I dig out my Babylon 5 DVDs and watch them. Contemplating the destruction of the galaxy makes my own little issues pale in comparison.

I find it hard to eat until I've been awake and active for an hour or so. Usually my "breakfast" consists of coffee. I'm going to try hitting the treadmill for 10 minutes or so first thing, and see if that wakes me up enough to where I can deal with food.

I turned 50 in March, and weighed about 185. Hit the 200 mark in June, and knew I had to do something. I was 198 when I started at MFP 3 weeks ago. You *can* do this!
-
Glad you're getting back on track! That's the important thing when Life throws us curves. You *CAN* do this!
-
*grin* I hear that a LOT from people - but I like the taste of it.
-
I don't schedule cheat days because I'm having enough trouble staying on track as it is.

I loved Asprin's Myth series, as well as his Phule series. I've got the first two of the Myth series with the Kelly Freas cover art. Foglio's art isn't bad, but Freas captured more of how I view Skeeve.

Kudos on giving up the soda! I did that too. Read the labels on the juice before you buy. A lot of them are absolute junk. Get the kids to help with the meal preparation. I found that got mine to try things because "they made it".

Go Bill! That's great to hear - and great motivation!

I put on most of my weight when I stopped smoking, FWIW. Grats to him for breaking the nicotine chain!

I got drummed out of the SCA for writing a scurrilous ballad about the king. I've long-since moved to Florida and wouldn't mind hooking up with the local SCAdians here, assuming they're willing to forgive previous actions.

Welcome back!

Agree with what others have said about coaxing him into joining MFP. Once he starts logging everything he eats, it will be a huge wake-up call for him. But HE has got to be the one to do it. DO NOT LOG HIS MEALS AND EXERCISE FOR HIM. As a very wise poster above me said, if it's your idea, you'll be nagging him.

I'm 50, and 5' tall. That is not a typo. My weight is in my ticker, and as you can see, I've got a long ways to go. Welcome! Friend me, and I'll cheer you on.

I play Alliance on Medivh. My guild is IXOYE, which, of course, is the best guild on the server. Due to real life constraints, haven't been on in a while and I'm missing it.

*points to ticker* That's my long-term weight loss goal.

If you hate exercise (like me), you'll find it much harder to do. Also, trying to do too much too fast will make you crazy. If you're generally sedentary, start with walking. Walk for 15-20 minutes and don't worry about how far you walked. Do that three times a week.for a couple of months. Then start trying to walk faster.…
-
Oh no you don't! *grabs and yanks back on track* You CAN do this! Add me as a friend and I'll cheer you on. Start logging food and exercise - it DOES help!
-
If you're not logging everything because you're afraid of what you'll see, I suggest thinking of it this way: it'll be a wake-up call for you. Set aside fifteen minutes in the morning to log everything from the day before. And be completely honest; this won't work if you lie to yourself. As you start logging, it becomes…

SW: 192 CW: 191 GW: 185 Weigh in Dates: 8/1 191 as of this morning. 8/8 8/15 8/22 8/31 I will do my celebrating after I drop below 180.

I'm also looking for friends here and for motivation. I'll be glad to cheer y'all on.
-
I'll help motivate you if you help motivate me! I've just started here, and will happily take all the help I can get.

Most of my bills are paid electronically, and my paycheck is direct deposit. I check the balance on my accounts every day - it may be anal, but I'd rather be able to jump on a problem sooner rather than later. I write 3 or 4 checks a month, and usually only keep five or ten bucks in cash on me. ETA: Everything else is done…

*chortle* I took a Spyder out for a test ride once - didn't like the way they handle.

Harley Davidson! This is me and my wife on my new Christmas present: http://doomspark.net/images/trike.jpg

FWIW - I'm a shade over 5' tall. My wife is 6' tall (that is not a typo). I don't tell her to wear heels or not to wear heels; that's up to her.

Oh that's excellent news! Two of my three miscreants are in my profile picture. I second the suggestion to get kitty checked out by the vet. Also *highly* recommend a microchip if not already done.

My novel, Daemon's Door, is available from Amazon in both traditional and Kindle format. It's epic fantasy with a couple of twists. Romance, redemption, revenge, dragons, a daemon, and a Door.

Family apocrypha says that I wrote my first story at age four, although no copies of that work survived to present day. I have one published novel, and am working on a sequel.
