I'm doing New Rules and I love it. Never thought I would. I'm only 4 weeks in and can see noticeable results. And Im getting stronger each week. Try it! :)

You lost me at candy corn...mmm. Kidding. Congrats!

I'm 41 and this is my last time too! I have done every diet known to man. They work, but I always gain the pounds back and then some. This time, I'm just trying to eat better and exercise. Last year, I almost threw in the towel because I felt that because I was 40, my hormones had changed, and that it was impossible to…

Hi Ladies. :) I started the 3-set phase of Stage 1 today. Wasn't really sweating after my squats (I can't go over 65 lbs at the moment due to my knee). Did my seated rows and pushups --- and did that "one hand up on the air" kind of pushup for the 2nd set. I am really good at pushups -- don't ask me why. I felt kind of…

Wow Sam, that is AMAZING! Thanks for sharing and congrats!

For HIIT, I do two minutes walking, one minute running on the treadmill. I usually go between 7 and 7.5 mph.

The book recommends a week off between stages. I know many people skip it, but I am not. I think our bodies do amazing things during recovery. Have fun!

O. M. G. Wow.

Mine came out pretty good. Yes, they are a little spongey. If you want a more traditional texture, then add flour or oats. But I don't mind it and they "look" very pretty. Mine came out to 102 cals/muffin using olive oil (1tsp), a whole egg, and pumpkin pie mix (vs. pure pumpkin). calories: 102 carbs: 10 fat: 3 protein: 8…

I am trying this now! 4 muffins are in the oven. I used 1 tsp. olive oil (all I had) and Target vanilla whey protein powder. I also used 1 tsp of agave. I hope these turn out nicely... I will keep you posted!

I love spinning, but don't do it nearly as often as I used to years ago. I am biased because the first class I took I had an awesome instructor with the best music EVER; no instructor has lived up to it since. That's how I fell in love with it. Your butt will get used to it and you'll get better each time. Just remember to…

Before starting MFP, I had a routine of going to the Barnes and Noble cafe and getting coffee and a pastry -- in particular the Resee's peanut butter cup cookie. It's about 6 inches wide and 1/2 inch thick. And yes, it's divine. But it has over 600 calories!! I was in shock. Needless to say, I still go get my coffee, but…

Hi. I'm 41 and halfway through Stage 1 -- I start A5 on Friday. I usually read the daily chat thread too. I will follow both. :) I have lost 4 lbs since starting. I don't know if it's a fluke or (wishful thinking) a steady pattern, but I'll take it. I'm eating at a deficit, but not a huge one. And I eat back my calories on…

Congrats!! Those are great results and a real measurable improvement. That's amazing just a few pounds, but LOTS of inches. Really goes to show you that muscle takes up less space than fat. You must feel great. Are you psyched for Stage 2/a change in pace? Are you taking a full week off? Are you doing AMRAPS? :)

I would do the elliptical. It is easy to me and doesn't feel hard on my legs. I would put it on a low resistance setting to "save" my legs, but it'll also allow you to get the kinks out. Whether I'm jogging or all out running, it's always harder on my legs/joints, so I'd be trying to save myself for Sunday.

OK, I guess I will probably feel the same when I come to the end of stage 1. Officially halfway there as of today's workout. Next, I start 3 sets. I'm excited for that. I know I am stronger too -- just from a few week of this program. And I caught a glimpse of myself sideways in the mirror today and was shocked -- I looked…

Good morning! I just finished Stage 1 WOB4 -- next up: 3 sets! I had a great workout. I pushed myself a little more than I normally do with the weights and I have the sweat to prove it. I also decided to do HIIT for 15 min on the treadmill after. Crazy, but I feel GREAT. I don't know if I could weigh myself every day. I…

Why are folks skipping the AMRAPs? I'm curious to see how much I can do. Aren't you curious??? :) I already can tell I'm stronger. When I take my daughter to the park, I always try to just hang on the monkey bars. Used to kill my shoulders. Now I can swing and swing by my arms. Can't quite yet go from bar to bar, but there…

Same here. I'm doing way less cardio than I did in my 20s and 30s and still seeing great results on the scale. That's good because I cannot realistically sustain 5 days of cardio. Just not realistic for me.

Elissalove - sounds like we are in the same boat as far as calories. Monday is my weigh-in and I will decide then about staying at 1550 on workout days; and 1750 on lift days. I've pretty much been sated doing it this way, but we'll see how this holds up when 3 sets start this week - EEK. And I'm right there with you on…

Good morning all. I'm going to try and join in more here. Just completed a rather lame stage 1 b4 workout today. I was soooo tired and didn't want to get up. I didn't up my weights on 2 of the exercises and I had to take it easy on my lunges due to my injured knee. So I had a few beads of sweat but I know I didn't…

I'm eating 1550 because that's what I figured I could eat to lose weight through MFP. But with the weight training, it's adding a new twist. I know I need more calories, but my brain can't compute and also I'm scared to gain weight. I still have 35 lbs to lose. My TDEE is 1800 sedentary. On non-lifting days I'm sticking…

UGH - my computer is being wacky.

I can't keep up with these posts! I finished 5A yesterday and my knee was killing me during squats and stepups, so I'm going to the doc today. I hate getting old. I am pretty sure my form is fine. I have done tons of squats over the years, had trainers, etc. I just did something to my dang knee and am hoping I don't have…

^^ So true. I pretty much make my daughter and stepson take at least 3 bites. Half the time, they like it; the other half I get the "fake gagging" (LOL). I refuse to make 2 meals though, so they eat what I prepare or miss a meal. Btw, they have never NOT eaten anything. The more they see me and my husband eating healthy…

Wow - you look great. Congrats on your success. I needed this inspiration because I have gone from fit to fat to fit and then fat again. Anyway, I'm back on the path to fit -- for good.Thank God for muscle memory!

LOL. Sorry, that was funny. I can't imagine random people just emailing me about my diary -- that almost tempts me to make it public!! Mine is set to friends only. ETA: How dare you eat a cookie! For shame!!!!!

Feel free to add me! I'm totally committed and I log religiously. I'm a bit obsessed with logging. :)

The deadlifts are intimidating, but I do them. I have not seen anyone else at my gym do them. My gym has a lot of space for lifting, so finding a spot is not a problem. I did not know about raising the bar to calf level. I will try that tomorrow. Thank you!

I alternate, although today doing the wide lat pull down I forgot and did two in a row so I did (should press, pull down, pull down, shoulder press). For the seated row, I did it on the cable machine and then just did push ups right where I was. I don't care! :) There's an area where people do sits ups and push ups and…
