NOWHERE IN MY POST DID I EVER SUGGEST ANYONE EAT BELOW 1200 CALORIES!!! Did you even read it??? I HIGHLY doubt it. I have also said in MULTIPLE replies that I was going to try and eat 1200 to 1450 calories a day. Please read. I have NO idea where you are getting your information.

Tried that. Obviously it didn't work.
-
Yes, of course. But that does not justify a good enough reason to NOT share my experience. I'm sorry, but I must of missed the forum rule that said, "Unless your post applies to everyone, don't post it. "

No, I've only been in a deficit for the past 2 weeks or so. I do strength training, I don't know what you would consider heavy, but I do push myself to the point that I feel like my muscles are rubber. Props on dealing with Narcolepsy without medication!! That is definitely an accomplishment. In my situation though I…

Because there ARE those people out there with similar situations like mine. Sharing my experience is meant to help them, not hurt them. If you feel as if you need to drop your calories to 1000 calories a day after reading this it's NOT because of this thread, it's because you have a borderline eating disorder.
-
I totally agree! I feel as if I now have a better 'feel' of things ;)
-
Agreed. :) But I don't need 1700 calories of energy (which I have been eating faithfully now for about 2 months and have gotten nowhere).
-
This completely depends on the person. I now believe that simple overestimations such as these are a huge part of why losing weight is difficult for so many people.
-
That's why they tested me right when I woke up and again right before I went to sleep again, after walking on the treadmill. They did this several times to get an average in an attempt to rule out any extremes.

Being that I sit on my butt all day (and probably take about 100 steps TOPS a day) it does turn out to be a pretty big deal. I agree, anywhere between 1200-1300 sounds good :)
-
That's an AWESOME goal! For me though I LITERALLY sit on my butt all day long. I feel as if there should be a setting to calibrate how many children you have into the weight-loss equation. Sometimes just watching them run around burns a gazillion calories ;) :)
-
Hence that is why MFP takes your BMR and multiplies it by 1.2 for sedentary :)
-
Oh I ABSOLUTELY AGREE!! :) :) But with my BMR being so low, it's very easy to overestimate my needs.
-
Yes, I get up take a shower, go to the store, but being a student I mainly sit on my butt all day and read. I can't imagine that little of activity makes a huge impact, which gives me even more of a reason to work out more. :) :)
-
THANK YOU! I will get on it ASAP!
-
Agreed. In retrospect I have no idea why I was so shocked. It's probably from being on these forums so much (and MFP in general) and you hear so many people saying, "you're not eating enough" so perhaps I gained a false sense of what my calorie needs ACTUALLY were.

No, narcolepsy does not go away. In fact, it's degenerative. The studies are paid for COMPLETELY by the insurance company. They are a very 'hoity toity' company and I feel like they're just itching to find a loophole to get out paying for my meds. Hence that is why I call them 'trolls.' :) :)
-
No, I believe it's BMR multiplied by 1.2 (for sedentary). Which to me makes it even more reasonable.
-
Yup. I'm expecting this. Here are my predictions: 1. The tests where in accurate (even though they were take multiple times in a university hospital). 2. I am a freak of nature (yes I have narcolepsy, but I was told, MORE THAN ONCE, that my BMR is what was expected). 3. "Me, my mom, dad, brother, sister's boyfriend, and…

BMR is the amount of calories I would need to survive while in a coma.
-
THANK YOU! Where do I get it?
-
How much do you weigh? If you don't mind me asking...
-
No. I will be eating 1200 net calories a day while being sure I get in some exercise everyday.

Lol I would love to! However, first I would like to respectfully disagree with a statement you made on this forum: I'm not suggesting that Lyle McDonald is right (that's an entirely different subject), but your reasoning for why he's wrong is horribly flawed. From what I understand (and correct me if I'm wrong), your…

If you don't wear designer jeans (or whatever context is meant by it) then you don't really qualify as being a "highly educated yuppie", you're just highly educated. In no way am I defending the 'primal/paleo' way of eating. I was just simply making an observation. I think you missed the point of this, not to be…

Alright, I'm gonna bust out the cheesy up-in-herr: "It's the journey, not the destination." I have never come across a person whose actually hit that 'last 5' marker. It seems as if once we reach our goals we set even higher goals on top of them and sometimes they're barely attainable if at all (but never let yourself…

I can COMPLETELY understand why it all sounds so confusing love, but how about this: Why don't you try eating 1240 NET calories a day (Net meaning that if you don't exercise that day you can't go over that number) for about 2 weeks - if you lose weight and feel comfortable on that intake then you know it's right for you.…

You can always modify Insanity, love. What you DON'T want to do is put the program on a 'pedestal' and question your ability to complete it. I'm sorry if it sounds a bit 'cheesy' to you but, "Whether you think you can, or you think you can't - either way you're right." - Henry Ford
