a very quick…
  • Loving the short workouts. But MAN, my arms and legs are killing me. I didn't even hurt this bad after Stage 1. It's weird though because there aren't that many exercises. Anyhoo, excited to get stronger! Elg1982 - congrats for finishing. Onwards and upwards!
  • DO IT. You are more than ready to make your pushups harder! I usually walk near the wall and do mine just so I'm not under people's feet. Sometimes I stay near the cable machine and do them. Depends on what the "combo" of excerises is in the workout. I love the quote "fake it until you make it." SO true.
  • ] I hated stage 2 at first, then grew to like it sort of. Then Stage 3 came and I hated it. Then Stage 4, which was a repeat of 2, made me truly appreciate and like Stage 2. Plus I did it SO much better the second time around. Stage 5 is a repeat of 3 and I still hate it. :-/
  • OK first B workout in the bag. I wish I could get up the energy to lift 3 days a week like I did in the beginning. I might give it a try next week. I feel out of my lifting rhythm. I liked the B workout. I enjoy the dumbbell exercises. And the lunges seemed easy, but guess who's legs are killing her now? I used 20 lbs --…
  • Vicki - I agree that's not "real" weight gain; probably must water retention, so try not to get discouraged. You're doing a fantastic job! LB2LL - lol at "dreadmill" -- I may have to start using that one. I have a love/hate relationship with running. Samantha - wow you are a rockstar! Very inspiring!! I finally completed…
  • This is a great idea. I've done it before and am astounded when my husband and kids gobble them up. But I'm also in the "eat it or starve camp." I serve veggies/protein/carb with every meal and the kids are expected to at least take a few bites. My husband is pretty good about veggies, though, so that makes it easier. Not…
  • Hi. I just started Stage 6 today. It was good. VERY short though. Am I reading this right that we do TEN SETS of lat pulldowns at 2 reps per set? Because I felt like I was hogging the machine (well I was). 60 second rests alone = 10 minutes minimum at the machine! I had no problem doing my negative chin-ups and I was…
  • Hi Ladies, I was a little lazy about reading all the posts from the past few days. But I see Sue is back - welcome back! And some new folks started the program: welcome! I started Stage 6 today!!!! The optional "strength" stage. I was soooo scared of the negative chinup, but I did it just fine! I used the assisted pull-up…
  • Congrats. What an accomplishment. You should be proud!
  • I'm almost done with New Rules -- starting Stage 6 last week. I have lost 20 lbs so far (combo of lifting and eating at a deficit). My shirts are looser; not tighter. I assume what is stated in the book is based on someone who's not overweight. Do not let that deter you from starting this awesome program! I have linebacker…
  • DONE! Here are my ending stats: Workout A DB one-arm snatch 32.5 lb DB single-leg Romanian deadlift 25 lb (each) DB bent over row 115 lb DB single-arm overhead squat 20/35 lb (one day I tried 40 and hurt my back) DB incline bench press 35 lb (each) Plank - 3 sets of 2 minutes each - only did 3 sets once. usually only did 2…
  • I looooove carbs, particularly bread. I ate so much bread and butter today it was nutty. (I had a bit of an emotional eating day). Beeps - congrats on your loss for the month. Sounds like you're doing it right. Are you close to your goal? Rachie - LOL. A clipboard -- I love it! I carry around a pen and notepad and noticed…
  • emgel - what is slow carbing????
  • Lifting: 2-3 Cardio: 2-3 So 4-6 total, depending on what's happening (right now training for a 1/2 marathon, so less lifting, more running, especially when long runs get over 90 min)
  • Eating at night. Correction: eating like a pig at night.
  • Aqua - did you finish? I' have ONE more Stage 5 workout left which I plan to complete Wednesday. Then I will start Stage 6 next Monday. I'm nervous about negative chinups (but excited for pushups again - I can do those!). I will NOT miss: - 2-hour planks - One-arm dumbbell overhead squat - Single-leg Romanian deadlift. -…
  • Last Stage 5 A workout: DONE. Thank you Lord. I want to do some regular lifts again. Regular old deadlifts and regular old squats. I haven't done a barbell squat since Stage 1!!! Will start Stage 6 or 7 next week. Trying to decide if I'm doing Stage 6 or not. Any recommendations yay or nay -- Cowgirl??? I'm scared of the…
  • I started lifting heavy in September following the New Rules of Lifting for Women. I initially lifted 3X/week, for about 40 minutes each time (with a 10 minute warm-up). I didn't do much else and lost weight doing that. In December, I switched to 2X/week lifting and 2-3X/week running with one of those being HIIT. I like to…
  • Great job. Keep it up!! I love New Rules. I'm finishing up Stage 5 this week!
  • Hi all. I can't keep up!! :( I had a terrible week. I went to the gym ONCE and did ONE lifting session. Maybe if a miracle happens I can get there tomorrow and do my 5B workout. I'm so ready to be done with Stage 5. That said, even though I'm not going 3X/week like I used to, I'm still getting stronger! I'm doing 32.5 on…
  • Ok where is everyone. So quiet here. Is it because we LOVE STAGE 5 SO MUCH?!?!?! Yeah... 3 more workouts and I'm done. So who is moving on to Stage 6 vs. skipping Stage 6. I think I'm going to give Stage 6 a try!
