Is your profile pic recent? You don't look like you have that much to lose...maybe instead of working on weight loss so much, focus more on toning/strength training to trim up... I would agree with what everyone is saying about 600 being far too few calories, but it may be a one off kind of day. I've had days when I'm sick…

First thing I can say is it's better late than never-you have taken an important first step by deciding to be better to yourself! That being said-be careful not to go to the opposite extreme of cutting everything out and going on a crash diet...(you didn't give details of what you plan to do diet/calorie wise, etc so I'm…

Don't feel that way but many do...some of it has to do with how you grew up as well...I was exposed to a lot of fruits and veggies growing up-those were our treats. We used to fight about why had to share artichokes...we looked forward to fresh peaches all year. I crave Brussels sprouts. SO no...I guess I don't feel the…

Yeah-we have a vacation planned in May...I usually go to the gym they have at the resort, but given that it's in coastal Mexico, it's extremely humid and hot. I'm going to see if I couldn't run around the resort instead of going to the gym (I have treadmills)...maybe if I got up early-I mean the whole place is well lit and…

Should I do the riverfront trail for my run tomorrow or the lake trail? Or take Montgomery again-nah, hills are too steep...if there's ice I'm going to fall on my butt. Treadmill? Nah-treadmill sucks. I should wear long underwear under my running clothes tomorrow-it's going to be effing cold. Crap. I want to run but it's…

I gotta agree with him about the running. I'm running tomorrow and it's supposed to be miserably cold (low teens at best)...I hate treadmills. But I guess they're a necessary evil. :(

Welcome to MFP! Best of luck to you-I'm Maureen and I'm 30 years old (from the States). There are a lot of helpful and supportive people on this site. What are your fitness/nutrition goals?
-
Go you! That's in the non diabetic range! Such an awesome feeling! It makes you feel like you have a say in the progression of the disease...encouraging for sure.

I am just so happy. I was struggling a lot with swings (highs and lows) when I ramped up my running...so I'm glad it hasn't affected my average negatively. I also got a new doc who is really supportive of my fitness/workout efforts and is very involved in my training plan. It's such a relief to know it's working!

I usually avoid supplements anyway. I prefer to get nutrition though food. I've taken 5 hour energy once before (mostly to stay awake for the midnight showing of the Hobbit)...it worked as far as keeping me awake but I didn't get any of the side effects you're talking about. Do you ever try food/beverage instead of a…

Quinoa (for breakfast or for main dish)...Quinoa is really versatile You could also do a nice lentil soup with veggies and hot broth...mmmm. This is making me hungry.

Pants that I bought this past Fall are too big for me.

Carbs come from a lot of sources other than grains... Starchy veggies (corn, peas, potatoes, sweet potatoes, yams, winter squash, etc) Fruit and fruit juice Sweets (obviously not the healthiest way to get your carbs) Dairy (milk and yogurt) Grains as you have already mentioned. Doesn't have to be pasta, rice, couscous, etc.

I remember I got into Pilates and Pole dance when the weather got colder. I still went to the gym to use the elliptical and stair machine...I definitely prefer running to all of these things but when there's ice on the sidewalks/trails/roads, it's just not safe.
-
This made me chuckle as well...and I think I need to add that song to my running playlist now. And thanks! I am very intimidated by it but also really excited...I want to push myself...to be able to say I did it. I've also had type I diabetes for 15 years now so...that adds an interesting challenge.

Agave...better yet acquire a taste for coffee without the sweetener. I use Splenda sometimes...but if I have half and half-I just use that. Yum!
-
Well I have 1-2 half marathons planned. This full isn't until October so I have time. I've already started on my training plan :)
-
Awesomesauce.

Well depending on the gym, there could be a circuit (PF has a couple-abs and general)...and there are people there for weight lifting who jump into the circuit to use some machine that they want-ignoring those who are there to do the full circuit. It's a little annoying.
-
Yeah...treadmill (aka: dreadmill) running is so totally different from running outside. The belt is kind of helping you do the work...I much prefer running outside...plus the scenery changes :) I've been forced into doing some treadmill running lately because the ice makes it too hazardous to run outside. I'm planning to…

Baltimore/DC Metro area. Freezing (literally...it's 32 degrees) and windy. Tomorrow it's a high of 22 degrees...will be about 11-low teens when I run in the morning. BRRR!
-
I may end up doing this for my marathon training as well. This week didn't turn out so well for many reasons (not the least of which is all the ice on the sidewalks and trails)...if you have time, work at your own pace. A training program is not the be all and end all...and if your body is feeling stressed, it's better to…

I ran the other day when we got our first real snow of the season. Added an interesting challenge to my run because the snow was almost like sand texture wise so I was a lot more winded... I wouldn't mind snow so much-it's pretty, makes my workout harder...but the ice...that's not fun OR safe.

I can be super hungry after exercise depending on what I do. After a long run a lot of times I'm the opposite of hungry but I still force myself to get a little something to recover (half a larbar, peanut butter and half a banana, etc). After Pilates, pole and other strength training, I'm usually STARVING

Yeah-I've been using a Hal Higdon training plan and building my mileage up gradually. Good news is I have a while before the event so I can take my time. I'm using his novice 1 program and it's been good so far. Biggest issue is the stupid weather. It leaves me with either trying to run outside when there is ice all over…

I did see a HUGE difference both in weight and in tone when I started to incorporate more strength training and get off the elliptical. I started doing Pilates and some more weights...I'm not a fan of lifting because it bores the hell out of me, so I do strength training through other means (Pilates and Pole dance). Both…

^This. Training for a full marathon right now. Most Marathon runners do strength training/toning as well-a stronger body is a faster body. Just because they don't have large and extremely defined muscles doesn't mean they're skeletons-the people in this picture are in phenomenal shape! Sweeping generalizations are neither…

LoL-oh now I'm REALLY excited! J/K I've heard the same from others who have done full marathons. My older sister did the Boston and said she was in hell for the last few miles. I just want to prove to myself that I can do it (despite having type I diabetes). I have a couple half marathons planned between then and now :)
