  • My most used tools in my house are my measuring spoons, measuring cups and digital scales. My husband and I play games while cooking to see who gets closer to the actual weight of things... I'm pretty good most times but I have to say it isn't easy.
  • bump ... because I totally need a reason not to give up cheat days
  • :( I am honestly so confused... I feel like losing weight and becoming lean is such a science that I do not understand! In summary: I need to take the step test.. then adjust my polarf4t to the results of the step test and then my calories burnt will be more accurate?
  • I had up to 30 or more friends at one point and I found that I just didn't mesh with some of them. We never communicate so I deleted a lot of them. I have a few really great go to people on here that I know I can just post on their wall when I am struggling. I have a few people that just being able to see them stay under…
  • I TRY to log before hand. I find that it gives me an idea of what I am "allowed" to eat for each meal. If I log afterwards, I just find that I over eat and them as I am logging it in I'm like "DAMMIT I SUCK WHY DID I EAT ALL THAT"
  • Check out my diary for this past weekend.... I literally was posting about my issues with binging (that's what I consider these cheat days for myself). I think I have to just stop it. I mean eating junk isn't horrible, but eating a lot of junk is what gets me. I ate EIGHT cookies last night... 8 GOSH DAMN COOKIES!! Who…
  • I'm sorry but I don't think it is fair to say someone is lazy because they only work out 30 min a day. I don't know your friends, but I can speak for myself and working out for hours on end a day just isn't possible. It isn't maintainable in the long run for me.
  • The reason why I always believed slow and steady won the race was because I thought that those who went fast and aggressive usually (not always) lost their weight by eating extremely low calories. From my understanding (I'm no doctor over here), low calorie intake is bad for your insides and slows down your metabolism.…
  • For both of you, I would recommend not looking at this as a race. Loosing weight fast might look good short term, but it can be pretty hard for most people to maintain. Not only that, but a lot of the time, you can cause damage to your insides by doing it the wrong way. I would just keep being steady and consistant. I have…
  • Personally, as long as I am over 1200 (usually aim for 1300 to 1600 a day), I just let it be. If I am under that, I will grab a tall glass of milk or something to get me to where I need to be.
  • LOLOLOL But damn I feel jipped too! Meh whatever, I probably would have spent that extra 50 bucks on sushi or something

  • I was always of the belief that I'd rather enjoy my life than be thin and miserable. With that said, if I know that I am going out, I will hit the elliptical for more than the normal time or do an extra long video at home. I have a HRM so as I work out, I look down and think to myself "Oh yah baby! Just earned myself…
  • I LOOOOVE my polar!!! Got it on amazon for around 100 bucks. Best fitness investment I have ever made!

  • I do my kettlebell exercises at home by following fitnessblender. You can do a search on their website that allows you to pick the kind of equipment you are using. They have tons!
  • I would just make sure that the stats you have on your HRM are accurate (age, sex, weight). I usually log my calories burnt just as my HRM says (I have the same one).

  • I only log when I drop because I usually chalk any gain to doms or TOM.

  • I agree with the PP that mentioned taking all the "crap" our of your house. I really make a conscience effort to limit the amount of temptation in the house. And on those days that I feel I REEEEAAALLLYY feel the need to indulge, I do so, but then I work out a half hour longer or eat less of something else. Like others…
  • A 1lb loss a week is completely healthy. From my understanding, when you drop more, a lot of the time it is water weight or muscle loss (I am not a dr or nutritionist so this is just from what I have researched). I would just keep consistant with your exercising and eating healthy and you will see a loss next week.

  • I can only speak for myself, but before I became active, I was eating mostly crap (I still do on occasion). I would stuff my face with anything that "tasted good" and that resulted in me feeling sluggish. And when I finally decided to try and work out (in the privacy of my own home) I literally sobbed because of the…
  • I have lost 64 lbs without a gym membership.... so it is possible!!! I went online to kijiji and bought a used elliptical for 20 bucks and use that regularily. I also have done the 30 day shred a couple times. My go to website right now is fitnessblender.com. I really LOVE the workouts because I find that the two trainers…
  • Wow, that is really true eh. And honestly it doesn't usually bother me that much, because in my mind, I know it is what is right for me. Sometimes I guess I just want to vocalize my thoughts and not feel alone in this whole thing. Thanks everyone for your thoughts!
  • I'm in the same boat. I noticed myself falling within the SAD category a few years ago. Last year was my first year working out and eating healthy and it made a HUGE difference. I still feel down and out, but the endorphins do help. I am really considering getting a lamp, but I have to admit that I am really skeptical!!!!
  • You are one of my daily inspirations!!! Congrats! You look awesome!!!
  • I'm currently trying to do this. I was eating around 1200 calories during the week and then binge eating at like 2000 or more on weekends. I used this calculator to help me determine where I should be eating based on my activity and workouts.…
  • I'm a lover of hiit and usually enjoy the tabata style workouts. I usually stick to videos one fitnessblender.com
  • The first time I did the 30 day shred I cried. Not like "ouch I stubbed my foot" cry.... more like I am a pathetic loser who is too fat to accomplish anything type of cry. But I kept at it day after day. Eventually it got easier. That was probably about 30 lbs ago.( I haven't done it again just because I have found other…
  • I figured instead of starting a new thread, I would ask my question here regarding IIFYM (since it is a pretty active thread so far). When reading about this way of living, I notice that most people have a very strict workout regiment. For me, I just haven't been able to make that possible. Certain weeks I work out 6 times…
  • Fitness blender and fitsugar have some great workouts under 30 min
  • The "$100 wrist watch" will greatly change the way you work out. I used to log what my elliptical or mfp said for my calories burnt and it was a WAAAAAAY over estimate (almost double). I have found a couple accurate burns on MFP but most of them are way over or way under.
