  • YUM. Can't wait to try! This would make a great Tgiving side dish.
  • Stage 3 FAIL today: didn't get up for my early morning workout (in my defense, getting over a cold). Decided to go at lunch time, but didn't have nearly enough time to do the entire workout because I had to pick up my daughter from daycare. Only did 1 set of YTWLs and skipped all of the ab stuff. Was not crazy about this…
  • Sue, don't feel bad. The balance exercises in stage 2 are hard. And the book recommends using light weights for the reverse lunges, so you are fine. I started with heavy weights for that exercise but had to drop them down. I felt better about dropping after I read that part in the book. :-)
  • Great job ladies on Stage 2! I just started Stage 3, but it's lonely over in that thread. :) By superset on the abs, I meant I did all three back-to-back, then rested in between. It made the abs excercises more challenging. One thing I got out of Stage 2 was balance. I was real wobbly at first, but start getting the hang…
  • Hi all! I started Stage 3 today. It was quite a workout, but I felt like I was doing the exercises awkwardly. So my questions: DB Single-Leg Romanian Deadlift -- um... is this just bending forward and lifting your leg up (reminiscent of Stage 2 where you do this, but then row with the DBs?). I felt like I all I was doing…
  • Hm.... I want to do this, but don't know what to focus on. I started Stage 3 today and it's so...different. I can do my planks, but I don't like them, so I really don't want to make that a goal. I'm cool with pushups too, although like a PP mentioned, I haven't done many T pushups. I did them once and felt very self…
  • You can do it April! Don't go TOO low though. Keep pushing yourself. I started most of my weights right where I left off in Stage 1. The only thing I had to go down on was the Cuban Snatch -- way harder than it looks -- and the reverse lunge from a box (form was suffering with heavy weights; also the book suggests a light…
  • I'm not 100%, but I went to the gym anyway. Finished Stage 2. Woo!!! I will take measurements tomorrow, but I am not expecting much; my weight hasn't changed for the past two weeks. I will post my weights/progress stats in the Stage 2 chat thread so as not to bore everyone. I had a love/hate relationship with Stage 2. I…
  • What a great idea. Of course, now that I've eaten practically all of the kids' Halloween candy, it might be too late for that tactic. My eating has been HORRIBLE for like 2 weeks now. I'm very slowly reigning it in. Very slowly -- like 10 pieces of candy last week; down to 5 today. That kind of thing. I've been under the…
  • AprilRenewed - My only advice is GO FOR IT. I think we all get very comfortable in Stage 1. Stage 2 is totally different and that front squat push press is tough, but both workouts will leave you SWEATING. It's so much harder than it looks on paper. I like Holley's advice of taking the rest between sets and someone else…
  • Completed my last A workout in this stage! Final B workout on Wed. I am SO ready to move on. The gym was ridiculously crowded at 6:15 AM (!!!!), so all of the dumbbells were taken except some 20s. So instead of going for 25s for my lunges and step ups, I used 20s. GRRRR.... And yes, I was too nervous to try the barbell…
  • Oh wow!. This is cool, but I will have to think about my weights/reps/sets -- that's a lot of math. LOL!!
  • Sam -- Wow, the destruction is unbelievable. I mean, I seriously cannot believe it. Seeing as how we just moved and I have LOTS of things to give away (purge), I love the idea of giving to the Red Cross. Sending out thoughts and prayers to all of the families affected by this storm.
  • I've lost weight and I'm nearing the end of Stage 2. I think I've lost 7 or 8 lbs since starting. I had been steadily losing before starting New Rules just by changing my diet and walking. My calories are just like Heathers (my age too - lol). That said, I have a lot to lose -- like 30 more pounds. BUT, I look much smaller…
  • Hey Lady :) I have run off and on over the years (picking it back up recently). When I ran track in high school (eons ago), I used to get stitches and could not breathe right. I think it just comes over time, but what everyone else said is true too -- make sure you are hydrated and work on a breathing pattern. When I run…
  • I did another B workout today and it went sooo much better. Still took me 75 minutes, but I did each exercise really well. I'm getting the hang of the reverse lunge from a box -- also I reread the book and it said "choose a light weight." That could have been my problem before; today I chose 10 and 12 lbs instead of 17 and…
  • Happy Happy Birthday Beeps!! #dontknowyourrealname :)
  • Wow, congrats for finishing! That's all. :)
  • Hmm, that's a tough call. I might consider doing a week (or two) of Stage 1 just to see how you are feeling. But then I'd probably move on. What are you instincts telling you?
  • BEEPS - How sweet of your family! (But sorry about your fast.) And I'm willing to wager I ate more candy than you yesterday. I actually tried to log all of it. TRIED. Check my diary. ;) I partly blame yesterday on TOM which hit today. Can't wait to get back to the gym tomorrow morning. Going for a walk with my daughter…
  • I agree with pp about the split squat vs. static lunge. I just posted about this. They are similar moves, but I feel the burn in totally different places (front leg vs. back leg). I am nervous to try the barbell with my step ups! I FINALLY am getting good balance on this exercise. It's gonna throw me way off to hold the…
  • I agree: awesome. I am intersted in doing step ups with the barbell. How/where do you hold it? (Sorry if this has been discussed before; I'm too lazy to search.)

  • I don't think there's any amount of working out that can make up for the junk I'm eating today. I even went on a 18 minute (to be exact - lol) walk/run at lunchtime. After the brownie I mentioned earlier, I MIGHT have had a cupcake and some halloween candy. :blushing: BEEPS - I'm excited to see your stats. Sounds like you…
  • MrsAgi - you are right about the core/balance stuff with Stage 2. My core and my glues are my weakest muscles, it seems. Maybe that's why these workouts kick my butt. Today, I was having trouble completing the last few reps of my reverse lunges. I got them done, but it hurt. I did much better on my 1-pt rows -- and by much…

  • tekne - How annoying. I have never had that experience. I probably wouldn't have just said with a big smile, "thanks, you have a great workout" and walked away. But if he was in my face while I was doing my exercises, I would have been a little meaner and basically told him to go away. funbun - welcome back! Can't stop…
  • Megan that is AWESOME!
  • Yay, more stage 2-ers! I did my second B workout today and a few things still don't feel right: the reverse lunge and the Bulgarian split squat. I gotta read up on these. The squat felt fine the other day, but today I couldn't get my balance right and my back leg felt it (last time my front/working leg felt it). I think…

  • Jennie - my belly is my nemesis too. One day I look forward to not having to suck in my gut. LOL Sounds like you have a good plan going forward. Congrats on doing this program. You're right. It IS long. I am interested to hear about Strong Lifts. CowGirl - good luck with food this week and your new house sounds lovely! I…
  • I feel ya gadenni. Crazy week for me too with moving. Why oh WHY did I not take off yesterday and today???! I took off next Mon and Tues instead. I'm sure I'll be up all night tonight preparing for the movers. But I made it to the gym M/W/F -- ending my first week of Stage 2. WHEW. It's so much tougher than it "reads." I…
  • I aim for 40/30/30, but usually end up getting a weekly average of 24%. I'm losing weight and getting stronger, so I guess I'm OK. I think the macro suggestion in the book is a good guide, but you have to do what works for your body. And that'll probably involve some trial and error.
