Few things... It's not all simple as calories in/ calories out. At some point, your body needs to protect itself and store energy just in case it needs it (like if you have to run away from a chasing bear). Therefore, if you're taking in minimal calories, your body is gonna hold on to each and every last one of them for…

One week does not a plateau make. Keep at what you're doing.

YES to people's suggestions to look up "In Place of a Road Map". Dan knows his stuff. I was eating about 1300-1400 calories a day (lower than my BMR) and still exercising like a nutjob. I've probably slowed my metabolism down to snail's pace because of this mistake. I've upped my calories over the past few weeks, and am…

There's only enough room in this relationship for one of us to take "selfies" pictures.

Hahahahahahaha. Touche.

I've been with a trainer for a year and have dropped 85 pounds, several pant sizes, and have gained a decent amount of muscle. I am positive I wouldn't have been able to progress this far so quickly without his assistance. Like you said, though, it's all about finding a good one! I live in MA, too... but up on the…

Thanks! I hired a personal trainer to help out with the strength training because I was a lost soul regarding anything to do with lifting heavy things up and putting them back down. I'm at the gym 5-6 days a week... two of those days being mainly strength training (which is why my arms look pretty toned). The other days…

Hi! First off, congrats on starting your weight loss journey. Unfortunately, it's hard to tell what kind of inch loss to expect because everyone is so different. So I'll just tell you my experience and maybe that might help a little. I'm 5'2, and when I started I weighed 227. At the beginning, I did not rely on inches…

Hahahaha! Dig the honesty.

You probably shouldn't ever wear a shirt again. Jussayin'.....

That can't be right. I am 62 inches tall, weigh 145, and my body fat percentage was at 28% in October. My trainer calculates my percentage using some fancy ultrasound thing, so it isn't an online calculator. Essential fat percentage for women is 11%. Lower than that and you start messing up your menstrual cycle... So being…

I hear they are good on the grill.

Hi there and congrats on beginning your journey! I'm 5'2 and started this whole process in February 2011 at 227 pounds. Through the help of joining a super supportive gym, hiring a personal trainer, and totally revamping my eating habits, I've dropped 84 pounds and currently weigh 143. I have an ultimate goal weight of…

Hi there, I think you're correct. When I started, I weighed 227 (ughhh)... and ate at 1200 (but often ate most of my exercise calories back), and I lost the majority of my weight that way. Currently, I'm 145, with a goal weight range of 125-130. Based on that "Roadmap" post that everyone talks about on these boards, I've…

Same thing just happened to me when I hit 150... I was stuck between 150 and 153 for a good month and a half. This is going to sound VERY crazy... but trust me on this... you need to up your caloric intake. I was on 1200 calories forever too (I started this journey at 227lbs and am currently 147)... and my personal trainer…

I'll be logging because I think it's best to go into the day with a plan, and not consider it a food free-for-all. I'm running a 5K in the morning, but I'm not letting that give me freedom to eat everything and anything. I plan on loading the plate up with turkey and veggies. I will skip the mashed potatoes and go for…

My new thing is fat-free cottage cheese with sliced strawberries. You can have 1/2 cup of cottage cheese and the strawberries for about 120 calories. Pretty filling. I used to be (still am) obsessed with luna bars and cliff bars, but trying to cut back because they are high in sugar. The PowerCrunch bars are delicious (200…

The FAQ's on the color run website said it's helpful if you put coconut oil or leave-in conditioner in your hair before the race... helps it all wash out easier. We used the leave-in conditioner, and I didn't have any issues getting it all out with some scrubbing (the tough part is getting out any color from your scalp).…

I did the Boston one on July 28th... it was my first 5K race. The running experience was enjoyable, and it was AWESOME to see people of all shapes and sizes... there wasn't any feeling overwhelmed by being surrounded by super fit people. My group ran the whole way, but there were a lot of people walking it, too. There was…

Don't weigh yourself daily. It fluctuates for so many different reasons. My husband ended up hiding the scale on me for a long while because I was getting so frustrated with the number flip flopping around. If clothes are fitting better, go by that. Also remember that muscle weighs more than fat... so if you're building…

Reading Fast Food Nation. I will never eat fast food again.

WOW! A loss of 148 is huge!! Congratulations on that!

Wow! Thank you to everyone for your responses! I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only one who has or has had concerns about this. I was starting to think I was being very selfish, and now I'm learning that I'm just acting normal. :) It's good to hear that so many of you have been able to stay active throughout the majority…

I'm 5'2. I've lost 60 pounds over 6 months, and looking to lose about 30 more for a goal weight about 130. One of the main reasons I've been able to lose so much so quickly is because I have a personal trainer who holds me completely accountable each week, which has definitely helped. Left to my own devices, I'd be…

Good job! I did C25K as well... could barely handle running a minute at the beginning, but can now pretty easily run 5 miles without thinking about it. I did my first 5K race this past weekend, and am now looking to run more of those along with training for a 10K. And awesome for you for a half marathon!

I'm at the gym every day, anywhere from 45 minutes to two hours at a time. I do a lot of cardio in various forms... whether it be on the elliptical, running, or taking group classes (like spinning). I see my personal trainer twice a week on top of this for half hour sessions. He focuses on a lot of the strength training…
