gadenni - you had me rolling on the floor with your description of the evil prone jackknives from hell (official term by the way). I actually had to read your post to my husband because it just tickled my funny bone. Perhaps because I have BEEN THERE. I wonder if people are looking at me like "WHAT is she doing?!?!" And…

Good Morning Ladies! Just got back from WOB7 in Stage 1 --- I can SEE the finish line! Jessica - I really hope you can get some sleep. It's so vital to everything. I had a better workout today because I slept well last night. I agree with looking into a sleep study. I did one earlier this year and discovered I have mild…

My thoughts exactly Sue! I was a little intimidated at first, but it went away quickly. Now I see the exact same guys there every week and I'm not nearly as self conscious. Still don't see any women doing anything with the squat rack, but there are a few working on the machines. Congrats to all the folks getting started.…

Ugh - ever have a lifting day when you felt you didn't work hard enough? That was today. I started A7 where it's just 8 reps. I was not sweating enough in my opinion. But I could NOT add any more weight to my squats. I did 70lbs and was thinking about reducing because I'm not 100% sure of my form now. Seated rows are…

From everything I've read, strength training burns fat. Cardio is for heart/llung conditioning and endurance. Granted, my entire life, I was taught to do cardio cardio cardio and I never felt I was doing any sort of real exercise unless my herat rate was sky high and I was sweating buckets. This program and my new way of…

A line?"!?!? What the--??? Crazy. Btw, I'm 5'2" and I do step ups on the weight bench. They are tough, but I'd rather do them over lunges. I hate lunges.

LMAO. I forgot about that one!!

AHA - it's about a guy! :-P

I arrive at the gym about 20 minutes after I wake up. So it's NOT a pretty sight. But I'm not there to be pretty. In fact, the more folks DON'T look at me, the better. However, I think I get what you really mean. I'm sure half the folks there would not even recognize me when I get all prettied up. What can I say? I clean…

The squat rack is intimidating! Or at least it was. I actually had to google "squat rack" before I started so I knew what to look for at the gym. Don't laugh! But I'm totally cool with it now (just finished stage 1 WO B6). I did have trouble removing the pins -- you have to adjust them to your height. Today I used a small…

CanGirl - I love that the workouts are short. I hate being at the gym for hours. The only extra thing I have done (which I did today) was some HIIT -- just 15 minutes on the treadmill. The weight bench is great for step ups; you'll get a serious workout! I used regular steps the first day, then read about using a weight…

FunBun - what's a plyo table? It's sounds HIGH. I can't imagine stepping any higher. I'm 5'2" and the weight bench is hard enough. So where/how do you hold the barbell -- on your back? I have to concentrate so hard to not wobble on my stepups; I just can't imagine using a barbell. Weird workout today. I upped my weights…

I just re-read this last night and I am pretty sure it's intended to be an extra workout -- so I would not combine it with the last workout. It's labeled Workouts 9A and 9B.

LMAO Beeps! You're cracking me up. I'm scared, but I will definitely try my step-ups that way. EEK

OK I just tried to catch up and all I remember reading about is donuts and chocolate chip pancakes. Yes that is where my mind is today. I'm always so hungry the day after lifting. But I'm also feeling emotional and munchy. Not good. I'm still within my cals for today, so let me chug some more water before I make a choice I…

I never had one, but if this is your first child, I'm gonna guess you are new to the wonderful, overwhelming world of strollers. You CANNOT use any old stroller to jog. You HAVE to use a jogging stroller. You should be able to get one within your price range. Good luck!

I took a nap today for 45 minutes. It was lovely. I still consider myself new to motherhood and familyhood and I MISS MY SLEEP. Last year I did not sleep well at all (I think my weight contributed to it). My system was all out of whack. I was diagnosed with mild sleep apnea early this year -- again, I think mainly due to…

I had to drag myself out of bed today as well. For some reason on the nights I have to get to bed early, my husband stays up late, tosses and turns, gets up in the middle of the night to pee, etc. AND last night my daughter came wandering into our room at like 3am. So I did my workout, but I'm dog tired right now due to…

Sounds like you are doing the right thing. Those calories for non-exercise days sound a tad low for someone your age and height. Try adjusting up 100-200 cals? More importantly, what is your body fat %? At 5'7, 32 year old female, 133 pounds -- you are probably at or around your ideal weight. Maybe focus on body fat %…

When I lose weight, my pants get loose. My pet peeve too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Possibly the best recipe ever posted. Thank you. Loves me some Pad Thai!!

livlovra - wow, I'm impressed!! You have come a long way. How far along are you in Stage 1? You ramped up pretty quickly it seems. That's awesome. kim - congrats on finishing stage 1! Woo hoo!! Your numbers are impressive. You started off way higher than I did on some things. Example: I'm just NOW doing 20lb shoulder…

Blushingmama - I did not experience headaches from doing New Rules. I think you're right: it might have more to do with nutrition. It has happened to me before when I changed my diet (e.g., cutting out sugar for a month, I got serious headaches initially). You may have to play around with your macros. But if it persists,…

yup - alternate Stage 1 Week 1: A, B, A Week 2: B, A, B Week 3: A, B, A etc. Assuming you go three times/week (adjust accordingly if not). I really think they should have just numbered the Stage 1 workouts 1 - 16. I had to read it over and over and over before I started.

Somehow I lost this thread. But just wanted to say "yay" for all the Stage 1-ers. And guess who is loving deadlifts now? Yup, that'd be me. I'm up to 65lbs! My knee pain comes and goes -- mainly when doing squats. Doc says its just inflammed and to take Alleve and rest it. I TRY. :) I'm getting addicted to lifting! But I…

Congrats on finishing your first workout!!! That's about how long it takes (ie, they are fast at least initially). Did you do a warmup? I usually warmup on the elliptical for 10 min, so my total workout time with stretching is usually 45 min. The prone jackknives are my nemesis!! They are still hard for me and I'll be…

Haven't read all the replies, but you need to do what works for you. It may involve some trial and error. I needed to lose about the same when I started MFP and first just started walking, then jogging, with some swimming and tennis here and there. Last month I decided to start serious strength training. I have always been…

Thanks Megan. I have weird strength for certain exercises. It's so random! I will have to look up the cable twist. I admit, that I often look ahead trying to plan out Stage 2 and familiarize myself with the moves, but I'm too lazy to add anything else. lhergenr - I started 3 sets last week. It just adds on about 10 minutes…

Deadlifting and squatting 115? Your rock Holley! I wanna be just like you when I grow up. :) I DL'd 65 today and felt special. I know I can lift more though; I am being a bit tentative because of my knee. Overall I really challenged myself today and was nice and sweaty by the end of my workout. DL: 65 Should Press: 20 (!…

Good morning all. Hope you had a great weekend. I checked out New Rules for Abs over the weekend at the bookstore. That is definitely going to be my next thing! But since I started NROLFW, I'm going to finish it. I'm in week 4 of stage 1. Still loving it. I did 20 lb (each) shoulder presses this morning and felt like…
